I watched THE HUNGER GAMES (2012) for the FIRST TIME ever! I loved the movie and Im excited to jump into the rest of the franchise with you all‼️
Come and join me for the rest of the journey!
-------------------------------------
Movie Summary:
In a dystopian future, the totalitarian nation of Panem is divided into 12 districts and the Capitol. Each year two young representatives from each district are selected by lottery to participate in The Hunger Games. Part entertainment, part brutal retribution for a past rebellion, the televised games are broadcast throughout Panem. The 24 participants are forced to eliminate their competitors while the citizens of Panem are required to watch. When 16-year-old Katniss' young sister, Prim, is selected as District 12's female representative, Katniss volunteers to take her place. She and her male counterpart, Peeta, are pitted against bigger, stronger representatives, some of whom have trained for this their whole lives.

Katniss was in a unique situation- her mother had a breakdown when the dad died, and Katniss became “Mom” to her younger sister. That’s why she volunteered when no one else had.

Especially since district 12, in it's 73 years of running "The Hunger Games" only 2 victors have won the game. In the 10th year (The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes) and Haymitch in the 50th. And both of those have been luck not skill (per se). Anyway what I was trying to say with that is in 12, tribute is basically implied with death. Do for someone to volunteer as tribute is them basically volunteering to die. Which is why they gave Katniss the 3 finger salute out of respect.

The books were written to teach middle school students about politics and war in school. It was not anticipated that they would be turned into block buster movies. Scholastic Press is the publisher. You should definitely give these books a chance. You get to learn everything going on in Katniss' head and see everything from her perspective. They're not super long and, since they're written for young teens, the writing style makes for a quick read. I blew through all three in a couple days, though I'm admittedly a fast reader. So I’m the books, the mutts have the eyes of the tributes, which really messes Katniss up psychologically because she sees the girls eyes who she killed with the tracker jackets and feel an innumerable amount of guilt. Also, Thresh wasn’t Rue’s brother, however they did come from the same district.

In the books the dogs they sent in here genetically engineered to be the fallen tributes. Katniss looked one of them in the eyes and recognized it as one of them. Also, in the end Peeta almost had his leg ripped off, not just a flesh wound. When they were beamed up there was an emotional scene where Katniss tried to get to him but they rushed him away for surgery. He actually ended up losing his leg and had to have a prostetic one. Also, they put the berries in their mouths and spit them out when the gamemaker announced they both won.

22:55 - Yes, Rue's death was really sad and impactful. Rest in peace, little queen. Here's some infuriating info about this character and this movie: Back when this movie came out, there was a lot of dumb drama about Rue and even Cinna (Katniss's stylist) online. Apparently, many fans hated the fact that Rue was African American in the movie, even though she was literally described as being black in the book. In fact, she was actually described having darker skin! It was the same with Cinna, but most of the angry fans were vocal about Rue. I still remember some of those racists comments and wish they were called out. I'm glad you guys enjoyed the movie regardless, and I'm sure you'll enjoy the next movies.

@@10heidi82 her and some other characters’ screen time was short due to how difficult it is to make a book into a movie. (Not so) fun fact that I haven’t read in the comments: the first time you enter The Hunger Games (12 years old, Katniss' sister's age), your name is in the fishing bowl only once. As each year goes by, your name is in more than one paper (13 years you have 2 papers with your name on them, 14 you have 3 and so on; until 18 when 6 papers have your name on them). So each year that passes you have more chances of being picked (hence the "May the odds be ever in your favour” quote). You can also choose to put your name in more than once in exchange for food or supplies, that’s why Gale says his name was in 42 times. Loved the reaction & subscribed! Rue is one of the sweetest people her death really hit everyone and then seeing the riot afterwards… it’s very impactful. If you have a difficult time reading the books, listen to the audiobooks. They are great. Same goes for the Divergent series. You mentioned you liked it, but the books are better by far. Although, the movies are quite different later on. In the books, the outside population didn't have all that amazing technology like the barrier, the personal combat disks, etc. Still, the core is there, and the books give you so much more detail. Plus, they never did make the movie for the last book in the Divergent series.

Plus the constraint of not hearing Katniss' thoughts when that's the main thing happening in the books must've been hard to work around. Super worth it to read the books and get all the worldbuilding and events they had to cut

7:40 : We wouldn't have hunger games per se, but in that world, I can understand the logic behind why the districts accepted. Because they had the choice to either have one in a thousand chances to see their kid be reaped, or they would see their district be destroyed "like district 13". Two choices, 2 kids die each year, or 10 000 die in one battle. Unfortunately, the needs of the many outweighs the need of the few...

Hunger Games is the American copy of a japanese movie called Battle Royal. One of the greatest movie of all time and the favorite of Quentin Tarantino

it’s absolutely not an american copy of battle royale and that should be extremely obvious to anyone who paid attention to the books or to the creatives who worked on the movies. i love foreign movies and hate american copies of foreign movies but THIS isn’t a copy of BR

I wish they could have done better work with The Infernal devices (shadohunters). It’s such an amazing book series and they ruined th the whole movie. Netflix series was much better but still not it.

You need to watch Battle Royale. A Japanese movie that is Hunger Games before Hunger Games was Hunger Games. So will say Hunger Games is a rip off of Battle Royale. Highly Recommended.
