Yeah of course you would, but it's still understandable. The cops responding to that would've been told "A man shot the victim, and then ran away with a woman, and they both carjacked a car on the other side of the road", having no idea that the guy was wanted for anything else, and of course they can't immediately take her at her word, I'm sure many girlfriends of small-time criminals claim to be hostages when they get caught. But yeah, from her perspective, I'm sure it didn't help at all, after being handcuffed to a bed with that guy and almost getting raped. Cheers!
@suprcrzy4 жыл бұрын
@@SalahEddineH - Ummm no. Do you know what its like to get arrested? Even just overnight for a dwi (which is what happened to me, and that was 100% my fault). Its fing awful. You're in a crowded dirty ass holding area with a bunch of ppl. You're treated like an animal. You have to wait to see a judge. While you wait you have to sleep on the floor, and if you have to use the restroom, theres no privacy. Then you have to make bail/bond. Pay for it out of your own pocket, sign a bunch of documents (from the jail and the bail bonds place), then you can go home. This doesn't even include the shame and embarrassment you have the entire time (and im sure she has a mugshot now even tho she's innocent). And oh yea btw, we screwed up, you're innocent, dont worry about it.. If I was her, I would try and sue. Just doing their job my ass. If they were actually doing their job, they would have known she was an innocent victim, not arrested for 2 days.
@SalahEddineH4 жыл бұрын
@@suprcrzy I understand why you'd be outraged. I really do. And I hope she's doing better now. But it's still not the arresting officers fault. I'm not saying it should've happened like this. If the US police system was as it should be, police departments would communicate between each other and a kidnap victim in one area wouldn't be arrested for murder in another area. But the highway patrol DON'T communicate that much with local police, I'm guessing, and so they don't know the face and name of every kidnap victim. What they did know, at the time, was that she was standing beside the guy who shot someone at a gas station, and that she got in the car with him when he carjacked another family. What's the safer alternative, when you only have that information? Taking your suspect at her word, or telling her "Okay, we will figure this out, for know get in the car", and take her in for processing. THIS is why police SHOULD be polite with suspects and treat them well, because sometimes the suspect turns out to be a traumatized victim and you don't want to be the cop who treated her like shit. Unfortunately they rarely behave as professionally as they should, and citizens like you become traumatized by being in police custody. Also, if she was held overnight, yeah she would definitely have grounds to sue. That's gross negligence because she should've been put immediately in an interview room, where she can give her story and it can be confirmed in a few minutes. But everything I read said she was handcuffed, searched, fingerprinted, and processed, but not held overnight. About the fingerprinting, searching, and cuffs, do you really want to be the lowly cop who has to explain in your report "Suspect Number 2 claimed to be a victim of kidnapping and seemed distressed, so we didn't restrain her and didn't search her. Consequently she stabbed suspect N°1 / ran into oncoming traffic / turned out to be the killer's girlfriend / etc" I hope you see my point of view here. I'm not saying it doesn't sucks big time. And I'm not saying it's not proof the police system needs a lot of giant changes. I'm just saying the individual cop involved in the arrest weren't wizards, they were highway patrol cops suddenly called into a murder at a gas station. Cheers!

Wow, just absolutely wow, that victim impact statement made by the family friend blew me away. I live in Australia and in 2019 I finally got justice for a heinous crime committed against me 32yrs earlier when I was just 7yrs old, I was allowed to give a victim impact statement HOWEVER, there were rules, several rules in fact. Firstly it had to be pre written and submitted to the courts 48hrs prior to me reading it in court, a copy was also given to the defendant and his solicitors at that time too, so effectively he knew everything I was going to be saying any way. Secondly I was not allowed to "suggest" what I thought his punishment should be, I was not allowed to ask the judge to impose anything of any sort. Thirdly I wasn't allowed to become angry or show any form of aggression whilst giving my impact statement. So listening to this man's impact statement left me with a huge smile on my face, because that is how it should be, victims and their loved ones should be free to say exactly how they feel, instead here in Australia victims are again told to be silent and do as we are told throughout the whole process, it's so wrong. It's like being a victim of the original crime all over again. The defendant's have more rights than the victims how fucked up is that shit.

Until that day- nothing will change. (And of course they're afforded special protection with our tax money!)

Actually, the american system is the only system in the world that was literally created and designed to protect the accused. And for good reason. I wont get into the reasons now, but just think about why that may be. Think of history. But you are right about the victim impact statements. Victims should be able, when they get the chance to speak directly to the person that hurt them or someone they loved, should be able to do so freely. Completely freely. Without rules. Without propriety. Just honesty and rawness. Defendants SHOULD have the right to face accusers, and after conviction, a victim should get to speak directly to the person that hurt them, knowing they are completely safe and can say whatever they want and whatever they feel. It is objectively fair. Legally fair. And morally right. It is also important psychologically and can help with healing, if the victim wants to do it. (Also loved ones of a victim.)

Something thst bothered me though, is the inference that a Hooker would be less loved by someone. "That woman you mistook for a hooker, she was an angel. A loved daughter"
@tamsin1969 Жыл бұрын
@nelliem3935 really? I hadn't heard that in this video, however I've definitely heard that mentality in other cases and I agree with you 100%. Women have always been judged for doing a job that men frequent without having to deal with the same shame or stigma. It's appalling. Sex workers are assumed to be loose women with low morals and suffering addiction or mental health issues, and while this can be the case, it very often isn't true at all. Everyone is deserving of safety and respect and care regardless of their choices. Especially when those choices hurt no-one else.
@nelliem3935 Жыл бұрын
@tamsin1969 he actually says that to him in the interrogation. Like the implications that the girl he thought was a hooker was ACTUALLY a loved child, an angel. There is no difference in their values. It was an awful insinuation by both men. Unintentionally, of course, by the detective to reinforce the crime.but still, the language is problematic. I totally agree with the rest of your comment also.

There was this guy that killed his GF supposedly because she wouldn’t stop smoking cigarettes while pregnant, I think he killed an officer who tried to approach him after that. So then this POS gets on the stand and says he’s Vegan and doesn’t believe in killing God’s creations. Loco!

If someone is interested in a loose translation from spanish: Basically, the woman says that she is going to do whatever she can to help him, then he replies in english that they might know spanish, then she answers that she just was speaking to him normal, like always (so i guess they speak spanish to each other at home) and finishes that she cannot really do much, but she will do what she can to help him.

You left out the part that the cops strip searched Andrea, fingerprinted her, photographed her, and released her mug shot to the press! I hope she sues big time. Not the way to treat a kidnap victim.

@veronikahorecny64504 жыл бұрын
He said they arrested her at first because they thought she was in on it. When you get arrested (in the US) you get strip searched, finger printed, and a mug shot is taken and released to public records and the media has access to it. I think it was fucking asinine for them to assume she had anything to do with, especially since they should have had evidence (CC tv, testimony from family he kidnapped, the video he took of her) to prove she was kidnapped. Plus she was in no way linked to the crime. It made zero sense. But it’s not like he purposely left out key information, or this is information being hidden or ignored. Most people are aware that when you’re arrested these things ALWAYS happen. I mean come on it’s a true crime channel. Most people know what happens when you get arrested lol
@rachelblake23504 жыл бұрын
@@veronikahorecny6450 Yeah I was going to say that that seemed like pretty standard procedure, but then I thought about just how fucking easy it would be to figure out she had nothing to do with it just by the circumstances alone.
@1962pjh4 жыл бұрын
@Amanda R No, she should have been treated like a victim from the beginning until they could prove she did something. You must love living in a Gestapo type society. Idiot.

Imagine being a girl (I'm a guy) being abducted by some guy who then, while you're sitting in a driving car with him straight up says "I'm sorry about that girl I killed, I killed that girl because she screamed and I had to silence her forever" Poor Andrea, that must've been the most terrifying thing to hear from her kidnapper.

saab92513584 I have to imagine her fellow cops and detectives that knew details might’ve spared telling her. For a couple of reasons, one they didn’t want her to tell him and hurt their case. Two, she is/was married to the guy, if they told her all the details she’d be likely to have some kind of mental breakdown or worse, cops really aren’t in the business of traumatizing people if they can avoid it. I’m not sticking up for her but if all she really knew was what the media was saying based on what little police will say and what Edwin is saying she may not have known just how bad what he did was. I’m not defending her but she did love the guy enough to marry him. She saw something in him so it’s not so unreasonable that she’d be inclined to help him. Of course her being a cop it kinda makes you wonder what she meant by “help”. It could mean help get him a lawyer or help by hiding evidence or something.
