I love how often these movie-license games would be clutching at straws trying to create gameplay mirroring the movie in question. Particularly impressed with the showdown, which is just the one guy with a gun in the movie turned into a crazy shooting gallery 😄

That cook is lightning fast! I thought I was dealing with an army of cooks! 😄

I remember the large ad campaign for this game!
@gearsofgamesАй бұрын
I don't remember seeing any ads at all for this one. Maybe it was advertised more in 8-bit magazines.

Lovely looking game - and they really tried something different with the mini-games with the sprite zooming going on, that was quite an achievement for the ST! Shmup section reminds me heavily of In the Hunt by Irem, visually it's really similar too - except the Irem game came out 3 years later.

It really does look great, shame they didn't put some more effort into gameplay. In the Hunt looks great! Reminded me of Metal Slug and checking the credits, some of the designers had also worked on the Metal Slug games...

on the 1988 sub sim, I managed to discover 2 cheats, one allowed for moving the ship to any spot on the map. I think I can recreate

Never played the sub sim.

It has great use of colour on the ST, I guess.

Yeah, it does look really nice! Shame they couldn't have put some more game play in there. The game apparently ends after the missile silo stage...

looks decent for the ST

Looks nice at least, but a bit cramped in play area for my taste. I guess the sluggish controls on the scrolling section are meant to simulate the difficulties in manouvreing a real sub-marine!
@gearsofgamesАй бұрын
Yeah, I guess that was the plan and it might have worked if the sub was smaller and there was more space to move around.

Ironically, it was reading the review for the "other" Red October game that got me interested in the novel and even the movie when it came out. So imagine my disappointment when I saw the "action" version based on that same movie... (At least the ST's graphics look nice.)
@gearsofgamesАй бұрын
Yeah, looks really nice and the mini games are pretty impressive. Feels like they wanted to do a bit of a Cinemaware game, but with really shallow gameplay.

Never played this one, it looks cool, the submarine arcade parts are Blood Money (planet 2) but with poor controls I guess. The (bad and frustrating ) gameplay seems to be based in avoiding rocks and icebergs instead shooting enemies. The graphics and the main concept are really good, probably it needs more developement.

Shame, because it does look very nice!

Game ST Atari, game that makes happy:) (.. is it not possible to play with a mouse, on the last level? )
@gearsofgamesАй бұрын
Don't think so, I tried moving the mouse, but nothing happened. Maybe there is an option, but couldn't find the manual...

@gearsofgames Great film, poor game. Then again that was nothing new back in the day.

there was another game with the same name, a sub simulator, much better

Yeah, it probably had more depth! Sorry, couldn't resist! 😁
