That brush like object you found may be whale baleen from the dead whale you mentioned earlier in your video, it forms part of the upper part of the whales mouth and acts like a filter when it is feeding

This is so interesting! I grew up on a small-ish island in Denmark where there are large deposits of a type of "diatomite" called "moler". A former neighbor of my parents was the head of a local musem that specializes in fossils found in moler - so Ive been hunting fossils MANY times when I was younger. It really is just something special to crack open something found on the ground and see something that is millions of years old

I recently read online that in order to keep things were cranking when they dry out you need to remove the salt from that period there method suggested was putting it to soak in fresh water that you changed every day for 3 weeks. A gentleman who claimed to be a paleontologist said they sometimes do it with mammoth teeth by putting them in tank of their toilet. That way every time you flush your changing the water and desalinating the sample.

I can't pretend to know anything about fossils. but as far as breaking rock, a bit more patience by tapping lightly with a chisel around the circumference will send the splitting signal though the rock much better and you will get a much higher yield on a potentially valuable specimen. I have broken lots of rocks....

@@ForgottenFossils I stayed above the fish and chip shop on the first floor. Overlooks the boats and the church on the hill. Honestly, it was the best view I have ever seen and it cost 15 quid. Ive paid 1500 bucks to look at Sydney Harbour but Whitby was better. Ole Capn Cook, hes a legend.

I found ammonites like that with brown she'll on it. I showed one similar in my video remember. The ammonite I showed was a dactileryoceras semysinlartim how ever you spell it 😂. I thought your ammonite was very cool looking in that nodule 👏.

I think that thing you that were wondering about what is could possible not be part of a whale's gill. They tend to have gills lined with these feather looking things that help separate the food from the water.

Hi , another great video mate 👍 👌, and the answer to your question roughly 9 mins into the video , it's the bristle/filter part of a whale 🐋 proberly the one that got washed up a while back 😁, and im still working my way up to doing a fossiling/ prepping video I was going to do one when I was at sandsend last month but I think I need to get some sort of mount for my phone or might invest in a go pro camera 🤔 , 😁🦕🦖.

Hi, this was full of pyrite you can see the greenish tint. I tried with my dremel but it wasnt the finish i wanted so I sent it to a professional preparer.

At around 9:00 looks like a whale's baleen brush. Some whales don't have teeth they have a comb structure use to collect shrimp-like krill, plankton and small fish. Love your channel I'll have give this a go . You can't keep fossils in Canada:( Off to the UK then.

does two empty rock are very good quality of flint, you could have done knife blade or arrow head with that.

Theres alot of natural flint I find on the beaches. I wish i could find some worked ones.

You would have a much better chance of breaking open any rock along a line that you want if you do it between 2 hard objects i.e. hammer and anvil. Just tap and rotate for the next tap, a bit of patience and you'll have a much less chance of breaking them in the wrong direction.

You can take them home and use proper air pens if you have them, but these are quite common to find in this area. Anything rare I bring home
