As an Army veteran, I’m disgusted at the military! We are to help the American people! I’m a permanent disabled veteran. As soon I got paid on the 1st, I ordered $300 worth of baby/toddler food. Amazon matched my order. My friends bought the baby/toddler snacks. I made up bags that contained breakfast,lunch,dinner,snacks,bibs and utensils. It was sent on the 2nd semi truck from my community here in West Virginia. I wish I could help with the clean up efforts, but waiting for a spinal fusion in November. I might not wear a uniform anymore, but I’m still a soldier who cares for America and her people! It’s going to be us Americans who will have to take care of our people!

Well, FEMA built outdoor showers but then the Hurricane Helene survivors were told the showers were NOT for them! So FEMA shows up to fill the local hotels and then set up a table with a few FEMA employees to get people signed up for their $750 grant or loan that no one seems to get approved for. Legitimate people who lost everything are rejected for whatever this $750 is since we hear the fine print says it has to be paid back within one year.

My husband and I were in Cherokee North Carolina on Monday. There were 3 fema tables set up that we saw, in the back of parking lots,within blocks of each other, but they were 40 minutes from the disaster site. There was no one there registering for the assistant, I'm assuming bc they don't have transportation. The fema organization was staying at the Farrah hotel and casino resort. Im a tree worker in Asheville. We have been working 16 hour days 7 days a week to restore power. So far me and my crew have been working within the city while my house and all roads going there are devastated. Its odd that the places where the democratic votes will be are getting the help they need while the country people (most likely republican voters) are still digging each other out with no help in sight. So why would pilots wreck supply lines? You stall the help long enough for the people to die and those people wont vote. Its our government killing American citizens to control the elections. Damn that first video got me more than any of the others… That’s partially because of the anger and passion in her voice. The other reason is that I feel like these are my people. I’m not from Appalachia, but I’ve lived my entire life in Kentucky and Appalachia is a part us. My mom’s entire family is from the mountains in West Virginia. The people in trouble sound like the people in my community, and the landscape reminds me of my home. I’d be heartbroken about the devastation no matter what, but this disaster has hit different.

The "novelty" has worn off for those with short attention spans but this disaster isnt something that will quickly be gotten under control. We're going to continue to need help and continue to need those with large platforms to get the word out about whats happening on the ground here. We still need donations...especially for warm winter clothing.
