I think it's a smart move to rename this and not call it Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. Because most of the hate recently for Ghostbusters and Ocean's 8 is that they are just riding the coattails of a classic or successful franchise. You can't please everyone though as well all know.

They definitely can if we're just talking about comedic female-lead buddy films like Bridesmaids. but if the plot/story is anywhere near or similar to a male lead classic, and the fandom recognizes it, then everyone sort of jumps on it and criticizes that point. And I do think it's a valid point when you directly take the name of the classic franchise and slap it on your movie in order to have a pre-installed base of viewers/fans. But The Hustle is at least trying to distance itself from the name/fame of the classic source, as far as I know. Thanks for your reply!

Another remake that doesnt get the original. In this it seems like the behavior of the scoundrels is glorified as if they are right to be taking advantage of the men. In the original, the scoundrels were taught a lesson by a female scoundrel they thought they were conning. The question is, will this movie have the women outsmarted by a man they aim to con? From the look of the movie, no. They took a well crafted comedy that in no way needed a remake and turned it into a crass comedy that seems very poorly done.

@@tjc2121 Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is a remake too, Bedtime Stories (1964) with Marlon Brando as the American con man and David Niven as the sophisticated Englishman. Except for the last 5 minutes of DRS, the movies were virtually the same, just adding in that both con men exaggerated, as part of their cons, their service during WW2.
