Yeah, I think I would have preferred a smaller interpretation of the Hutt heavy ships (ISD size at most); at the same time, they were also designed with the balance of the mods in question, and in that regard the ships make perfect sense: Hutts have to be able to stand up to supercapital ships somehow. While large masses of small ships certainly get the job done, it is also an EXPENSIVE way to get that job done: some tankiness is required.

yeah, that can be due to military assets or just the environment. a real world example is Switzerland, they weren't invaded in world war one or two because they kept armed neutrality and were located in the alps which together made Switzerland a very defensible nation that would be too costly to invade when the wars were already in such deadlock. The hutts are in a similar situation, a neutral party that would just take too many resources to conquer.

Didn't work at Jutland though, it is basically a bluff and if someone calls you on it, you lost. But of course you have to have an enemy, who is willing to commit his forces to such an attack, the Republic would not and the Empire would have not gained much from such a victory, which the Hutts weren't willing to sell/do already.

I enjoy the mix of EU and canon, I find the new canon so lacking in the details that the old EU had. Like they're afraid to commit to anything because they don't want to have to bother with continuity later. Bring on those minor factions, the Hapens, the Zygary, and even some of the corporate private security firms would be interesting.

I think quality fanfiction lore like this would be a great addition to the channel, particularly when it concerns Legends, because there's a lot of material and from the years I've been watching the channel I trust your judgement and skill at curating it. One of EC Henry's greatest draws for me is his fanon and speculation and how he connects it with existing and often obscure elements of the Star Wars galaxy. I also love going through roleplay stories like Corey's campaign and taking elements from that to reference in my own games with my IRL group. It would be good to have a very clean distinction between what's official and what's fanon, though, it was a little bit hard to tell for me on this one - it was just the name and the art that were official, yeah?

OT were there ever _any_ "nice or good" Hutts that still had a powerbase? A pragmatic Hutt who treats any slaves well enough and is less oppressive to other species (not other Hutts) based on the theory that having good relations with other powers and being seen as the lesser evil could be a effective strategy. Less at risk of being overthrown by their own people as their own people won't have it so good under another Hutt, and seen as "the Good Hutt" by bigger factions like the Republic or New Republic, so they will be more likely to get deals and maybe even subtle support against other more problematic Hutts? "He's a Hutt you can safely do business with..."

EU legends there was a Hutt named Ember or Amber, .. point being .. Said Hutt offer health and retirement benefits to its employees. He also moved around a lot and function as a visiting.. school teacher .. to talent scout. Ember has 600years worth of Corelian smugglers bloodlines working for him. They refer to Ember as Uncle or godfather, even great granddaddy. He is/was personable around young children. WotC3e Star Wars magazine had his stat write up. Part of the Vong resistance and had a number of darkside points from losing 400year worth of smuggler bloodlines. Classic line, " I remember your great grandfather when he was but a small baby, I even change his undergarments for a few years."

Dunno that it's quite what you're asking, but Legends had Blotus, who served as Supreme Chancellor of the Galactic Republic for 275 years at some point during the 9th millennium BBY. His term was quite beneficial for the Republic's prosperity, and he was well-remembered even thousands of years later.

The Hutts were widespread enough that there were probably plenty who had little to no connection to the Hutt Cartels. Blotus was a pretty beloved Chancellor from the Republic's history, Aarrba was a very respectable and lenient Hutt who ran a repair dock during the old Republic on Koros Major during the Great Hyperspace War, and Popara Anjiliac ran mostly legitimate businesses to the point where even the New Jedi Order thought he was trustworthy enough to work with. I remember in the MedStar books there was a Hutt who served as quartermaster on the planet for the Republic, but he did have some connections with the Black Sun.

There is also the fact that every time someone invaded a Hutt planet, the locals would go the ground and sabotage the hell out of the occupying force. Leave a tank unattended? It's going to be up on blocks without an engine in 10 minutes. Your troops loot some booze? Poisoned. It's like trying to occupy Detroit. Plus the Hutts could just hire every mercenary in 10 parsecs if needed.

When it comes to covering ships and other topics, I think its fine to delve into fanon interpretations and fan-made stats and backgrounds, so long as them being fan-made is defined. As for minor factions, it could be interesting to take a look into the Corporate Sector. Also maybe something on the Tion Hegemony/Tion space in general.

I mean, the Empire worked with a lot of the criminal underbelly when it could. They took over Kessel with the express purpose of mass industrialization of the spice/mining operations that were going on there already, to generate more resources/profit. Granted, that was done with the intent of providing an excuse to get shipments and resources out to the Maw Installation without too much scrutiny, but it is still a thing that happened.

I was playing the Star Wars: New Dawn mod as Alderaan and it had a really interesting lore. I had a piracy problem along the hyperlane and had to be bailed out by the Empire while also laying down the foundations of the Rebel Fleet. I had to strike a balance between preventing the imperial senate from becoming the Emperor’s plaything while also using all these military edicts to build and supply the burgeoning rebel fleet. I’ve not been this engaged by a Star Wars plot for a long time and I feel it was more down to the RNG and community modders than a scripted narrative.

I mean, mostly those ships would be crewed by slaves/mercenaries, not the Hutts themselves. Hutts really only move fast in water or swampy/muddy environments, otherwise they just use repulsorlifts.

And the especially big Calamari cruisers have certain areas flooded because they are civilian areas for back when the ships were still mostly city instead of warship. But as I said, Hutts have repulsor stuff for if they need to move quickly on land. Though Legends did have a clan of Hutts who wore carapace armor and they didn't use repulsors, just raw musclebro power...and additional servos/engines so their carapace counted as powered armor.

The stern of the vessel actually looks well defended also, which is rare for a Star Wars vessel....I mean....one would suspect that a military vessel in space would have a '360' defense radius on its body, however few universes do this, I don't even think Star Trek dose this...one universe that dose this, though I've never actually seen the show, seems to be The Expanse, I've seen clips of the show, and all the vessels seem to have 360 defense and offense weapons, another I can think of would a game I play named 'Between the Stars' where different vessel will have turrets on top, below, and some vessels at the stern...odd how few universes acknowledge this fact.

Respectfully, I disagree with your analysis of the reason the Hutts failed so spectacularly against the Vong. Even if they had focused on resistance from the outset, it wouldn't have made any substantial difference. The Hutts are certainly a regional power, but against something like the Vong, they were pathetically outclassed and virtually all their holdings were conquered within a year and a half. The only reason the Hutts survived in any major capacity from this calamity was eventual assistance from the GFFA and the main focus of the Vong turning elsewhere.

Considering how far away from Vector Prime Hutt Space is even a regional power would have been able to put up strong resistance to the Vong by the time they reached that part of the galaxy considering how much the invasion was stalling out by that point. Even more so if they were allied and coordinating with other powers in the Galaxy like the New Republic, Imperial Remnant or the Hapans. Another factor to consider is the Vong would be even weaker since they wouldn't have had the planets given to them by the Hutt's to help replenish their military so the Vong would need to conquer even more planets to have the same industrial base when they were already struggling with attrition.

Hutts are interesting faction as they aren't really interested in direct conquest. Yeah they have a large section of space directly under their rule. But because they are a crime syndicate they don't need to rule a planet, just control enough key business and industries to bring more money and luxury goods to their empire. The actually map of Hutt influence was probably galaxy wide.

IIRC; in the old EU it was suggested that the hutts might be the oldest space faring civilization in the galaxy at this time. Back before The Old Republic they a lot more militaristic, true warlords instead of crime lords that would just as likely to invade and conquer a system as corrupt it. They conquered a large chunk of the galaxy and might have reached as far as Coruscant.
