@vaishnavisingh92443 жыл бұрын
it's a weird thing that when people start trying hard to be something they usually fail at it (unless its a skill based task) like the more people act likable, the more cringe they seem to the general audience of people above 20. I highly doubt that any of them have fans the same age as them. Again as Alex said this is what makes these people different from A-Listers because the actual A-listers keep their personal and private life seperated for the most part. A few million fans isn't that hard, but to keep that attention for long is when you can say you have influence. The A-Listers have +10 years of professional success, I doubt any of these guys would impact the world in any form by the time they hit 30's. If they did, then good for them.

What really annoys me about a show like this is that it aims to give its audience (mostly tweens and sad adolescents) a false sense of reality-a delusion of grandeur, if you will. It seems these kids talk a lot about how they were once a “regular kid” too, but got rich and famous just by doing the absolute bare minimum. In reality, it’s a luck of the draw really. And look what happens to these kids once they strike luck-they become insufferable, entitled brats that keep running on a hamster wheel to stay relevant. What happens when the well runs dry? They’re not talented, so what happens when they get (**gasp!**) old?? As in, their 30s?? 😱 What a great “influence.”
@segsb70852 жыл бұрын
Exactly! That's why parents/guardians are more important than ever...the rise in depression and suicides amongst teenagers is a real problem and things like this largely contribute to it. Kids need responsible adults in their lives either completely shielding them from this madness or at the very least discussing these things with them.

@@segsb7085 I couldn’t agree more. I don’t have kids, but I’m a high school teacher. I see on a daily basis just how much these young influencers, well…influence the youth. They are constantly looking for validation, and when they don’t get it, it’s like their world comes crashing down. I mean, everyone likes and appreciates feeling validated, but kids today have a really hard time pushing past disappointment. They need to learn that it’s ok to fail at things in life, and not shut down from it. You’re absolutely right, suicide and mental health is becoming a serious problem for kids these days and it’s heartbreaking 😢

I find it interesting that Alex's review of this "show" is more mean-spirited than normal; Hype House has evoked vitriol from the man, and it clearly deserves it. Riverdale is one thing, it's stupid but harmless, but Hype House is genuinely awful, and even Alex can't totally keep his complete hatred of this show from shining through. For example, could you see Alex even passingly make some of the jokes he does here at any other show? I couldn't.

Some of my favorite on-the-nose quotes from reviewers: -"Chase seems to realize he needs to leave his old friends behind to advance his music career. Hudson approaches this dilemma with the awkwardness of a first-year college student trying to dump his high school girlfriend during Thanksgiving break. It’s clear he wants to move on - he has moved out of the Hype House into his own mansion - but he’s very aware that his clout was a major factor in the group’s success. Without him, what do they have?" -"He’s having trouble motivating his posse of mostly indistinguishable white dudebros to contribute to the house’s bottom line (one scene cuts from Petrou lecturing the group about their laziness to a shot of one member throwing a potted plant at another’s sleeping form)." -"the last thing any of these bona fide social media stars want to do is film any content at all. Hype House is a show about a bunch of famous kids who hate what they do." -"Larray and Nikita aren’t official Hype House members and don’t live in the mansion-and it doesn’t seem like a coincidence that they’re two of the most successful faces featured on the show."

I think even now mainstream media is still pretty determined to look down on platforms like KZbin, tiktok etc. People like these guys fit in perfectly with their narrative so they’re the ones they focus on. The sad part is they’re so fixated on looking down on it all that they don’t take the time to actually look properly. I’ve found so much amazing content on here, of so many different types. I genuinely think anyone can find something they’d enjoy and would interest them on KZbin if they took the time to look. I mean, I’ve watched hundreds and hundreds of hours of content and never even watched one prank video (gone wrong). Keep up the good work, you’re doing great :)

It isn't really about Youtueb, tiktok, etc. at all. Reality TV is a modern day freak show. Just go back to The Real World, which began long before social media and even the internet were big deals. It's about displaying how shallow people are so the audience feels better about themselves in comparison. What exemplifies that more than twenty year olds with a lot of money who never did a hard day's work in their lives?

I have to agree. I think there is a dark side and a bright side to all of these platforms. Some of the content creators I love here are Rachel Maksy who does creative sewing/crafting type videos as well as Micarah Tewers who is really humorous. My channel focuses on gaming (ffxiv) and I've found some really cool creators in this space too like Sen and Lucy Pyre. There's a lot of entertainment to be had and not even just that -- you can find educational content, relaxing content, really anything.

@@Aitherea exactly! There’s such a wide variety of great content, and I love Rachel Maksy! It’s so easy to ignore the crap and find stuff that interests you. I hate Tiktok so much. I despise it with a passion. I know that hating an entire platform for what a bunch of idiots do disregarding all the good content other creators release feels petty but here's the thing: this sort of thing, the hateful idiocy from shows like Hype House, is what Tiktok itself chooses to advertise itself with. Have you seen Tiktok ads on KZbin? Calling them "cringe" would be underselling it. Like, there's this guy in Latin America whose entire shtick is to find funny comments other people make and read them in a silly voice. I want to make it clear: he doesn't _write_ any of the comments. He merely finds them and reads them in a stupid voice, while putting a silly face. For that he gets millions of followers and people who keep telling me how hilarious he is and how they love his content, even though calling that content "his" is beyond generous. And I think it's perfectly reasonable to despise a platform when it takes the time to promote and advertise this terrible sort of content while hiding or not bothering to show genuinely good and interesting creators.
