They made a show where strangers get married, wanting to prove that love is blind and you can commit to someone without establishing a connection. So naturally now they make a show where engaged couples get separated, wanting to prove that even a connection established over years isn't enough love to commit to someone. makes sense
@JayFolipurba2 жыл бұрын
And it's the same team of hosts, the ones who are only there because they're known as being married xD But seriously, in most cases, over a year or two years isn't enough to know if you want to be married to someone. Take it from a married man: the wedding is one of the most stressful, least fun times you're likely to have in your marriage. You spend months and months planning and budgeting, writing invitations, getting your shit together, and then it's a whole day of pictures and sweating. Get married because you want to formalize your commitment to love and cherish one another, and for literally no other reason.
@alisaurus42242 жыл бұрын
I think marriage is important because of the legal rights that “piece of paper” brings…but you can get that with 2 quick courthouse visits (one for license, one for ceremony). You can have a committed relationship without assuming legal responsibility for another adult though. True. I think people have a lot of confused ideas of what marriage is & isn't, both good and bad. [This might include Alex, actually...]
@rachelm26572 жыл бұрын
Yes that is true of some but legally being connected has other advantages for both members then I want you to take care of me. For example, if my husband is in the hospital I am the next of kin. If he deploys I am his legal wife and get all the appropriate information. As a spouse if I have to move with him then they cover my progear in the move. We have access to each other's health plans. There are many advantages that are not financial and amazingly many married people still keep separate financials. So are some looking for that...sure...are most people that get married? Not sure I can agree with that.
@rachelm26572 жыл бұрын
Totally agree that is some people's want to get married is to have their day and wedding. You can tell when those people make the day about me not us. You can see where they ignore fights with their spouse. Are married people going to fight? Heck yeah. But if you can't have a disagreement on what the invitations are going to look like....maybe you don't need them.

The concept you are describing at the end is called the "Relationship Escalator" people on the relationship escalator Date to Get Married to Buy a House to Have Kids to PTA to Have Grandkids etc etc. It's a thing we talk about a lot when we do talks on Consensual or Ethical non-monogamy in human sexuality classes. Often when people are on the relationship escalator, they are not actually paying attention to the relationship. They are not actively nurturing or participating in the thing, they just check the box and move on. The concept of the relationship escalator often also heavily reinforces toxic monogamy.

I swear most of these people want a wedding not a marriage. And if your partner keeps asking and pushing you to get married when you’re not ready, for whatever reason, that’s a big red flag to just leave. Marriage is a big deal and their not respecting your boundaries. My Grandpa actually asked my Grandma to marry him but she wasn’t ready and you know what he did? He accepted that and waited for her till she told him she wanted to marry him. They stayed married the rest of their lives! If you keep pushing for it that just shows that you shouldn’t get married.

@Shadeadder2 жыл бұрын
I mean. That depends on the relationship, though. My husband and I were not satisfied to just date for years on end, because the concept of marriage was incredibly important to us, in part due to religious beliefs. We're much happier now, married, then we were when we were dating for four years (we wanted to get married at year 2, but we needed to finish college first). So...yes, you can truly love your SO and still be impatient about wanting to get married. I'm glad y'all figured out what worked for you, but not everyone is content to only date for five-to-seven years, and that's not a reflection of whether the relationship is developed/healthy/"true love".

Although it will suck not to be able to take his last name (not as an ownership thing, his is just cooler than mine)
@mandisaw2 жыл бұрын
@@starcrysis23 This is a US-context, so I don't know if it applies to you. But you can change your name to whatever here, you can take his, he can take yours, or you can both take a combined/hyphenated last name, all with or without marriage. Also, just a point, but legal marriage has a lot more repercussions than just finances - a lot of things just automatically apply to spouses, like medical proxy, insurance, and parental rights. It's definitely a big decision, but you both should at least know what you're eschewing.

As women we have biological clocks. You're not supposed to be wild in your twenties and be with 20+ guys & then decide oh now that I've let everyone have me, now I'm ready to "settle". Marriage is supposed to be having a life partner to do life with& make experiences with & to create a family with/& u become family. *As women at age 30 our chances of becoming pregnant dramatically start to decrease, and our chances of having a baby with down syndrome or other issues dramatically increases, and continues to increase every year thereafter. Hence why so many of my fellow women are ending up alone lonely, bitter & either childless or single mothers. I mean do u think a man who is in his 30s & has financial stability is going to want a woman who's in her 30s who's been with 15+ other guys & only has a few yrs left of being fertile best case scenario (obviously plenty of women can and do get pregnant in their 30s but it actually is the exception not the rule & Did you know that pregnancy at age 35 is considered & literally called *geriatric pregnancy*?). Or is he going to want a woman in her 20s who hasn't been with a bunch of other men & who he can build a family with? Anyway it's sad that so many women in the last 10yrs are falling for this mindset that their 20s are for casually dating & wasting their precious time sleeping with random guys. It's hard to expect a man to respect you when you don't respect yourself. I wish more women would value themselves more ❤️
