They made a show where strangers get married, wanting to prove that love is blind and you can commit to someone without establishing a connection. So naturally now they make a show where engaged couples get separated, wanting to prove that even a connection established over years isn't enough love to commit to someone. makes sense
@JayFolipurba
@JayFolipurba 2 жыл бұрын
And it's the same team of hosts, the ones who are only there because they're known as being married xD But seriously, in most cases, over a year or two years isn't enough to know if you want to be married to someone. You shouldn't get married unless you've known each other for at least a handful of years and know you can probably go the same amount again. I'd say don't get married before 5 or 7 years have passed

Take it from a married man: the wedding is one of the most stressful, least fun times you're likely to have in your marriage. You spend months and months planning and budgeting, writing invitations, getting your shit together, and then it's a whole day of pictures and sweating. Get married because you want to formalize your commitment to love and cherish one another, and for literally no other reason.

I think marriage is important because of the legal rights that “piece of paper” brings…but you can get that with 2 quick courthouse visits (one for license, one for ceremony). Yes that is true of some but legally being connected has other advantages for both members then I want you to take care of me. For example, if my husband is in the hospital I am the next of kin. If he deploys I am his legal wife and get all the appropriate information. As a spouse if I have to move with him then they cover my progear in the move. We have access to each other's health plans. There are many advantages that are not financial and amazingly many married people still keep separate financials. So are some looking for that...sure...are most people that get married? Not sure I can agree with that.

The concept you are describing at the end is called the "Relationship Escalator" people on the relationship escalator Date to Get Married to Buy a House to Have Kids to PTA to Have Grandkids etc etc. It's a thing we talk about a lot when we do talks on Consensual or Ethical non-monogamy in human sexuality classes. Often when people are on the relationship escalator, they are not actually paying attention to the relationship. They are not actively nurturing or participating in the thing, they just check the box and move on. The concept of the relationship escalator often also heavily reinforces toxic monogamy.

I mean. That depends on the relationship, though. My husband and I were not satisfied to just date for years on end, because the concept of marriage was incredibly important to us, in part due to religious beliefs. We're much happier now, married, then we were when we were dating for four years (we wanted to get married at year 2, but we needed to finish college first). So...yes, you can truly love your SO and still be impatient about wanting to get married. As women we have biological clocks. You're not supposed to be wild in your twenties and be with 20+ guys & then decide oh now that I've let everyone have me, now I'm ready to "settle". Marriage is supposed to be having a life partner to do life with& make experiences with & to create a family with/& u become family. *As women at age 30 our chances of becoming pregnant dramatically start to decrease, and our chances of having a baby with down syndrome or other issues dramatically increases, and continues to increase every year thereafter. Hence why so many of my fellow women are ending up alone lonely, bitter & either childless or single mothers. I mean do u think a man who is in his 30s & has financial stability is going to want a woman who's in her 30s who's been with 15+ other guys & only has a few yrs left of being fertile best case scenario (obviously plenty of women can and do get pregnant in their 30s but it actually is the exception not the rule & Did you know that pregnancy at age 35 is considered & literally called *geriatric pregnancy*?). Or is he going to want a woman in her 20s who hasn't been with a bunch of other men & who he can build a family with? Anyway it's sad that so many women in the last 10yrs are falling for this mindset that their 20s are for casually dating & wasting their precious time sleeping with random guys. It's hard to expect a man to respect you when you don't respect yourself. I wish more women would value themselves more ❤️

I'd heard about it and immediately thought "that's kind of a pointless show" 😅. The gender of the person proposing doesn't matter, but if someone doesn't want to get married, it's isn't always out of fear of commitment. That's something y'all should talk about and if it's that big of an issue perhaps just split as hard as it may be. Or if all else fails go to Netflix 😅. They rly have a hit or a miss.

Yea, marriage is supposed to be a big deal that requires lots of deep, serious discussion, consideration of a variety of factors like career, family and financial goals, compatibility with your partner's family and circles of friends, compatibility with each other, and so on. It's often not "fear of commitment" that keeps people from getting married but "fear of committing to the wrong person".

I loved this show. So did my partner. It was so messy & dramatic. Pure evil at times really. Was it a good show? No. Was it entertaining? 100% yes

I have been following this channel for a while now and it's the first time I'm commenting here, solely for the end portion on the point of marriage and how odd it actually is to dream about the perfect wedding when the relationship is what really matters at the end of the day, ring or no ring. Good points made my man!

Just watched it with my wife (see the irony?) and the thing that batfles me the most is that these young folks are in 2 year long relationships and they’re thinking about marriage?!? Why? They don’t even know their partner well enough, didn’t go to a decent amount of drama together. Theyre really immature sadly.

With everyone ( or at least every woman) in the show being in the early or mid 20s, it feels like they're pushing the message that "you have to get married before you're 30". Maybe it's just me. I'm pretty happy in my 10 year relationship with my partner and we don't really have plans to get married any time soon. It's nice not having that kind of societal pressure.

there’s nothing wrong with marrying in your 20s as long as it’s AT THE RIGHT TIME!! if there’s any pressure to get married, of course it’s not going to work out 🤦🏾‍♀️ and the honeymoon phase of these brand new relationships are not enough to make a decision to LEAVE YOUR PARTNER 😭 idk i’m 24 and i’ve been with my husband for 9 years now - but it works bc there was no pressure to get married, just a random whim

agreed. We got married at 26 and 28yo after being together for a couple of years and me being pregananant so we thought we might as well make it official. ^^ I think the best phase to get married is your mid-20s: that way you can still have kids and have the stamina to run after toddlers, but your brain is fully developed and you know what you want more than you would have at 18 or 19 or so.

In your early 20s you haven’t even been outta high school more than a couple years and are probably not even done with college.. wtf are these people who have only been together for a year or so, giving their partners any sort of ultimatum when the American civil war lasted longer than some of them have been an adult?
