This is by far my favourite EV at the moment. I currently drive a biggish cruiser and thought the size and manoeuvrability of it was no problem by comparison. I tested the next to top model here in the UK, which had AWD, but not the mirror cams or HUD, and it impressed me with quietness, build, comfort, usable performance, smooth one-pedal driving - a real step above much of what is currently out there. I prefer the styling to the Ioniq 5, even if it's a return to having a boot from a more versatile hatch - still, that hasn't hindered Tesla Model 3 sales, has it? I'm glad the styling is a Marmite moment because it means there's a real choice, plus I'm not one of those folk who thinks they have to spec a car for the person who will own it after them, or buy something for the approval of others - let them make their own choice rather than try to make mine.

Lots of these running as taxis here in Korea. Single motor standard battery variants I think.

I was worried until the end that the most important metric of all, the PSC, was going to be missed

Pretty sure I heard a seated heats in there somewhere at the beginning (around the 2 min mark)...not sure if it was done on purpose but after watching a few of these reviews (love them by the way, very refreshing!), I'd say it was most definitely on purpose. Tino pai sir!

Good review, as always, however, I don't think I could ever become used to the cameras for door mirrors. They are fine for cruising but when you need to check things closer you can't move your head to get a better view as in an old-fashioned mirror, this image displayed is fixed.

Great review thanks Gavin. Can you get the base model to test too, that's massively more affordable, but equally massive.

Having the wing mirrors inboard whilst keeping those wing cameras outboard rather defeats the point of having them inboard in the first place. Other than that, seems like a lovely doer.

I have only had a good look at one myself - but yes, the size was my primary impression. It is far too big for the small parking place I have. Just sitting in one was a pleasure. One day I will have to talk my way into a test drive.

Really like the tech and toys, but the styling, mmmmm not convinced. Doesn’t matter because it’s way way out of my budget, oh well. Love your work Gav. Cheers Oh, when are we going to see another vid on Kiwi EV adventures?

Was waiting for it.. the old "seated heats" comment. Very cool car but certainly $$$, this is why we ordered the top-spec Cupra Born.

Much as I’ve the Hyundai cars, Hyundai NZ are taking the pi$$ with pricing compared to overseas. I had deposit on Ioniq5 which I still love the look of…but Hyundai NZ are you kidding me? Having moved to Tesla as a result I love the fact that all the tech is the same…you just add range and performance. All the other manufacturers are confusing because of different ‘trim levels’.

Interesting that you DIDN'T test regenerative braking, especially given the weight you have attached to that with other vehicles!
@examinerian Жыл бұрын
It works very well - going from coast to full one-pedal driving. I tested the AWD version, and in Eco mode it uses one motor to move but engages both to regen/slow. Very smooth system,unlike the more 'lumpy' transition on an Ora Good/Funky Cat, both of which are great 1-pedallers and will bring the car to a full stop on some reasonably steep hills. The Hyundai regen is easier to use, with the steering wheel paddles, whereas the Ora has the settings in a screen menu. HTH

I might be in a complete minority but since the car has a skateboard platform I would quite like to have a bench seat at the front again, with a fold down console like the Toyota hiace.

Really not a fan of the wing camera setup when the displays are right there anyway. Might as well just look at a mirror and save the complexity..

I feel like although this car is great, I don't know what it's market placement is supposed to be when you factor the iPhone option of EVs, Tesla is cheaper and tidier, with less hassle DC charging with Supercharging available.

I think I like the EV6 over the Ioniq6. Hyundai have gone a tad bonkers with the design of this and the Ioniq5. Bonkers I tell thee……bonkers. That said the tech and efficiency is class leading imho

No buttons or knobs - having to dig around menus on touch screens is an anti-safety feature and really annoying. Manufacturers are slowly realising that now. The HUD needs to be introduced very gradually to avoid distracting drivers too. The active "wing mirrors" are just a gimmick. Their definition can't be sharper than your eyes, which is what you get with real mirrors.
@chrissscottt Жыл бұрын
Nice review , like the car and how it looks. Still think you should say 'NZ dollars' rather than just 'dollars'. Also the variable speed of the supercharger reminds me of the annoying nature of my broadband speeds.
@dingbatt Жыл бұрын
Does it suffer from the same problem as the EV6 and Ioniq5, where the steering wheel obscures about 30% of the driver’s display? (Looked like it in your video). Not such a problem for the $125K model with its hud, but lesser models? Mind you, even the new Mercedes EQE suffers from the same design error. When you showed the boot, it was with the seats down, but my impression of the boot (seats up) when I looked at it at the local dealer, was how small and awkwardly shaped it was. Particularly the opening. The Ioniq6 could really have done with being a lift back. For the same price as the car you tested, you could get a Mach-E GT or even an i4edrive40. Looks like your work car park would be perfect for the Fiat 500e or the GWM Ora that you reviewed recently.
