I LOVED this movie and I'm so glad to hear you, one of my fave reviewers, liked it too! I just found it so charming and heartfelt as well as topical. Instant fave and comfort movie for me. Anne & Nick are so so good and have such great chemistry, and the boyband/music aspect of the movie is incredibly believable and well done. The way the marketing team went all out to promote August Moon as a real band is insane. It was my first time seeing Nick Galitzine in anything too, and I became an instant fan and looked into his other work. And I actually don't think this movie will fade into irrelevance. Maybe among critics and casual viewers, but I definitely think it's got a devoted fanbase now who'll keep it alive from here on out.

i think you're pretty much right as far as this being one of those kind of movies that might get lost in the streaming library with maybe being talked about for one weekend and never heard about again. But to be fair, I don't really do romcoms unless they're mixed with a bigger genre that I like and enjoy more. based on what you describe about the two leads being deep characters with a bit of a weird age gap and all that with wanting more out of life and vastly different experiences and all that, that almost makes it interesting for me to consider and see. Not sure if this is for me or the kind of thing I'd like. not sure i'd really be shouting this from the rooftop praise wise, but i could be wrong. I think I'll at least put it aside on my wish list to maybe consider later. Thank you for reminding me about The Big Sick.

One of the problems is that Anne Hathaway is an extremely beautiful, put-together, successful woman. It's kind of hard to relate to her. Her being insecure just because she is 40 (gasp, what an ancient relic) comes across as insincere and much ado about nothing.
@DanMurrellMovies
@DanMurrellMovies Ай бұрын
It’s not just that she’s 40, it’s that Hayes is so much younger, and her insecurity stems from being older than so many of his peers, especially other women. Having turned 40, I can relate to that and I don’t face the same societal standards that women do
@YanaPetruk
@YanaPetruk Ай бұрын
It’s not how it works. I’m a really attractive 32 yo woman. And my bf is 7 years younger than me. We’ve been together almost 4 years. And even though I’m attractive and don’t look my age at all, the sociatal standards are still like that, that women can’t be older for some reason. Or everyone is sure, that he’s just having fun with me. And they know bettter. And etc. there are many problems for such kind of couples even if they are both attractive. I can relate.

Huh, was it one from that weird period where Amazon was trying to commercially publish fanfic? I don't hate the idea, but if we're doing this there's more stories out there than wanting to bone your favorite celebrity or character. Fanfic is where I've found some of the most unhinged, swinging for the fences storylines, and some of the most interesting characters. Why not give people a taste of that stuff, with or without the serial numbers?

This is nothing groundbreaking but it's decent. The acting is obviously above average compared to typical streaming romance. I wouldn't categorise this as a rom-com, even though it features several tropes. I actually think it could have been a little longer, mostly to show Solene slowly understanding that people of Hayes' age live in a completely different world. Because that's a reality that all millennials feel when they try to communicate with Zoomers.

The “Hayes Campbell is not me” line did nothing for Hayes. The movie doesn’t show him being anything else. We don’t see him being particularly caring towards others, doing charities, working with disabled children or being a part of mental health support groups as a guy who experienced fame early and struggles with everything that comes with it like low self esteem or feelings of unworthiness. If anything, his character falls in the same tropes that make him forgettable. To get a woman’s attention, he buys all items in her gallery, flies her out to his concerts to be his personal escort. He is not particularly kind to his fans either and ignores them when they get excited to see him at the red light scene. When Paparazzis start hounding Solene house and the dad shows up, he very arrogantly talks about security adding extra cameras instead of taking in consideration the psychological impact the situation might have on people unaccustomed to such level of harassment and scrutiny. There is no clear motive for him pursuing an older woman except that he met her unconventionally and she is “hot or whatever” although he actually seems to like her. We don’t see him do any special acts of love either for Solene except leaving his expensive watch over and over and buying that art piece for her. No flowers, no special cards, no reminders of little things she said or that they did together etc. The whole movie was mid at best honestly. I don’t usually go this hard on rom-coms because I accept them for what they are but this one actually annoyed me. I also felt like besides the great chemistry Anne H and Galitzine had, she was not the actress for this role. I kept wondering why she was in this because she is so much better than doing a movie about dating a guy 16 years younger than her. Also, what kind of 40 years old is this comfortable dating a guy almost the age of her daughter? We saw her struggle a bit about this and being conflicted so that part was good but she also ran back to the guy just to break up with him again when she saw the impact on her daughter but didn’t consider it earlier.. Also, her only motive for continuing the relationship seemed to be that her ex broke her heart and Hayes was a bit of freedom and tingles (which are all valid btw) but what else did he really bring to her life? Im still looking. I watched the whole movie with an open mind but boy, was I more and more annoyed. I think this movie would have been better if it focused more on the genuine and positive impact the love they felt for each other had on their respective lives to justify the relationship. Anyway, just my opinion🤷🏾‍♀️

Two things: Hayes grows as a character. In the beginning he buys all the art to impress her and she does tell him off for it. That he isn’t valuing these artists. But later he buys the one piece of art that makes her feel everything. I also think him leaving the watch in the beginning as an excuse to see each other again was cute but I loved the symbolism of him leaving it at the end. Literally giving her time

Honestly as a woman wouldn’t object, just make it a young girl met Jon Bon Jovi in his crush era( better known as the it’s my life era) . The young fan got in his dressing room trailer and from then the romance starts, we could have it set it in the early 00s. I’m tempted to write that fan fiction and see if someone wants to turn it into a movie. Instead of a boy band we have a rock band. Imagine so a movie with 00s nostalgia.
