When Ganon was sealed underground, we know that Calamity Ganon had to have come out of him and would possibly roam the Depths. This would explain why the spirit of Link has to be reincarnated into a race that was dealing with that Calamity. This Link could have risen to the surface and both he and the princess would have brought the other races together to seal him away.

Love this theory. And what if, the lomei found the master sword in the depths, being the ancient hero the one who found it? Knowing its part of a prophecy and then defeating the calamity, the lomei/zonai now can live in the surface because of their services to the kingdom.

This is certainly getting somewhere interesting! Something I want to say though is that the ancient hero we see isn't the same as how he looked when he was alive. The aspect morphs to fit Link's body so some things might be off about him. Also, it's very interesting how we get the armor too. If the shrines of exercism were made before even Zelda got to the past then the aspect shouldn't be given in the way it was. Unless, someone of particular knowledge of the inner workings of those shrine came in and added a few lines and maybe a puzzle beforehand (maybe not with the puzzle though) and went to the still active, but soon to be abandoned great skyland to place that there.

I love this. What if the depths zonai, the Lomei, are the later zonai that lived in Faron? Possibly around the time of the first great calamity. Thats why hylians saw them as barbarians, and look at the horns of the barbarian armor. Red hair too. I have another theory about the lomei being Hard miners, mining so deep that they literally found the Master Sword in the depths, but that implies that the zonai past happens after all the timelines specially adult hero timeline.

Because of the tablets Josha collected depicting them following a Zonai (Rauru?), I always imagined the Lomei had a sort of symbiotic relationship with the Zonai. Maybe they would excavate Zonaite for them in exchange for Zonai tech?

True and given appearance, the Lomei would have subterrain qualities such as the large eyes to see in the dark and with less fur and more mole like skin. Including if the Zonai were mining for hundreds of years some physical appearance may change in the new depths environment.

This explains explains why in BotW, the Zonai are often credited for the ruins in the Faron region but aligning them with the Lomei makes more sense! I never considered the Lomei could be the sub species, and the color scheme in the tapestry matches the aspect too!

It's also possible that this "hero" is the idea of link that zelda was selling to the various factions to get them to unite to fight Gannon. None of them had any idea of what he looked like and zelda would probably just give an exaggerated and romanticized version while leaving out details you wouldn't think to add like him having bond hair instead of "hair that radiates in the sunlight like a bacon of hope" or even just not being covered in fur

It gave me that vibe too! What if the majority of the Zonai were oppressive enslavers towards the "lesser" ground races (esp. Hylians) whereas Rauru treated them as equals, somewhat dissenting against his species's superiority complex, and that's why they accepted him as King after the other Zonai fucked off to who knows where (or died...) We know Zonai have no problem with forced labor (constructs, performing their duties endlessly, Rauru even says it kind of freaks him out on the GSI so he, at least, evidently has a problem with it... even if the other Zonai probably didn't... Or it's possible he led the Hylians in a revolt and they accepted him as King? It's far-fetched, but damn, would it make for a great ao3 fic) but evidently SOMEONE had to mine the zonaite to make the constructs before the constructs began mining for themselves...

Disagree. Think of it this way: the reason why chains are a big punk aesthetic is that some of the most hardcore, homeless, and roaming punks would do a ton of train-hopping and and they needed something to secure themselves to the outside of a moving car, so they added chains to their coats and pants. That's what we're dealing with here, I assume - miners lashing themselves to the side of Zonai vehicles while traveling to and from mining sites.

The details and secrets and lore hidden in the game is what really will keep people coming back until Nomoura figures out what he wants to do for the next Zelda. it's clever on his part, cause I honestly want to believe these details are very akin to like writing a real life religious text, clues that can lead to a conclusion without definitive answers. and it's kind of up to us fans to put the pieces together and come to our own conclusions.

Really like where you're going with this. Bull mostly fits but I think would make more sense if its their motif since if the hero, mining gear and statues are related a defining aspect was not them having horns naturally based on the evidence. Also a fair thing to point out is the overall carnivorous beast nature of the hero with full on paws and claws (the fact they aren't retracted may lean more canid) a lion like tail and a dog like muzzle of course there are plenty of strange things still and hope to see what you have in store for us next!

I think the lomei are actually a separate tribe who wore the barbarian armor and came to hyrule way before the Zonai. I think they use red technology and despite their beast and barbaric like appearance, they’re friendly. I do hope we get a TOTK sequel where the lomei and ancient hero are revealed to be connected and that we could finally go beyond hyrule

@@jockson7574 Well, I believe their reason for stating that is because they ran out of ideas for this time era. With that being said and the reception of TOTK, I don't think they'll change their minds on it. HOWEVER! I have heard speculation that the next Hyrule Warriors game will be TOTK based which would be cool and could do what you hope the sequel could do. Additionally, there could possibly be DLC for TOTK at some point or a bundle in the future if the they put TOTK on a new Nintendo console. Also, there are possibilities that it could get covered in a game not being a sequel to TOTK. For example, OOT Link was shown to have lived the rest of his life being a knight of Hyrule. That was shown in TP, So you may still get what you want. I just don't think they'll make BOTW a trilogy.

@@Godongo yes I believe that we could an age of calamity sequel based on the upheaval in the present and imprisoning war in the past. Maybe it could still be Terrako or some baby construct that involves time travel. And yes I could see a TOTK free update for the switch or they make a DX version for the switch 2 with new additional content. As much as I’d want beyond hyrule in a totk Dx I think it would be saved for a sequel cause they’ve hinted it with yona, master kohga, and the Zonai shrines. I also would want a BOTW DX with new content for the switch 2 as there are rumors for a BOTW remastered and new content would be legendary. I have a whole story for a totk sequel if you wanna hear it. Plus we need a game based on red and age of calamity doesn’t count because malice hurts link.

Considering that after the zonai disappeared from the land of hyrule there was a tribe of barbarians that existed that created a different set of structures based on the zonai structures its stand to reason that aafter the zonai disappeared the lomei were the next ruling powers and after they had gone the barbarians came next but were driven to extinction from a lack of adaptability and coexistence with the other races of hyrule

If that's the case then the Lomei would exist during the 10K era, and thus the labyrinths were probably also built during that era. Meaning the Phantom Ganon armor was probably also placed there during that era.

What about the fact that each Labyrinth represents one piece of the Triforce? The text that comes up when you beat them refers to the animal corresponding to their respective piece: Boar for power, Wolf for courage, and Owl for wisdom. So I think that the Goddesses were the ones who actually made the labyrinths, and entrusted the Lomei to protect them. Although I'm not sure how they obtained Phantom Ganon's armor from OoT

i once saw a theory, i forgot who made it, that the ancient hero was some kind of weird fusion of a zonai, gerudo, and maybe hylian (it's been a good while since i've watched the theory so i dont remember everything exactly) but tldr it was something along the lines of: rauru's body had started to decay and eventually disconnected from his arm, so in a gamble to bring some facet of himself back to life Ganondorf pretty much took over the body which twisted it to look more humanoid but still have some zonai features crossed with gerudo. then this fusion basically had an identity crisis between the Ganondorf and rauru sides of its creation, the good in it won the "battle" and it picked up the master sword and became that figure that vaguely matches its description in the tapestry sort of becoming an "unofficial link"

The only thing that frustrates me is that the statues down below and the ancient hero share most of the same characteristics, but the statue lacks hair, a lion tail, and has a hunchback. Not sure if they're the same race, but it's weird that Nintendo would introduce the Zonai this game and imply one or two more unknown races without plans to elaborate further.

My thoughts are that the next mainline botw-esque game (since technically we have echoes of wisdom coming out) will take place in the past, since botw and totk have been theorized to be spiritual remakes of zelda 1 and 2 respectfully, which means its quite possible that the next one will be a spiritual remake of link to the past, where link goes into a parallel dark world (similar to the depths) and gains the form of that similar to a rabbit or other beast

The underground seemed like it would have been a harsh place to live at id like to imagine that the link of this era was a miner when his mine was attacked by gannons dariness which began flodding the place and they managed to narrowly escape to where he met zelda/was saved by her and more or less began following her like a lost puppy,because all he knew was his slave like life underground and he saw her as well his new master a nicer one at that eventually coming to his own as the hero of hyrule

The problem with this is... Didn't the Ancient Hero happen before Rauru and Sonia were even specs in the universe? He's even older than both of them. Which means that the ruins in Faron are even older than Rauru and Sonia as well, cause we know for a fact they're even older than the upheaved ruins. The ancient princess *can't* be a descendant of Rauru and Sonia. And the Ancient Hero is likely a Zonai of Faron. Which makes sense, cause the Zonai definitely represent courage and Faron has the spring of courage as well.

Its insane too that we'll never even get a follow up on this or answers of any sort, it almost screams of cut content or something though, like why did that one specific design on the mural get an outfit and its the final one no less? It's almost as if that person is just the actual original very first Link or something, that he wasn't first a hylian but instead one of these, and through time and bloodlines the one that would be reincarnated or chosen or what have you became hylian instead, much how like Rauru was with Sonia and that seemingly went on to be Zelda's bloodline?

I believe he is like a dragon hybrid. The eyes of the hero resemble the one of the dragons the fur on the tail is on the same position where the dragons have it. You can also see where the secret stone was placed.

I think there are some clear characteristics that possibly link this guy to Ganondorf, the red hair, the gem socketed in the forehead. Links sleeve has some gerudo like symbols on them that match the Dusk Claymore (Ganondorfs sword) almost perfectly.

Lomei translating to maze, I think that means that the place is a maze, I don't think this theory holds up well. The ancient hero carries Zonai and Hylian traits, and given the time gap I'd assume that with each generation this bloodline looked more and more hylian and less and less zonai, cause it looks like a cross between the two. POTENTIALLY the red hair could be from a gerudo, which I did not consider until now given how gerudo and hylian tend to create gerudos, or they just wanted it to fully tie in eith the mural.

If so, then why did it had another labyrinth both the sky and the depths? And in my theory… what if it was the Mogma AND the Lomei that build the depths structures, why they made the mines and hid various clothing treasures and weapons? And since they had various recourses of raw Zonai minerals… it would make sense they both co-exists and hide their treasures and weapons. And why Edin mountain had those statues around pointing the next hidden labyrinth and abandoned mines. It’s just my theory

What about the barbarians? In botw you can get the barbarian armor from the labyrinths right? Where did they come from?

I really like speculating like that, but I don't think Nintendo went that far Maybe the tapestry represents a Zonai, despite the fact they're extinct This piece of information may not have been well-developed when BotW came out, and a little plothole isn't that hard to imagine when TotK released I still wish something actually cool is revealed but I highly doubt Nintendo would think this much about the tapestry I hope I'm wrong, though!

What about the magma people from skyward sword we still have no idea what happened to them nor if it is possible that they evolved to look more like that

In TOTK Ganondorf remarks how Rauru and Mineru are the last of the Zonai. So how could this Ancient Hero from about 10,000 years after the Imprisoning War during the First Calamity at the technological apex of Sheikah be another type of Zonai? Also, TOTK made it clear the Zonai decended to the surface from civilization in the sky. Wouldn't the "Lomei" be related to those orginal Zonai as well? Or if the Lomei existed at all, perhaps they weren't Zonai and simply a race that originated and live in the depth and worked with the Bargainers? There's is no evidence to support any of this. Based on in-game evidence there also no evidence to thoroughly explain who the Ancient Hero was. TOTK seems to be a retcon with some environmental nostalgia and lore baiting thrown (Skyward Sword and Twilight Princess) in by Nintendo. The storyline and the "lore" is full of holes, inconsistencies, and contradictions that make little sense if one is trying to establish canon with the other games and so called "timeline".
