If you live in a temperate climate and winterkill isn't an issue, then yes, flower carpet roses can grow that big if not hard pruned during the spring. Gorgeous rose, BTW!! 🌹🇨🇦

Hi Jay Jay I’m a huge supporter living in the USA and once I saw your videos I became completely in love with Rose but mostly the David Austin, Kordes, and any rose with huge blooms, unique beauty to them, quarters or colors that stand out. I pray that one day I can visit rose gardens all around the globe but the English Gardens are my favorite. If you have time could you email to send you cuttings from some American roses.

Hi Tom, yes it is a lovely rose and performance wise it’s second to none in my garden. Sunset carpet is a rose I haven’t heard of but I know there are many in that collection of roses. Regarding the seedlings I have already taken many cuttings from this rose and it roots super easy. Ive given them all away and are all doing very well in their new homes. Best of luck with yours ;)

It's called Heidetraum in Germany/Austria! Planted it bare root in a half barrel this year and it has absolutely exploded! I don't know if I should move it next year, because it seems a shame to prune it down. Hands down the healthiest rose in my garden, and still flowering when everything else has started settling down for the autumn.
@Jay_Jay
@Jay_Jay Жыл бұрын
Hi Katrina, this rose here I do know is also bare root. The former resident of the house next door was a renown gardener in the area and she grew her own roses bare root from cuttings she had taken. I grew several roses from this plant and if your growing one in a half barrel I know it will spread and cascade down the sides (aswell as growing upwards) so it’s up to you how you prune it. But a magnificent performing rose and I believe German in origin. Noack are the breeders I believe. Thank you for the information and best of luck with yours ;)

Hi Michelle and well spotted. Yes I don’t see how many people don’t realise this (including me who dismissed the idea ) if left it will 100 percent climb aswell as spread. The one you see here is growing as a rambling type climber up my neighbours fence. How tall is yours? And thanks for the update I will change the title. ;)

Not sure why but my reply didn’t save and if it did, apologies for the duplicate! I’ve only had mine for two seasons and only this season in the ground. It is about 2’ tall and 6-7’ wide. I may try some white ones out on the hell strip. Definitely the healthiest and most trouble free rose out of the 90 I have. Would also recommend it to anyone who doesn’t have the time to maintain roses on a regular basis. I’m in Coastal Southern California so ymmv..

@@Michelle-tn4bj wow thank you Michelle. Since making this video it appears there is a version of this rose called climbing or plus added to its name. But I don’t know if it’s all the same actual variety. It all comes under the “pink flower carpet ground cover” category and I know people have bought it for ground cover and it’s actually climbing for them if left and it’s canes elevated as it grows. So please do keep us updated. And so glad to hear it’s doing well in Southern California. A magnificent rose. Thank you

Hi Marilyn yes the neighbour inherited from an old lady who use to live there. She died several years ago but was and still is a much celebrated gardener with an annual gardening competition in her name. We knew the rose was an own root that she propagated but outside of that we knew nothing. I’ve no doubt she saw this rose flowering at this time of year perhaps, and decided it was good enough for her garden. :)

Hi Hailey great to hear from you. Hope you are well. Yes this is the rose. I read it’s the worlds most popular rose? If your neighbour doesn’t know the identity well this is what I’ve found. Has it grown as big as this? I read online if it’s not cut back hard it will continue to grow tall. But as you can see still Continue to perform.

I will take a quick video at the weekend so you can see. They really do look amazing and always make me thing I bet they are similar in health and flower power to the American knockout roses

Hi There is a rose called Heidetraum, which grows up to about 1 m, has won several prizes ( worldrose 2022, ADR 1990 +2021), extremely healthy , blooming a long time and theres also Heidetraum plus, which is a climbing rose, up to 3 m, which got also several prizes (goldenrose 2017, ADR 2014). Both from Noack. In Switzerland they are quite common and often planted in public parks because they are so healthy and dont need much maintenance. The only missing thing is fragrance.
@Jay_Jay

Hi and thank you. Yes since making the video this was pointed out. But I’m not positive the ground cover version isn’t the same rose as the climber in a similar way to Gertrude which can be grown as a climber or shrub depending on how it is pruned. Either way a 1m tall rose can be so much more than a ground cover rose. I have heard of people growing this ground cover variant and it’s turned into a climber for them hence my confusion. But a fantastic performing rose :) and thank you.

YaY ! well done Jay Jay. Mystery solved haha I know the feeling well - only Sophie is still a mystery to me 🤔 I said on your previous Next Door's Rose vid you did that there is a climbing Flower Carpet rose that it could be. I think I've inherited one too! I call it Norma' rose, the lady who lived here, but it's a dead ringer for Flower Carpet :)

Hi Linda yes really sorry about not giving you a gold star also. I’ll make it up to you in a future vid. :) I must have dismissed it because I knew I had already done some research on flower carpet and failed to find one that grew more than 2ft in height as advertised. There are a couple of KZbin videos on it kinda waist height but they all get pruned down hard to encourage the spread across the ground. Your gorgeous girl I’m sure sooner or later you will get a name. You’ll spot one sooner or later and be knocking on doors same as me :) mine was perhaps easier as it’s so prolific flowering still at this time of year. But you’ll get there I’m sure :)

@@Jay_Jay No need for a star I'm just chuffed you know what it is now 'cos when I don't know the ID of a rose it bugs me too ! The sites that sell climbing Flower Carpet say it grows from 1.8m to some saying 3.6 metres so anything goes ! The one in my garden is a cutting I took last year and it has flowered non stop I put it in the no dig bed and it's still full of flower now 🤩 I may have to move it in time, if it gets too big for it's boots in there. So happy you know what it is now 👍🌹

Wow this last comment got me surfing the web. I never knew a climbing version existed from retailers. Heidatrum I think is the name given to it from breeders Noack. They say that rose grows to 70-80 cm. I cannot find a climbing rose version on there particular website but I have emailed them asking just that. At present I’m unsure if it’s the same rose that can climb OR spread depending on how it’s pruned. Or if there is a separate climbing version. I have seen on the web people have bought it as ground cover but it’s now climbing up there house. Those long canes meant to be sprawling across the ground but are being trained upwards to climb. I see now it’s sold as a climber elsewhere but I’m interested to now know if it’s the same rose. :)
@Jay_Jay

Linda Linda Linda you were right all along. Noack got back to me they did say there is a climbing version called heidetraum PLUS. But didn’t say if it was the same variety of rose (like a climbing or shrub Gertrude for instance). The confusion being I’ve seen people buy the ground cover version and it’s climbing for them. I think possibly all the flower carpet range are said to be (or assumed to be) ground cover roses but perhaps the climbing version has a different growing habit. I’ve adjusted the description as best I can but I will try and clear this up in a future video as it gets confusing. Thanks once again and sorry for completely disregarding and tossing away your invaluable words 😂😂😂. Thanks Linda x x

@@Jay_Jay haha you're so sweet I'm just throwing out best guesses like everyone else. I have checked helpmefind site in the past for a climbing registered variety but can't see one. The Heidetraume you mention is also registered as a shrub to 4' approx. along with the other patents and trade names like Pink Veil and Floral Carpet and Emera but none of them are registered as 'climbers' but I found many online sites selling it as a climber. EDIT: Sorry, I missed 'plus' off when I was searching. 'Hiedetraum Plus' Emera Grimpant and NOA907500IS are registered as a climbers with height range given as : 6'7" to 11½' (200 to 350cm). A sport of Heidetraum. Mystery solved, well done 👏

0:39 It looks like what we here in the USA call a rambler rose. Except that ramblers finish up here around late July. Also the term "rambler" is quite vague. 0:55 , there you go, a "ground cover rose" what we call a rambler rose , yours is blooming extremely late for a rambler though. 4:16 For the past 5 or so years, my focus in how to give various plants what they need to thrive has led me to think/say that the closer that we come to giving the plant the environment that it has in it's native land, the better that it shall thrive. After 5 years of this, I then began to realize, that much of the surreal, glorious plants that we grow never even existed in the environment of the plants nativity. I began to realize that much of what we grow are recessive gene types, recessive because they don't even have what is needed to survive in their native habitat. Therefore, these plants are afflicted with many things. It appears to me that the Red Carpet rambler rose that you are explaining to us is a dominant plant type. Dominant because it "thrives on neglect". Whereas, recessive gene type would long ago have succumbed to mildew, or insects, or any number of things. Therefore, many of our most soul meltingly beautiful plants must be babied, fussed over, fungicided, pesticided etc. etc. because they lack what is needed to be strong survivors. 7:53 Oh wow! Elegant dog. The favored companion of the Art Nouveau, 1890s ladies. ... also Art Deco, Edwardian, the tall, slender, chic ladies loved to be seen with their tall, lean, elegant whippets. 8:48 Yes, we MUST have electric fence around our vegetable garden or the deer would devour everything. Although your whippet may have a bad experience with electric fence.

Crazy that you can grow a ground cover rose as a standard. "Ground cover" and "carpet" seems a huge misnormer. I have put in Flower Carpet Amber and think it may be a mistake as it is needed to be low growing.

Hi English. This time of year if you see a vibrant heavy flowering rose a cerise pink especially if it’s been left alone to grow tall and wide you won’t miss it. They say it’s the worlds most popular rose although that I’m not convinced. But I do see it growing in localised spots. As I suggested in the video if you see one chances are you’ll see more in that area. This rose growing in a neighbourhood isn’t something that would get missed by anyone green fingered. So usually cuttings are taken from the local donor rose hence seeing 3,4, 7 all in close proximity ;)

Hi there. Scent can be a very complex thing and be different for different people on different days. Rose mum in a million and rose Jasmina both radiate and project fragrance better than any other rose I have in my garden. I can smell them both a long distance away. And on there day often the most intense. But remember that’s for my nose in my garden on most days (but not all.) The most pleasant if asking here and now I would suggest boscobel. I really do like that fragrance. Bliss Parfuma is also a fragrance I find very pleasant. Hope this helps but scent can be a very complex thing and be different for different people on different days.
