I think the reason is because healthcare such as medicine are incredibly overpriced in the us. As an example, last year I was diagnosed with a life threatening blood clotting disorder and was put on xeralto. Where I live this medication costs about 30 euros(I live outside the us) which is already quite pricey for a basically for a monthly Dosis. Out of curiosity I was checking how much that same medication would cost in the us and without medicare/ insurance it costs a whooping 600 dollars. It’s absolutely insane. It’s basically halved with gap support but damn man 300 bucks for blood thinners is insane.

I’m a makeup artist with training in skincare and worked in cosmetic retail, the amount of like 11-14 year old kids that would try convince their parents to buy them a $90 bottle of retinol that could literally cause chemical burns was COUNTLESS. Kids wouldn’t listen to me when I tried to explain it to them so I’d appeal to their parents and like 99.9% of the time they’d be grateful that someone with real training was willing to inform them about these products and how they should be used by people in their 30’s and up. I didn’t have a skincare routine until I was about 14/15 but with my mums advice because I had acne and she literally just bought me a nutrogena cleanser from the grocery store haha. But It scares me how many kids are using upwards of 20 products per day and they don’t even know what’s in them or what they do, there needs to be mediation or something in place so kids aren’t buying these products designed for adults.

I remember a few years back there was a similar problem with cosmetic products brought on eBay and Wish, people got really bad chemical burns from knock off products that were advertised as makeup influencers and other big brand products. The lip burns were specially terrifying. If you are going to risk buying cosmetics online ALWAYS test the product on your hand first or even better save up for another week and buy the real thing.

Scams go BOTH WAYS! I have an ebay shop and I've dealt with scam buyers that straight up lie saying they didn't receive an item or that I sent them something entirely different. Ebay is ALWAYS geared towards the buyer, so you're always forced into a refund no matter how much evidence you have that it's a lie.

I actually took out my stuff on TT Shop. The idea I'm selling crystals and have to ship within a three day period if not the buyer gets shit for free is a no for me. I put all of my boxes together carefully with cards and other free gifts I'd like to include so customers will see they can try other products and if they like it they will buy it. I couldn't even sell my soap I buy from a wholesale vendor (who's certified in making soap for retail) claiming the ingredients didn't meet their guidelines, even after sharing the wholesale vendor with them. I don't use TikTok at all but this shit is why I put everything on my cc so I can get my money back if I'm charged incorrectly. I had a place charge me tax on a product that was not supposed to be taxed and I was like um if this was taxed and this is not taxable where is my money going? So I contacted my bank and got that exact amount back that I was taxed but paid for the item itself. Lesson being if you have a cc use it over a debit card to protect yourself from losing money not only from scams, but just everyday life.

I’ve only bought a handful of items from Tik Tok shop but they all came from two small Tik Tok live shop sellers. The first creator had good quality leather purses/bags for relatively cheap. The second creator sold an assortment of things but was always so kind! She regularly sent extra gifts with my order and even wrote me a handwritten note with her condolences when my father was in the hospital in a coma. I will say although my experience was relatively good with Tik Tok Shop, there is a lot of scams going on, not to mention the constant ads. I once had a shop ad every other video but thing is I hadn’t even used the shop in over like 2 years 💀

A funny thing is, my mom actually bought a ring from tiktok ad. It was a sun and moon ring that could split in two. It was a really small ring that wouldn't even fit a child's finger, lol. As soon as my mom tried to contact the seller, she found out she had been blocked by them and wasn't able to get a refund. She wasted 34 euros or something like that. Luckily, after that incident, I've never seen the ad of that ring ever again. It probably got removed or something, I don't really know.

Tik tok has some decent finds (mainly because there’s actual sellers on there and if you pair reputable sellers with their discounts it’s cheap for a good product), but a there’s a lot of incredibly low quality products, broken products, reps (sold as the real product), and blatant rip offs of more expensive products. Personally I’ve seen this predominantly with cologne, but it’s a massive issue with the clothes as well.

Scammers make me so mad, especially when scams are so common that it messes with stuff that isn't a scam. Those stupid scammers are the reason that I missed an invite to an art exhibition, I thought it was a scam and didn't find out it wasn't until after the deadline. I know it's partially my fault because I didn't fact check sooner, but it was my business email and if a scammer got ahold of it, it could've put my career at risk.

reminds me of when i lost like 130 dollars to a fake website when trying to buy something. gave me the fake tracking number and then the website disappeared and didn't exist anymore, but the site was still available on my mom's phone when i asked her for help. it was a fake site that had the exact same name as the real one and looked the same too the only difference was, they added an "s" at the end and i didn't notice. never got the money back either. super suspicious of anywhere i shop from now and haven't had problems since :(
