Fun fact: The police are very lenient about speeding in Japan. I regularly go 60kmph in 40kmph zones on my moped that isn't supposed to go faster than 30kmph

Based on engine sound, It sounds like 6 or 4 cylinder engine. Common drift cars with 6/4 engines are Nissan 350z, 370z, Silvia Models, RWD skylines, Infinity G35, G37, Mazda Miatas or it could be even Supra. GT-R's are not the most popular drift cars since it has complicated AWD system and Requires Big Balls to actually swing that thing( the car). But Hey that's just a theory, A CAR theory. Im a car guy myself and one thing I know is that street racers could easily out speed cops depending on what they have under the hood. But the only reason why they don't run in japan is because they got cameras everywhere and if they were to run away, they would be in bigger trouble.

It just happens when you get very familiar with cars, you can easily know the car just from the sound. For me it sounds more like a 1JZ engine which was used in many Toyotas, most likely they were JZX body cars (Chaser, Mark II or Cresta) which are very popular drift cars.

On a more serious note: I live in a suburban home that is literally across the street from a highway, and I hear those sounds a few times a week in the late evening. Also, every few weeks someone likes to to do burnout doughnuts at the nearest intersection at 2 AM in the morning. One night I walked out my front door after one of these, and got hit with a pretty strong stench of burning rubber. One of the best days of my life to be sure.

This is classic! I used to do the same thing here in Houston, watching and waiting for the street races in their highly modified cars to get arrested.. American protocol in highly populated areas is to let them go. It's to dangerous to chase unless they have warrants. However...the street racers here with JDM imported cars are criminals. I hate them with a passion...it's because they are ex military and we're stationed in japan and we're smuggling illegal things in and out of japan. They also prided themselves on sexually used Japanese women out of racial hate. Eventually some Japanese from here and chiba started to track them. These were Japanese that carred and were upset these guys hurt the women and hurt Japan in sick racially motivated ways..
