Zen is short for sarzen I'm pretty sure, sar means seated or sitting and zen means meditation so seated meditation.

Hi. I liked the "driving a car" analogy, it becomes second nature, like flying on "automatic pilot". Habituated thoughts, words, actions, and relationships, that do not need constant conscious monitoring. Like a married couple who've been happily married many years, and don't need to discuss everything, they just "know" what their partner's thinking. They have become "as one" with each other. I enjoy zen principles and generally approach life this way... finding it harder to do lately though, as I see people pulling this planet through their ... its torture watching mother nature withering away, raped and pillaged by humans for selfish gain. I never though I would witness the absolute destruction of this natural word in my lifetime. Our unique planet, the only one we could find that supports life, doesn't matter how far we send our probes into the cosmos. Yet civilization doesn't grasp it. Every day that goes by one more species is closer to extinction at human hands... how do you approach this malice in a mad world the zen way?

Dozen (Of God) is a one word explanation of Zen. The dodecahedron is Zen as one facet .. IMO Twelve is used in the Bible dozens of times. In the last supper Jesus shares the time with the complete group of 12. He is the thirteenth sign and complete in himself. @@bengrahamvandersandt2477 When a mind is in turmoil, not understanding itself or the world around it and therefore feeling lost, overwhelmed and depressed, it can certainly distract itself from this turmoil by losing itself in some self-congratulatory "mission", yes. That's the ego wanting an escape and to big itself up again. You should NOT mislead lost minds with this childish escapism and some new subtle form of egotism. Such minds need to stop, calm down, quiet down and observe themselves and their total relationship to the world. Only when a mind is really at peace and understands itself and life can one then help society. However much you may trick yourself into thinking you're some sort of justice warrior, you're always, in some form or other, going to end up causing more conflict, more problems and making everything worse, however subtly. It's profoundly complex. Don't push your aggressive do-gooder agendas on poor lost minds like that, you're causing more harm than you realize. Be quiet and watch and understand yourself fully before trying to help anyone.
