"emotional abuse is glorified in our culture" Absolutely !! In the name of "respect your elders" sometimes we forget that the young ones deserve respect too.

After hearing the stories of mothers mistreating their children because of their own unresolved issues I suddenly have huge respect for women who choose to remain childfree. What’s the point of having kids and making them go through trauma which they didn’t ask for

What's the point of being alive then? It's a personal decision IMHO. Childhood is a precious time so we must preserve it, we try and fail and succeed. That is life!

@@dharswatIt is a personal decision - one that demands huge accountability and compassion. To bring a child into this world knowing well that she would suffer from intergenerational trauma atleast is selfish. There is nothing for the baby in it. It is neither compassionate nor thoughtful. You might want to read up on antinatalism.

@anshumansaraf7546 : Yes, absolutely! There are plenty of children who need our attention, in conflict zones, or in our neighborhoods. And, there is no playbook for parenting. Do what feels right for you. But, at the same time, I'm thankful for being brought into this world by my parents and despite challenges being given a more than privileged life. Having a child biologically is not a feat. Anyone can do it. But if we really care for children, we can manifest that feeling in bringing real-world change for those children who really need it. Dwelling in the past trauma and not realizing that my present and possibly my future is slipping away is IMO not the smartest way to live. I'm just thankful to be alive and have the conviction to support children wherever I can. Good luck!

"Trauma gets passed on generation to generation" -- this is a great insight and agree with you 100% !!

The topic has been brought up in a really summarised way and its good to see there is someone bringing the topic up in public and is really willing to work upon it with the masses. Most of the time what happens is these topics are not even realised and even if realised to some extent, they are swept and hidden under the carpet . This issue with the population needs to be addressed .

Riri Trivedi is so amazing. It infuriates me when parents force their kids to have kids just for the heck of it, I'm glad we can make the informed choice and heal our inner demons and only have kids when we are ready.

I chose to not have children as i was carrying SO much within myself and I knew i would NOT be able to guide a child. I love children and yet never felt i could do justice to a child and with my own unresolved issues, i would have burdened my own child...as my emotional support system was and IS non existent. Live alone but learning to love humanity for all its issues...from a distance
