Wonderful reminder of clarifying for the patient why we go into the transference. Another helpful video; thank you, Patricia!

Dr. Coughlin. Thank you so much for these videos they are really helpful in clarifying in advancing knowledge on istdp. Would you be willing to do a video discussing character defenses and character armor? I'm reading your 2017 book the second go-round to study and on page 94 which references character defenses in character armor. It sounds like character defenses are essentially an array of tactical, repressive, and regressive defenses that have become highly syntonic. Thus solidifying the character armor which finally formulates the pervasive personality trait or PD proper & fueling superego pathology no matter where the PT is on a spectrum from psychoneurotic to fragile? If I'm following the concept correctly?

I could never tell my therapist I have erotic feelings for her. I would rather just stop therapy.

Thank you! I am in the first year of my specialty (in germany) and this video really helps with understanding how to work with transference. I am wondering how the therapist might be feeling during the time when the transference is starting to become more clear during the sessions, especially in regard to "positive" transference?

Hi Patricia, just wondering if talking about the corrective emotional experience you could explain whether the UTA plays a role in facilitating it, and if so how. Thanks

I will be talking about this in the next video. I think the UTA and the corrective emotional experience are two different things.
