I think we as a country have gotten our priorities so out of sync these past few years. We want to look at problems as though they’re democrat or Republican problems. We want to be quick to point the finger of blame and say haha, before we realize that these problems effect everyone in this country, not just one side or the other. The saying “a country divided amongst itself cannot stand” is holding very true for us right now. I have never seen a time in my life where so many relied on their political party for their identity. Gun culture, along with so many other things in this country need to have a major narrative shift. People need to stop looking at guns as a means of killing others. We need to stop looking at our political system as only a way to stick it to the other side. I think we can all agree that things not getting done in our political system has become common. But if we keep up like this, we’re always going to be in a stalemate with whichever side is in power and that will have major repercussions for everyone. Let’s start working together people and realize our problems and actually solve them.
@devastatinglogic62522 жыл бұрын
Hi Adam, One reason why people don't start working together is because there is no shortage of disagreement about what "our problems" actually are, to say nothing of what "our solutions" might even be. A person isn't likely to invest the effort to work, together or individually, on a proposed idea that (s)he disagrees with. I don't see how such disagreements are avoidable, on the issue of guns or on any other issue. You use terms such as "divided", "blame", "stick it", and "stalemate", however, so is there a way to show tolerance for an incalculable number of disagreements without creating, say, division? At what point, would you say, does disagreement NECESSARILY become division? I find nothing wrong with mere disagreement, I even celebrate the freedom to disagree -- not that you don't. You seem bothered by division though, so at what point of escalation does a disagreement begin to bother you?
@immanuela2092 жыл бұрын
@@devastatinglogic6252 I know it wasn’t directed towards me, but for me personally, it’s when said disagreement leads to no sort of compromise being achieved for either side’s issues. It means nothing to have a discussion if no sort of meaningful change comes out of it.

Obstinance and fixation are regressive traits. If someone can't explain their position beyond "it's mine," they usually don't have a real position, you know, with words and stuff. Gun control is an emotional issue. A lot of people even associate their personal identity with all this weaponry, which means any doubt against guns is a doubt against them. Since it's such an emotional issue, they're clearly not thinking straight or logically.

Since the Constitution states a "well regulated militia", why don't we require everyone to serve in the National Guard for two or three years and then grant them the right to own a gun.
@CRanapia2 жыл бұрын
Uh, because that's the wrong answer to the wrong question. Here's the right one: Does the 2nd Amendment still make a lick of sense in the 21st Century America that hasn't been a largely agrarian country that was barely a generation away from being colonial subjects of the British Empire, and didn't have a standing dedicated army, for a very very long time? If America could repeal Prohibition, and introduce constitutional amendments to abolish human slavery AND grant women the right to vote, it's not beyond the realm of possibility to say the 2nd Amendment is no longer fit for use.
@patr53192 жыл бұрын
Because it's quite clear that the founding fathers meant that the "militia" of that time meant every able bodied adult in the US. Frankly, I'd have no problem with your requirement but the "National Guard" these days doesn't really do much Guarding as much as they are fighting the same illegal and unethical wars overseas like the rest of our military. I shouldn't have to partake in atrocities against brown people in order to earn my second amendment rights.
@OrangeGuyBlows2 жыл бұрын
first off you might want to research what that meant at the time....here i will help you : What is a militia? At the time of the American Revolutionary War, militias were groups of able-bodied men who protected their towns, colonies, and eventually states. "[When the Constitution was drafted], the militia was a state-based institution," says Rakove. "States were responsible for organizing this." What did it mean to be well regulated? One of the biggest challenges in interpreting a centuries-old document is that the meanings of words change or diverge. "Well-regulated in the 18th century tended to be something like well-organized, well-armed, well-disciplined," says Rakove. "It didn't mean 'regulation' in the sense that we use it now, in that it's not about the regulatory state. There's been nuance there. It means the militia was in an effective shape to fight." In other words, it didn't mean the state was controlling the militia in a certain way, but rather that the militia was prepared to do its duty. constitutioncenter.org/images/uploads/news/CNN_Aug_11.pdf

They just really adore seeing someone die they dislike." I was pretty shocked by this statement and whenever I come across discussions about gun violence in the US this comes to my mind. He really does articulate lies and deception well. It panders to low-IQ leftists like yourself who love the idea of giving away your rights and power to the Government, in return for an empty promise of safety and stability.

it's the money in politics. get the money out of politics. that's step number one. that overton window thing is probably step number two.

Or at the very very least force politicians to publish all their donations = who they really work for. The USA really is the freest country in the world... including the freedom to quietly buy politicians.

Vote all incumbents out. Repeat for about 12 years. Maybe they'll start representing the people if they want to stay.

Hello Trevor, So one concern I have is about the emergence of an underground market in guns or in some other weapons, if certain firearms became illegal to own. Just look at some other examples of "banned" items that remain obtainable even though politicians have passed legislation after legislation to regulate or even ban them: a multitude of drugs, shadow banking, prostitution, gambling in your friend's basement, to say nothing of alcohol prohibition of the 1920s. All of these things are (were) either illegal in some places, heavily regulated, or maybe banned altogether. Yet, if I wanted any of them today, I could get them within an hour. Wouldn't this kind of access also apply to weapons? Please tell me I'm wrong, because I kind of wish I was.

Sounds to me like you know a lot of criminals. Someone should probably look into that.
@devastatinglogic62522 жыл бұрын
@@ElectroDFW Could you please define "criminal"? Also, what about the broader concern, that banning this or that could push that product underground. Is this a valid concern, do you think; or perhaps would this phenomena somehow not apply to weapons? Any honest analysis from anyone is appreciated here.🤔 By the way, I'd be happy to provide my best definition of "criminal" as well. When I see your definition or someone else's, I will share mine as well; I just don't want to bias your reply, or anyone else's. But I don't want to digress into what it means to be a criminal. I'd like to know whether my concern about an underground market in weapons is valid, or am I just concerned over nothing; and why.

But to your point there already is... so that point is moot... but its harder nowadays for people to buy illegal firearms than it is to buy them legally... Which is the issue

I'm French, and just because there's an underground market, we still never have school shouting. There's always a black market for something. But This is still regulated, and illegal, which makes things fewer chances to happen. There's an underground market in every country, but you're the only one to have all guns and have school shootings.
