Think about this for a sec, he probably spends a lot of money to get the intro done alone, then he has to pay for the puzzles witch are usually pretty expensive. No I’m not just focusing on how much money he spends, but I am focusing on the fact that he does all this to make us happy. That showed me that there is actually quite a bit of good left in this crumbling planet, and that there is still hope. I have watched your channel for quite a bit now and this is probably the best channel I will ever see on KZbin. Chris your amazing and will always be my hero.❤️

Imagine that the pieces are "walls" and the gaps between the pieces are a "path through a maze". The original solver asked if that path would always be of equal width. That is to say, if you were walking along the hallways of the maze, would the walls on either side of you always be the same distance away. The answer is no. In exactly three cases the hallways that you are walking through will open into a 2x2 room. This 2x2 room corresponds to four circles in a square shape in the puzzle. So, translating this back to the puzzle, the hint says that there will be three places where no piece touches the middle of a small 2x2 square cluster of circles. And furthermore none of those 2x2 clusters are adjacent. This hint can be used to verify placement, especially as more pieces are placed.

@Carl_Hoff

That 0.0003% figure I believe is coming from Table 2 in this paper: www.gathering4gardner.org/g4g13gift/puzzles/HoffCarl-GiftExchange-FromUntouchable11toHazmatCargo-G4G13.pdf It simply means of the 21 choose 9 or 293,930 9-piece puzzles that I checked on this 11x11 board, only 1 had a single solution. The other 293,929 had multiple solutions.

One thing to note about puzzles like these, each piece has 8 states. Front up, front down, front left, front right, back up, back down, back left, back right. Only two of the nine pieces to this puzzle are symmetrical, meaning that the front and back are the same. Always save these for last, since there is less randomness in those pieces. The goal of this puzzle is to eliminate randomness in the pieces, finding a neat start does this. Find three or four pieces that fit together nicely along one of the walls, and work from there. I hope these tips can help anyone trying to solve a puzzle like this, or solve this very puzzle. Good luck!

From that point on I slowly got hooked. 3 days ago I went and bought 6 hanayama puzzles, half of them level 9 and the other half level 10. I intentionally wanted them to be difficult so I can spend as much as time as possible on a puzzle. Cast Radix for example took me around 6 hours. Anyways, I just really wanted to say Thank You.

As a nerd, I would imagine that this is solvable through math by calculating the circles occupied by each piece and their edges and the amount calculated has to be compared with the existing number of holes on the board and then you build up on that logic.

+[Vedran Bilosnic] That would depend greatly, actually. There are plenty of computer programs that make use of logic, but especially this is true within the realm of Artificial Intelligence, as those are programs that write *_their own_* logic. _[Or, well..... more specifically, they have a "helper program" to go alongside them that basically rewrites the AI program over and over again until it has good enough logic to solve the given problem.]_

When thinking about solving this puzzle, my initial instinct would be to start in the center and actually try not to fit them all in the base (personally I would ignore the outer box constraint). I would probably try and configure all the pieces around a center piece while trying to maintain that same amount of space you talked about (just on the table no base structure). Rather then starting from scratch each time, not sure if that helps or if I am just spouting nonsense.. Really cool puzzle though, love seeing new interesting puzzles, also that intro was pretty great!

When you come out with a video where you don't solve it in one go, you know you found yourself a really good puzzle. Like the first Thor's Hammer wood puzzle you had. I know there's going to be some ASMR people out there wanting to see you solve it but that's not what puzzles are all about. It's about actually getting stumped some times.
