As someone who just recently vacationed in Vietnam, all the restuarants we went to offered us spring rolls. They were always fried, so those in chat are wrong about spring rolls not being fried by default.

The restaurants where I am call spring rolls "Vietnamese Egg Rolls" and Summer Rolls "Spring Rolls" for some reason. It confused me as well because if you go to the store and buy frozen spring rolls, they're the fried sort.

@@Lilly-Gorney yup even if you just Google it, you’ll see both fresh and fried. Default assumption is probably fried, and “fresh” is typically the modifier. But they’re both “spring rolls”. Nomenclature can change anywhere though. My Vietnamese friend’s parents’ restaurant would serve “Vietnamese spring rolls” and they were NOT fried. Other places might call that a summer roll. Yadda yadda Egg rolls, on the other hand, should almost certainly be a completely different thing. Made with batter, not rice paper. Prob the same stuffed crab Rangoon are made out of.
