I think both games are their own breed of hard, in the past you had to deal with the stiff D-pad controls and overall restricted movement, while the remake brought us into more smooth movement which lead to a more fluid combat system. Which lead to enemies ALSO being able to move more fluidly and faster, which made combat faster and a hell of a lot more panic-inducing. Still, game was good enough on PS1 to warrant a good modern remake.

Something iv missed about modern gaming. It was always a cool moment when u had to do a disc change over in stuff like abes exodus and final fantasy. Modern gaming has sorta lost little things like that and stuff like demo discs manuals and even cases

@@shawbag11 Hmm... You know, I've only ever thought about the downsides of the disc change system. All the times I couldn't play a game anymore because one of the discs was damaged or lost, or the program just kept crashing whenever it tried to switch over. But you're right. It did have a real tangible feeling of progression and success when you traveled from one disc to the next.

@@timothymenard1750 Souls games are the games I want to like but can't. It's not that they are too hard, because they really aren't majorly difficult. The issue I have is that they make amazing worlds, deep and flushed out lore, lots of different weapon and armor combos, huge variety of enemies, but the balance is an arbitrary roller coaster of fuck you. Some enemies have AOEs that are too big to roll out of so you have to take a hit, some have AOEs that last longer than your i-frames, some do multi attacks that have no choreography and are effectively undodgeable. So many projectile attacks that seek you even when it makes no sense. Why do arrows and catapult loads follow me? Magic I get, but actual basic projectiles actively seeking you makes no sense and makes the gameplay experience worse when you dodge something but it just changes its angle and hits you anyways. Elden ring has the balance issue worse than any souls in the past too, and even people who like souls games complain about it now. Bloodbourne was just another game I wanted to like, but couldn't, in a setting I prefer over normal Dark Souls.
