I remember an episode where David had help from a psychic or clairvoyant the actress in real life I think married Bill Bixby and this had a sad ending their little boy died and she got really depressed and committed suicide I actually saw her as a young blond on I Dream of Jennie when they filmed the Hawai episode .😔

@stephenalanmoore7278 2 жыл бұрын
@@alextollinche9947 That's right. Bixby's real life wife Brenda Benet appeared in the 'Psychic' episode with him. They later went through a very acrimonious divorce and his son Christopher Sean Bixby tragically died in some kind of accident during that time, which sadly resulted in his former wife commiting suicide by shooting herself in the head roughly a year later. Then, of course, Bill Bixby himself ended up becoming terminally ill with prostate cancer and died on 21/11/93 at just 59 years old. Clearly, it's a very tragic story all round where all three met premature ends.

Loved this show when I was a kid. Watched it every week. I have a poster of Lou as the Hulk on my wall. He's in the desert, doing his angry pose thing and you can tell that the make-up is just starting to sweat off. He's also wearing green stockings on his legs, as opposed to make-up, and you can see small moccasins that cover his heel and just the bottom of his feet. This poster also hung on my wall when I was a kid and I never noticed those details until last year when I pulled that poster out of storage, framed it, and hung it back up. It hangs in my office, and I love walking in and looking at Lou everyday, staring down on me as I work.

Dr. David Bruce Banner, definitely! Yes, that full name appears on his tombstone in the opening of the programs. And there was one episode where Lou played a regular guy that David met and helped. I think that the late Bill Bixby brought a great deal to the character of David Banner. You could feel his pain and anguish of having to keep his emotions in check and his sympathy for others. He always helped others even though his doing so usually got him into trouble that only The Hulk could get him out of.

Manny Perry, a black stuntman/bodybuilder, played Lou Ferrigno's stunt double. Arnold Schwarzenegger passed on the role but suggested Lou for the part. Here's the thing about home media releases of The Incredible Hulk -- They DID a Blu ray release in the UK but it was an upscale of the Hulk TV series, not a true HD remaster. In the US, we still haven't gotten a Blu ray release of any part of the classic Incredible Hulk TV series. Yes, quality 35mm film prints should still exist for the Hulk TV pilot and the 5-year production run of TV episodes. As for the NBC sequel films with Bixby and Ferrigno, I have no idea if those films still exist in 35mm film format. A lot of post-early 1980s films and some shows like Three's Company only exist on videotape now. Heck, they've NEVER released any of the four (?) Hulk animated series (1966, 1981, mid-1990s, Disney XD) in their entirety on home video, either. It doesn't look like Disney, which used to the king of animation, has ANY interest in releasing any of the Marvel animated series it owns on home media, period. Let that sink in -- one of the most powerful media companies in the world can't be bothered to release old shows and movies in-store unless they think they can sell a million copies. There are old Disney movie and TV shows you can't get higher quality than DVD unless you buy HD digital copies you don't own (you rent media space off a server, don't actually own the digital file; they can revoke your license to a downloaded at any time!) OR join an Internet club to buy those films on Blu rays which don't have any extras!!!! This is where we are in home media... It's different from 16 years ago when companies made AN EFFORT to do quality presentations of most of their movies and TV shows when they did release them on DVD! I don't begrudge indie home video labels for barebones releases of old films and TV shows but it's sad when a Disney, Warner Bros, or Universal can't be bothered to do quality releases with some extras... Heck, fewer and fewer films are getting released on DVD and Blu ray direct to stores. I would say a 60% MINIMUM of the home video releases have to bought online. Best Buy is the on the verge of eliminating its home media (DVD, Blu ray) department and selling the discs ONLINE-ONLY. Most Best Buy stores are down to ONE ROW of discs. The idea is to eliminate home media sales entirely before the 2020s end. Some people like me appreciate audio commentaries and interviews with people involved with the production of TV shows and movies. These sort of "extras" are becoming a "KZbin" thing and justify the existences of channels like this since the media companies can't be bothered to do this sort of thing anymore!!! There have been complaints about the Incredible Hulk TV series on home media (DVD and the "Blu ray" version) not being up to snuff, that the video was worn and it's not the highest quality it could be. That's typical of Universal home video releases. Their Battlestar Galactica Blu ray releases (classic series, 1978) didn't have any restoration I'm aware of and from most reports the color was sweetened and that was about the extent of the HD preparation. At least Classic Galactica had a proper HD master from 35mm film sources and wasn't just an upscale.

Yeah, I never noticed the anger/danger thing either until I heard it pointed out in an interview clip. I think maybe if they had zoomed in _just_ a little bit further, so we couldn't see the round front end of the "D" that was obviously right there, the message would've been a little more clear. They really weren't trying to be subtle about it. But the fact that they had to continue to point it out years and years later sort of demonstrates how many heads that flew right over.

One more person playing this main character was wrestler Ric Drasin. He was the "demi-Hulk" seen in-between Bixby and Ferrigno during the transformation. Adding Ted Cassidy and later Charles Napier doing the " voice" of the Hulk, this makes a time talking of 5 actors playing one character--4 of them at the same time. That's certainly a record!

Arnold and Lou competed against each other in a few body building competitions years before their Hollywood stardom days. In one Hulk film Bruce Banner does say that iconic "You wouldn't like me when I'm angry" line. Lou Ferigno made an MCU cameo as a security guard alongside Stan Lee, also as a security guard. Hey Rick, This was another awesome behind the scenes video of one of my favorite classic TV shows. Back in the late seventies I went out and bought a Betamax video recorder just so I could record The Incredible Hulk and The Dukes of Hazzard. I've always liked to Bill Bixby I enjoyed him in My Favourite Martian. I always thought that Lou Ferrigno did an awesome job playing the Hulk. Again Kudos to you Rick!

Nice job Rick, as always. So many things I didn’t know. I related to Dr Banner more because of his human frailties, but really enjoyed Lou as the hulk of course.

Rick, how can you compare the incredible talent of Bill Bixby or Lou Ferigno???? When Bill had lost both his son and wife during the second season of filming, it's true that his heart wasn't in to putting more effort in his character. And when he was diagnosed with cancer in the last season of filming, it was clear this show wouldn't survive. The top brass at CBS at the time, just didn't like the show and that was the ultimate demise if the show. Lou did an amazing job playing the hulk, without having any formal training as an actor, his part of trying to be this monster, but yet, being so gentle when he had to save people in the show, his ability to learn quickly the skills to portray his character was a very important part of the shows success!!!! I cannot choose one over the other because without each of their contributions to the shows success, it would never have made it pass the 1st season.......... We can only, remember, this was a time in history, when, the variety of tv shows to choose from, this was America!!!!!!!!

From what I understand, the Hulk in the comics was supposed to be gray, but there was a problem: comic book production processes used ten films: one each for three densities of cyan, magenta, and yellow, and one for solid black. While the set of colors this could generate included two that combined nominally-equal portions of cyan, magenta, and yellow, and which should thus nominally appear gray, the gray would have a noticeable tint unless the color proportions were exactly right. If it were supposed to be 66% cyan, 66% yellow, and 66% magenta, however, then having it come out as 70/65/65 would likely make the Hulk appear bluish gray and 65/65/70 would make the hulk appear pinkish gray. If, however, the Hulk's body were printed as 66% cyan, 100% yellow, and 33% magenta, then it would appear green even if the ink proportions were way off. BTW, a couple of production stories I found amusing/interesting on the DVD, for IIRC the pilot and the episode "Marriage": 1. There was a scene in which the Hulk knocked down supports for a balcony, which was supposed to fall as a result, but failed to do so. The camera was left running until it ran out of film, since stopping the camera and then having the balcony collapse when the camera wasn't running would have been disastrous. Once the camera ran out of film that made it necessary to stop filming and hope the balcony wouldn't decide to collapse before it could be shored up in preparation for a reshoot (fortunately, it didn't). 2. During the episode "Marriage", the cinematographer was asked to make a substantial portion of the last act look lousy and grainy, a request that he found bewildering since most of the show is shot beautifully on high quality 35mm film. The show needed to intercut stock "bad weather" footage, however, and in the 1970s nearly all of that was shot on 16mm film. If the non-stock portions of the last act were shot as well as the rest of the show, the stock footage inserts might have stuck out even for people watching the broadcast. As it is, I think the footage matches pretty well even on the DVD.

Love this show! Thanks for the walk down memory lane, Rick. Your videos are always on point and fun to watch. You never disappoint. As far as the name, I never cared that he was named Bruce in the comics. I wish that it had carried onto the TV show, but it was a weird time back then.

I like both actors. But the Hulk is my favorite. He has saved David's life so many times in the series. My parents and I always pointed that out. Why cure him? Hulk and David are a part of each other. David is smart though. Arnold Schwarzenegger would of been interesting and comical too. Lou was a good choice. Bill Bixby RIP. One of my favorite series. Good video. Did not know fully about Ted Cassidy being the roar. I hope that I win. Thanks, Rick.

That had to be hilarious, Big Louie driving through the streets of LA still made up as the Hulk, and causing accidents. This reminds me of the time when, about 40 years earlier, Moe Howard, of the Three Stooges fame, was hurrying through the same LA streets dressed up as Hitler, as he had wrapped up a day's work on the set of I'll Never Heil Again, and was running late for his daughter's (Joan Howard Maurer) birthday party, and had failed to change clothes. So motorists were calling the cops left and right to report seeing 'Hitler' driving through LA. 😄😄😄😄😄😄

It was amazing that every time he changed into the Hulk his clothes would rip except for his pants. His shirt with shred and his pants, if it did rip, was only below the knees. I wonder who made his jeans?

Stan Lee had a great answer for this, but it was in reference to the comic book version. He said that fellow scientist Reed Richards, of the Fantastic Four, designed Banner's pants with some kind of special elastic ability.

In the 70s my favorite shows were kung fu, the six million dollar man, grizzly Adams and the incredible hulk. The music they use for the show has a very special place in my memories as is the music for the other shows. I prefer Bill Bixby because they started showing repeats of the courtship of Eddies father around the same time incredible hulk was on.

actually there was a episode where the characters David Banner and the Hulk were seen together in the same seen it was the two part "Married " episode the first and second episode of Season 2. the scene was when David was in a hypno trance as his Wife helped him to try and control the hulk...and it was like a dream seeing the characters together.........as for making sure the character's were not seen together while filming the show so the news mags didn't have pictures of them together..............watch the MR. Roger's children show MR. Rogers visits the Hulk TV show to talk to Bill Bixby and Lou as the hulk is there as Bill Bixby was also there..... the episode being filmed was when David returns home to see his father and sister.
