It's impressive how one band can have so many different types of lost media- from video games, to physical items, and even a crossover with Adult Swim. Let's discover this rare content!

Man, the plastic era was wild west. There's tons, and I mean, tons of lost contents. For the record, Damon Albarn stated in the past he made enough material to fill three albums. Everything about that era is so mysterious, especially because Jamie and Damon had a fallout that let to a 7 year hiatus.

It's kinda sad because at times it feels like Gorillaz was kinda ahead of its time and nowadays lacks that ambition and edge that used to define the band.

The story of the 2D and Murdoc puppets reminds me of what happened to “Norman”, a puppet from Interpol’s Evil music video. He went missing for years until he showed up in an online listing, and was in complete disrepair until the new owner raised enough money to have him fixed up. Hopefully these two are better looked after, wherever they are.

I think that the Gorillaz' video game pitch broke my brain a little bit. Also, the fact that it was Dr Wurzel that sent you a message about it (if y'all don't know, Dr Wurzel, in the Gorillaz universe, was a very old antagonist from Phase 1 who mostly was messing with the band, took over Kong Studios one time and leaked "Ghost Train", who was the very first song the band ever did. He disappeared after that so seeing his name reappear here, decades after the fact, is pretty funny). But yeah, this video send me back to the times when I was an avid Gorillaz fan. I'm not as big as I used to be, but man, the days I've spent listening to their songs... big nostalgia.

I'm really glad to see someone covering this topic. Gorillaz have enough lost media to make their fans cry themselves to sleep at night. This video both fascinates me and hurts my very soul. And the fact that some of these are so hard to come by due to copyright and anti-piracy methods makes it even more heartbreaking. Copyright truly is the enemy of media preservation. But still, it's encouraging to see that so many people are so determined to save this content. Another virtual band with an insane amount of lost media is Alvin and the Chipmunks. The Chipmunks franchise has lasted for 65 years. And in that time, so much content has fallen through the cracks due to lack of official releases and constant copyright takedowns from the franchise owners. The fandom (myself included) has been incredibly persistent in finding and preserving media. But even with our constant efforts, there's still so much left to uncover.
@SlapstickGenius235 ай бұрын
It’s not so much the good means of Copyrights, but rather its own overextension, basically the first main enemy of media preservation today. Along with IP/Copyright/Trademark ab*se too.

It’s a shame that a lot of the lost media around Gorillaz is only so because it’s seen as expensive marketing (lots of the artwork, flash games, etc) or as demo stuff that Damon works on and abandons or turns into other songs in future projects.

The whole website is lost media at this point and the different iterations of Kong Studios and Point Nemo. I played so many of their flash games and exploring the website. I’m so glad I got to experience them in their Plastic Beach Phase, even if it was kind of the nail in the coffin, but I loved it so much and really wanted so much more than they were able to do.

Everything about Plastic Beach is so wild to me. There's so much we've lost from that phase and it makes me sad that we likely will never see any of it, unless Damon or Jamie decide to release any of it, which is unlikely. Plastic Beach is definitely one of the best phases, too, so losing so much from it is absolutely heartbreaking to me because it's the most intricate. I just hope that one day we'll be able to recover more Plastic Beach lost media.

I find it fascinating how much obscure media there is surrounding Gorillaz. Like, just when you think you've found the most off-beat bit of Gorillaz ephemera, you end up finding something even more obscure. I also think it's interesting how much of this lost media comes from the Plastic Beach era, and how said media was actually still around during the band's hiatus in the early 2010s... and a shame that I missed the boat on most of it, because I got into Gorillaz right before Humanz was announced!

I can’t remember where I seen or read this before, but there’s actually a lost Pharrell Williams & Gorillaz (unreleased) song. If I remember correctly, Pharrell was in a Taxi on his way to an airport. Once he had gotten onto his flight (or maybe after he landed already, I can’t remember to well) he realized he left his laptop in the Taxi. A laptop with Years of unreleased and unfinished projects that on there. I don’t remember the year this would of taken place, but my guess is somewhere around 2012-2014ish. Since that’s around the timeframe when Pharrell was making a Music comeback, but had released “Get Lucky” ft Daft Punk, “Happy”, and a handful of original music for movies around that time “Amazing Spider-Man”, & “Despicable Me”. If someone read something similar to this or remembers a Interview where Pharrell talked about this. Comment it below.

Only recently I realized Gorillaz have that name because of the Monkees, a 60s band famous because the music is made by different people than the band themselves, so the Monkees band are like the avatars of the people writing the songs in the same way Gorillaz are avatars of Albern and Hewlett.

Hello guys, I just want to tell you that until now.. I have no updates about the promo 'Music from the next album'.. if you would like to help to find it you could try to contact (as I'm doing since 4-5 months) record shops and especially charity shops to try to find another copy of it (especially in Brighton and Dresden, where two copies were found but now are untraceable). I hope some of us will find it, sooner or later. Thank you all.

I cannot express how deeply disappointed I am that the Gorillaz/adult swim crossover involved Tom Goes To The Mayor. Tim and Eric were, by far, my least favorite thing from the adult swim block. I really wish they had done something with Aqua Teen or Venture Bros, or, if it had happened a year later, Metalocalypse

I did a review on the Plastic Beach island exploration for my school news paper before they took it down. Had to listen to the instrumentals of White Flag over and over. I was just getting into Gorillaz at the time and didn't realize just how much lore and info I was getting myself into. Good times.
