Except all the Jedi in this embody Sith values, almost nothing aligns with known lore (the creators don't even know how lightsabers function), and it's filled with shallow joke characters that are meant to be taken seriously. It's comic fantasy with a Star Wars paint job. Basically, it's the Star Wars equivalent of Star Trek: Lower Decks, without all the juvenile "humor."

Yeah... I'm not sure i like the designs that much. The Jedi one seems like a bad idea just because only Jedi can use it - what if a Jedi has lost their lightsabre or a non-Jedi needs to use one? The Longbeam... Maybe make it shorter. And maybe make it more like something. Make it smaller if it's a fighter, make it less long but keep if if it's a bomber. It could be me, but I'd say functionality and design should be high priorities (don't make it a large box with bits sticking out - it needs to have some aesthetics but not to the point where it means the ship is less functional).

That's like placing your keys on a hook highup on the wall so that a child couldn't reach them, and then asking, "but what if the kid needs to use the car?". As for a Jedi losing their lightsaber, well a Jedi really should be careful to not lose their lightsaber, but I'd imagine if it happened then they'd be in quite a pickle. I agree that the Longbeam looks pretty weird though

@@FirstNameLastName-tg3rc The long beam doesn't bother me so much, probably because it isn't as bad as the final product we got in TLJ. My problem is the vector with its 2 protruding laser cannons. Not only are they an eye sore, they're so big that they look like they could tear the craft apart after firing a shots.

The “long beam” looks to be a type of gunboat or more likely an anti-fighter platform designed to handle large squadrons of pirates, seeing how there aren’t many threats at this time other than pirates and illegal smuggling I lean more on anti-fighter platform (I don’t know if they have a proper name).

It sounds a lot like the Corellian corvette, in that it is highly customizable to the mission, and can be operated by a very small crew but has facilities to accommodate a large number of passengers. It would be a general purpose vessel, including being built up to a gunboat or escort ship, equipped for long term habitation and scouting missions, or as a patrol and interceptor. Sounds like a well rounded ship by Star Wars standards. I wonder if there's a reason why they aren't seen later (other than they didn't exist in the story before now).

@@JMObyx in the old canon anything that requires direct force control to even make use of it like say a force imbuned sword or a starship is the use of Darkside powers. Also on a smaller note its stupid that the jedi would need a Starfighter that requires to be 100 percent conscious in order to fly it( making any astromech useless).

@@barrybend7189 I think the difference though is that in the Vector you're not so much manipulating the force as much as you are simply letting it 'guide' you. Same as fighting with a lightsaber, you let the force guide your actions. The Vector itself simply becomes an extension of your own body, letting you feel your way through. It'd be darkside tech if they used the Force to propel it through space, which I don't believe it does things like that.

Ooooh, so a seat of your trousers kind of fighter? Nice. No fly by wire to get in the way, no complicated systems. Just you, your padawan, the stars, a joystick, pedals, and 4 inches of travel on the throttle between staying still and bat out of hell quick. Sounds fun Actually, it reminds me a bit of the way some people describe the Spitfire: fast, agile, beautiful, but not pilot friendly. I'm going to try and make one of these out of Lego because the Vector is one of the prettiest ships I've seen (only marginally beaten by the Enterprise E) An interesting video Eck.

@@TheRezro considering its armament it is more akin to a patrol craft of WW2 or a modern day FAC. Small to medium crew, firepower to take on larger oponents aswell as smaller ones, limited range (I guess since it needs a mother-ship), something like the PC-461 class or the Gepard class (too big to be a mere boat but also too small to be considered a corvette)

Well theres a size class in between a corvette and star fighter too, or at least there can be. I'd say its closer to a gunship or even freighter similar to the millenium falcon personally. Corvettes in star wars are proper capital ships even if small ones, with full crews. Just like in real life where a corvette is a rated warship. I think since the Longbeam can be operated by just a handful of people, it shouldnt be considered a corvette. I would say gunship in a military role, yacht or freighter in a civilian role.

I'm on chapter 15 in the Audiobook version of LotJ. I'm actually liking it a lot. The Longbeams are my favorite of the new ships so far. It's kinda like the Star Wars version of a naval fast attack craft. Small, well-armed and nimble, but has enough room for extra passengers and/or cargo.

i'd assume it would be something like ABR, After the Battle of Ruusan or ARR, After Ruusan Reformations. As the end of the last great war between Jedi and Sith was the beginning of the Republic we saw end in Ep.3 1000ish years later

A modern fighter jet would also be almost unflyable without computer assistance, probably the same with starfigters, so if the pilot had complete control he would have to have superhuman capabilities and reflexes which the jedi obviously did. I assume most starfighters would depend heavily on computers to assist the pilot as manually controlling a fast and agile ship in vacuum and zero gravity would be quite tricky.

On chapter 20 atm, enjoying it, one of the better canon books so far. I really liked seeing the Jedi order in operation and attempting to live up to their highest ideals unlike the version of the Jedi order we see in clone wars. I’m also glad to be back on Coruscant, I find it to be one of the more fascinating planets in star wars with endless curiosities to discover.

I love how it looks like a dragonfly, and the fact that it's basically the star wars equivalent of a spartan suit. So sensitive that it will kill you if you're not literally born to use it. (although that's not quite the case with Spartans, but you get the picture)

I disagree. Since it can be operated by such a small group it shouldnt be considered a proper 'rated' warship, which is what a corvette is irl. And in star wars, corvettes seem to be basically the smallest capital ships, which it also isnt. So I would describe it as a gunship in a military sense, or armed yacht/freighter in a civilian sense.

Thank you! Though I’m not too fond of some of the artwork I’ve seen, I knew I was right to be at least a little excited about the High Republic. I HATE how a lot of people are immediately dismissing it as “SJW trash” or “cringe” when most of them haven’t even tried to read the material. I’ll admit, I cracked a joke here and there about the whole “control of the Force itself”, which I’m still a little confused about, but I had a feeling the readings themselves would end up being enjoyable! Finished this book a couple of nights ago and I really loved it. Felt so much more Star Wars than even the expanded universe novels did in a lot of ways. Even my original complaint about a hundred pages in of how it seemed too brief of a period of time between this and what happens in the clone wars felt redeemed by the end of the book. Highly recommend

I'm really surprised I havnt seen the use of kyber crystals in the construction of jedi starfighters. It would be really cool if a jedi used kyber to build and construct their ships just like the did with their sabers. In addition to making the ship impossible to pilot if you're not a force user it would allow the jedi to feel directly attuned to their craft and maybe even control the ships functions and weapons through the force as an extension of their own force powers. If a crystal can power a saber (or death star) I don't see why a group of them or a larger one couldn't power a ship.

Without spoiling much: There's other actual starfighters of the Republic later on in the book called the Starwing. We only have the description so far but I'm certainly looking forward to comics or concept art revealing the actual look. For now I picture them as a mix between A-Wings and Snowspeeders. As for the High Republic itself: It's great so far. I've only checked the comic and Light of the Jedi as of now but I enjoy the setting as much as I enjoyed the Republic/Jedi Order in the post Vong Legends books so basically much more than I enjoyed the Universe during Dark Empire or the Old Republic for example.

I'm almost done with the book, about 100 pages left and the book and timeline is great, the book is light with standing dark moments that sick with you through the book. I'm looking forward to the rest of the timeline, the Jedi so far are almost like the Jedi in legends, super strong in the force doing things that their more modern counterparts would struggle with

Or had any skills whatsoever at you know, programming. Or just had a lightsaber shaped object. Tbh there is about this ship I hate. Claiming it was almost as hard to use as a lightsaber. The Jedi lacked any form of competence with light Sabres. Their figjting styles all ignored the single most useful thing a lightsaber has going for it. You can turn it on and off. Hard to block a beam if you turn it off, and back on once past the block. No one ever does this, and it's the single most useful part of the lightsaber.

Sounds like it would be a logistical nightmare. Need to have someone fly it from one base to another for routine maintenance? Better make sure they are a Jedi or the ship might crash. Ground crew needs to check the weapons? Well someone go scrounge a lightsaber to shoot them (although I see every ground crew either stealing a lightsaber or making a fake one good enough to trick the systems just so they can test the systems without tracking down a Jedi). Also what defense contractor would even both with this thing? There are only so many Jedi, and they're a bunch of monks not like they're made of money (who funds them? Must be the Republic, ugh your tax credits at work: special fighters for warrior monks). Seems to me that a non-Jedi version would end up showing up soon after this thing rolls out. The big money is in selling to the Republic military and system defense forces. I'd bet the only reason they bothered to produce it was so they could toss that fact in to the marketing material, "now your military can fly the same fighters as the Jedi Order".

The LONGBEAM-class could be the equivalent of an Aircraft Destroyer, a multi-purpose Combat Aircraft primarily used as an extraordinarily heavy Fighter to combat other Aircraft. They can also be used for reconnaissance, dive bombing, etc.

If I had to say, the Longbeam having a significant personnel capacity along with support weapons, I'd say it's the equivalent of the ACH-47 Chinook... think a Chinook helicopter but with teeth and a tough hide. Hopefully it is less accident prone than the ACH-47.

Might be annoying to Bring in real Life politics, I still think they are a good exmple of what is possible: Look what is Happening in the US. Trump needed half a year, to complete discredit bellot Vote. Now a Few months later we have people destabalizing US Democracy by Storming the Capitol based on that bellot fraud narrative. This happened with only 4 years of build Up, now we have 200 years time to undermine the Republic. I think this is very much in the capeability of the Sith, who at that Point must be Masters in Infiltration and Manipulation from the shadows.

It sounds like the Mitsubishi A6M Zero: nimble, agile, no protection and moderate guns. It was overwhelmed by the sturdy F6F Hellcat, while less agile was stronger, much better pilot protection, well-armed (six 0.50 machine guns) and team tactics to catch the Zeros (as Tach Weave).

Listening to Light of The Jedi (On chapter 13 so far) It reminds me of back when I first started reading old comic books like Tales of The Jedi and Knights of the Old Republic. It's interesting to see what the Jedi used to be before the Skywalker saga. Really enjoying The High Republic so far.

Going just on your description this sounds absolutely like they went full-on in the Jedi-as-space-wizards direction. I'm sure that there will plenty of people who'll be able to enjoy that, but I'll still maintain "that's not how the Force works!" That's one of the few things Last Jedi got right: Luke tossing that old lightsaber over his shoulders. It's a tool, not a totem! And jedi are, first and foremost, mortal. Building a ship that will kill you if your superhuman concentration should fail - or be disrupted - even for a second, is not smart. Darwin-awards all around!
