Funny Out of all the routes proposed by those studies..only a few were built. The Rockaway line was cut in half.... The SAS is only a drop in the bucket EVEN THOUGH BILLIONS OF DOLLARS WERE SPENT ON IT. The 61 st line turned into the 63rd st Crosstown connector, with two levels built for both LIRR AND NYCT routes. The Queens Bypass was never built. The Southeastern Queens line was only built as far as Jamaica Center The SAS was actually constructed in lower Manhattan under Chrystie st with One station Grand st.. This line actually changed the way the formally separated BMT and IND systems operated by combining both into the B Division...by using portions of the plans that practically took over the Nassau st line..and the BMT Eastern Divisions Broadway Brooklyn Elevated replaced by trains from Second Ave and 6th Avenue. It also takes over two sections of the southern BMT division lines (west end and Brighton) Lines that would have reached the most riders, and transit desserts were not built...which didn't make any sense at all

I think I would not be able to understand what the subway is. I was only able to figure out after a few months being in NYC for vacation. I would have given up with the IND Second System.

And in that alternate universe. the TA would have built many miles of new infrastructure between about 1950 and 1975 that would be in need of renovations by now. Imagine what the maintenance backlog would be like today in that situation.

Given the current decline and fall of New York City, I wonder if any of these extensions will EVER be built?!?! Thanks for documenting these plans, so that in the future, there will be a record of the hopes and dreams of an enhanced New York Subway system.
@GunHillTrain8 ай бұрын
Since COVID, office occupancy rates in Manhattan have dropped considerably and may never be revived. Also, the MTA is stuck with high debt levels, maintenance backlogs, and unfunded pension and health care obligations to its employees. Thus they will be struggling to maintain their existing services for a very long time to come.

Great video! When discussing the proposed extension of the Hillside Ave. line into Queens Village you note with a sigh @ 12:30 that it would have terminated at Springfield Blvd. There is still a wide median between the lanes of Hillside Ave. running from about 218th to 231st street that was put in place to allow space for the station and tail tracks. However, the 1939 IND Second System map on Wikipedia shows the end of the line at Little Neck Parkway, 1 3/4 miles farther east at the City Line. I wonder if that plan was cut back? Also, when you cover Jamaica in the next video, can you talk about proposals to extend the Jamaica Avenue line eastward? I'm old enough to remember the elevated line in Jamaica. When I was growing up in Queens Village there were rumors of an unused tunnel under Jamaica Avenue around (sigh) Springfield Blvd for a proposed but never built subway station. Do you know if there is any truth to the rumor? Thanks for great content! 😀

The Utica Avenue line should be revived and built along with a revival of Floyd Bennett Field as a secondary/regional airport like LaGuardia to cater to regional flights to take some pressure off JFK across the harbour, and then connect the two with more automated skytrains!

The extension of the Hillside Ave line is built to Springfield Blvd as a 4-track line, but walled up after the turn tracks of the 179th street station, because of a poorly installed wall on the Manhattan-bound track where it collapsed onto the trackway around 188th street, and was never opened for traffic. For a little while the other tracks were used for layups until a new motorman took the train to Springfield Blvd for a lay-up, then just before 188th street the TA walled up the tunnel so this would not happen again. There are air vents on both sides of Hillside Ave from 179th street to just past Springfield Blvd. CHECK IT OUT. If they repair the area where the bad construction was, the F could go to Springfield Blvd and this could be done in less than 6 months. Oops, I forgot we are dealing with the TA.

The mayor Eric Adams said that south Bronx definitely needs Transportation 3rd Avenue Elevated line also . The 3rd Avenue Elevated line shouldn't never been removed at all. Focus on the iRT lines like the old 8 3rd Avenue Elevated line between Gun hill and and Queens plaza connecting with the 7 N W trains 🚃.
@leecornwell5632 Жыл бұрын
Listen carefully Eric Adams said that they are definitely gonna rebuild the cross Bronx Express Highway 🛣️ because the roads is definitely bad . They are talking about making it bigger for the Bike lanes on both sides and jogging and walking. So this way when they rebuild the Third Ave Elevated line it could definitely be a little higher so the 🚛 and the tracker trailers and the trucks and bigger dibble decker buses could pass by. The cross Bronx Express Highway is not going nowhere. They are definitely gonna rebuilding of what Robert mosses had started and taking a way the 8 Thrid Avenue Elevated line down. However Erick Adams and governor Cathy hucko is gonna definitely have God's way and there way now. You know that the old president Robert mosses is no longer on this earth 🌎 anymore. This Thrid Avenue Elevated line definitely needs to come back I tell you that right now.

You never know . Look at the second Ave subway line is back . Never say never so could this . You definitely need to take a look at south Bronx. they don't have the 3rd Avenue Elevated subway line anymore. South Bronx is definitely suffering without the 3rd Avenue Elevated line. They should of never taking down the 3rd Ave Elevated line down at all. so let's keep it 100% real That's is nothing to play with. This is really really serious. No ifs and buts about that.
