My dad had one of these, bought it in 2004, threw a rod in 2007, had it rebuilt and back in the car in 2008, then eventually sold it to build his dream car which was a factory five cobra in 2011. God I miss that S281, it put a smile on my face as a kid that not a single other thing could

Sweet car man! Sincerely. I saw your offer on the black one. I'm going tomorrow to look at 06 with 98k for 14k. I been leaning towards a 07 z06 Vette my buddy has with only 68k miles for same price. Kinda torn. Vette has some mods as Saleen stock. I was told the Saleen is slow because it has a hard time hooking up until halfway through second. I just Love the looks and sound of the Saleen. Beautiful! My favorite color is blue and wanted blue. Anyways,do they handle as well as I think? Anything much different from the 05 GT I had? I looked at a 07 Audi s5 last night and almost bought it lol. 6 speed black on black but going go drive Saleen tomorrow here in Texas. Thanks for any information in helping my decision. Matthew Wood I love this car, and it turns heads everywhere I go. They are so rare you hardly see them so when your driving people take notice. It sounds just insane and it has real fast throws through the gears, it will get loose in second real easily. It handles nice, and I compare it to the 06-07 Shelby I had and think it handles better. These cars will increase in value, the Corvette Z06 will not appreciate as fast. If the Saleen your going to look at tomorrow is a supercharged, then 14k is a great deal

Despite the excalades with the company itself, Saleen's products were always impressive. Several tiers beyond any normal Mustang. Its not even debatable that it was Saleen who carried on Shelby's tradition, when Shelby America and ford were not truly doing anything substantial both on the road or in racing for decades. For a time Saleen dominated the road and the track, pro racing series and scca endurance championships several consecutive years. Saleen least we forget brough mustang back to lemans in 1997 and 98. The very year Mclaren F1 made it historic mark so did Saleen Mustang compete, and did very well though dnf'ing just a few hourse before race end. Saleens were the first mustangs to compete directly with europes best and win. Saleen mustangs were all about the track and track performance long before people here in the states were interested in anything other than straight line drag racing. Saleens drove like they were on rails. and whats so familiar these days were the sorta stuff one could only get from the likes of a ferrari or porsche of which its top models out performed. In fact Ford modeled the boss 302 and later SHelby's off the very recipe Saleen had being doing since day one. But here in the states, although born and bred, far too many people misunderstood Saleens goal. far too many people celebrating the 1960's and muscle car antics. a boat load of power that never makes it to the road, terrible handling, loud and obnoxious. Thankfully we saw the errors of our ways by way of Jeremy clarksons US bashing. Muscle getting beat by miata's shamefull. so when it came time for me getting my first car it was a saleen s281 speedster. ANd people use to ask why? it simply was the fact they never drove one. they had no idea of the transformation from the stock mustang. Today its all changed, finally ford has almost all but removed those 1960's muscle car triats. Good riddens!!. no mow lieing to ones self in regards to piss poor performance, and shotty engineering. todays mustang is a marvel. and the Shelby mustangs are to die for. And saleen although flying low under the radar is still making jaw dropping mustangs. but i would say, they need to re-establish their uniqueness. as they allowed the likes of Roush to steal all their looks and tricks.

I picked up a 2000 s281 sc Two months ago with 21000 miles has a Borla headers back stinger exaust and 373 gears . Love the sound of it and it rips pretty good

If it’s one of the few Cobra Converted Saleens with a “c” code it will depend on mileage and condition. I have seen them sell for as high as 100k.

Ya besides the 99-04 cobra all mustangs were solid axle until 2015

Its solid. It's basically a modified mustang gt modified by saleen before the sale.

They did however make a saleen cobra which was rare they didn't make that many. They made them in the na cobra years as well as the 03-04 terminator cobras. Many people don't realize they made saleen cobras. They were basically like these just started life as a cobra instead of a gt so it had the 4v and also the irs if it was a 99-04 car. They put the saleen kit and brakes and suspension and wheels on it along with most of the body changes. They kept the cobra hood I beleive and most of the interior is unchanged. A saleen terminator would truly be a badass car to own but they're so rare it would be hard to mod it and I wouldn't want a terminator if I couldn't modify it. If I win the lotto I'm gonna have a saleen terminator lol. I seen one few years back in black low miles for 40k and I thought that was insane price (at the time it was very high) but today normal terminators go for that so that would have been a good car to get hard to tell what they fetch these days probably 60-80 grand easily. This was just 5 years ago or less too. Super cool cars. The saleen terminator is the best of both worlds you got the looks and world class performance in the twisties saleen is known for but with the terminator driveline and interior = perfection.
