i’ve played several nikki games on and off since my childhood but i’ve never finished an entire main story even once. i love story and dialogue driven games but i think you’re right about it being overwhelming and confusing. it’s nearly impossible to understand all of it but it’d be very interesting if you choose to do an in-depth lore video someday!

Personally I absolutely love how much story there is in Shining. You get such an emotional connection to the world and a sense that everything and everyone is connected, as well as many different sides of each character. It's been 3 years since global release but we recently got one of the first ever story chapters recontextualized through a heart to heart with Modric, feelings he had been keeping to himself at the time. You're never the main character, people have their own rich lives and owe you nothing, the world is beautiful and alive, shaping and shaped by the generations who were here before us...I'm in love with every corner of it

I love the story of Shining Nikki so much❤ The new Glow Cat event story honestly brought tears to my eyes. Even the cute designer reflections have such heartwarming story. The infinity nikki story is honestly a little disappointing when I'm used to how good SN's is, but otherwise the game is my dream dream

I feel the same & im so mad that i keep missing event stories bc I don’t have time to sit there & read them 😭 but the story & characters are like legit my favorite part I think it would be a hard task but if shining nikki’s story was adapted into some form of media other than a mobile gacha game it could srsly be amazing 😭

Am I one of the person of Nikki's games player? Yes, I do. I played Nikki Up2U, Hello Nikki (until the server discontinued), Love Nikki and Shining Nikki (currently still playing the last two games). First of all, I'm not a gamer and I don't play that much, but I'm stuck with Nikki. I like my daily routines which include playing Nikki games daily. Yes, starting from Shining Nikki, there is too much that you have to do, at first. It was overwhelming but then I kind of got used to it. The gacha part is okay, I guess I'm a tedious person so I don't mind crafting a set of clothes for almost a year hahahaha Anyway, some part that I need to add about this video. Hello Nikki is Nikki traveling the world with her sister while chasing her father who is a worldwide photographer. He leaves clues here and there for Nikki to find. In Love Nikki, the first tale of pink haired girl from the battle isn't Nikki (but I suspect, her mother) so Nikki is actually forcefully summoned to Miraland for no known reason. Starting from Love Nikki, it feels like reading an interactive novel, yes there is a lot of going on. Some deaths and betrayals. It is interesting if you like this kind of game. You got things right about Shining Nikki. I guess, the 3D part of the game is to appreciate the design of the outfit which 2D can't give them justice. Tons of 2D design clothes from Love Nikki translated to 3D in Shining Nikki, which is loved by fans. Yes, the story is long, this is the type of game that you need to play it daily. Then the last, Infinity Nikki. I think while the developers still used a concept of Miraland, but it is totally brand new. Though, I hope the developers would eventually dive why Miraland stuck in fashion styling battle rather than direct violence (that is the lore from the Love Nikki). If it still has the same reason, then that will be interesting. And why in Infinity Nikki there is a lot of investigation that distract Nikki from focusing crafting the miracle outfits. Hahaha, yes, Nikki has been playing detective ever since Love Nikki. I guess, the target audiences love fashion and detective combined. I'm so used to it, I don't even find it strange at all. So the conclusion is, just enjoy playing Nikki. Yes, it will be going on forever but you can drop it off if you get bored and pick it up back again if you want to. Nikki games are to be enjoyed little by little, daily, while reading what you like and skipping what you don't care. Happy playing! Welcome to Nikki gamers community!

I'm gonna spoil a bit. Love Nikki, the pink hair girl in the beginning is not her mum. It's Nikki herself. In later chapters, there are time travelling, she was the one who went into past to collect the royal items. For why is there fashion battles instead of real battles, its because of the blessing/curse the king/goddess (can't recall) placed. They had seen how brutal and bloody war is. So henceforth, if anyone wants to settle any conflict, you must use fashion power to avoid death and blood.

@silverjuly9339 thank you for the correction! I didn't play Love Nikki at first, but Miracle Nikki (Nikki 360) which has the worst english translation ever so I dropped the game years ago. Love Nikki isn't available in English but Indonesia which put me off a little bit so I only recently picked it up again. I have progressed much further in Shining Nikki, but Love Nikki I'm still in the beginning of chapter 2

My opinion is the opposite regarding the story, because, as a JRPG and visual novel lover, I ADORE crazy convoluted stories and lores haha I played a bit of the other games years ago, but I didn't get very far due to lack of time. I'm even planning to get back to it BECAUSE I heard the story gets crazy haushsushs Im loving Infinity Nikki so far! I really wish there were more skintones because mine is just in the middle of the light skin and the "medium" skintone, just three is far too few!

I uninstalled mine from my steam deck, the game kept not loading properly and I'd have to repair it so often, play on PC only now but this game is EVERYTHING, I don't mind paying the 4.99 monthly payment tbh because it gives 2700 diamonds but that is pretty much all I'll invest in terms of payments, my advice with ANY gacha game is to only pull on the one you really want, don't like the current banners? skip it and save the diamonds for the next one.

Rotfl yes I got to that point in the game where the guy is standing in the chair and so is Nikki XD I couldn't help but laugh. Sometimes Momo will follow me floating around in t-pose. The only visual glitch that really bothers me is he will say that "There's a Whimstar around here!" every 2 seconds or get stuck even after I get it.

I played love nikki and then shining niklki for years and spent money on it but I was only in it for the styling part and never paid attention to the lore other than watching some KZbinrs who would talk about the lore but those videos were rare to find. But I am loving the story in Infinity Nikki probably because it's more interactive and it voice acted. Infinity Nikki is very similar to Genshin in terms of UI etc but they both use the same gaming engine and actually infinity Nikki was registered as a game way before genshin. I play both games and love them both tbh.

It’s f2p friendly if you don’t mind not collecting every outfit, I was f2p until the sanrio collaborations came & unfortunately the collaborations are limited time only so I caved 😭 but until then it was no problem being f2p

So I've been playing Love Nikki since 2018, and play consistently, like I'm in a top guild. And your points about the story are absolutely correct- it gets really convoluted. There was definitely some bad timing though, since it's the anniversary, there are tons of events running, including two story suit events (we call them hell events because they're expensive haha). <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="790">13:10</a> was a rerun, and <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="807">13:27</a> was a brand new event. I think Love Nikki's playerbase is for the most part older players, so the devs absolutely don't really look into the pileup of all this stuff. I'm not too sure why unlocking all these events isn't more staggered, because I agree its totally overwhelming. Also I feel like it's never been a strong point of Nikki games for having a cohesive story unfortunately, but at least the art is absolutely gorgeous. I wish you could've showcased how much Love Nikki has actually evolved, because although the introduction stuff is very 2015, there's actually some really new features and interfaces (like live2d suits- most new, fancy suits are animated) that bring it some justice. Loved your video, and as a long time player even I didn't know about that first game 👀

For me personally, Infinity Nikki is one of the best games in the entire franchise! I LOVEEE open world games so much, I've played so many games like that (BotW, Wuthering Waves, Genshin Impact, etc etc), and honestly the fact that I.F has so many things to do is what kept me playing. For BotW, I got bored of looking for shrines. For WuWa, the combat wasn't interesting enough for me. And for Genshin, I just wasn't invested in the dialogue-heavy story, and the world exploration felt bland. But with INfinity Nikki, I haven't had any of those problems! Granted, it's only been a week since the game's launch, but still! I really enjoy all aspects of the game.. Collecting materials, catching bugs and fish, the side quests, the gacha, the dresses and OH MY GODDDDD the story. I love the story, and I love that it's dialogue heavy, which is rare for me. I feel like the side quests really help to expans the world, and also they're just a neat, quick little diamond grab if not anything else lol. I haven't gotten bored at all because there's just so much to do. If you're not looking for whimstars, you're completing minigames. If you're not doing that, you're just exploring the world, or doing some quests. Overall, I don't think I'm going to get bored of this game anytime soon, it's so good lol

It’s funny, with love Nikki having so much, I started back in 2016 or so, and I am glad I did as I would be so god damn lost if I started now. So much has been added over time, it didn’t feel like there was too much if you started a long time ago lol. I adore the story. It’s buck wild. It would reference war and death as past things, like we used to do that but too many people were dying so we decided to have styling contests instead Spoiler after this Then a main character that is so sweet and loving gets straight up shot, killed and dies in your arms. It was fcking insane. Like made me so taken aback and made me love the game even more. The story is quite involved.

Little confused about you talking about games you constantly have to pay for (to me that’s games like WOW and FFXIV) when Genshin and Star Rail are both 100% F2P EXACTLY like the Nikki games? Not sure I got what you were trying to say there

Figure it means how F2P friendly it is. Like can you get through the main gameplay (story quests) without spending money? Can you get decent looking enough clothes for free? Is there a huge disparity between free and paid clothes? That kind of thing. I've played Love Nikki and Shining Nikki and tbh? The answer for those it's not really F2P friendly (and there are ranked modes too). You can get through the story and get a few good looking outfits but everything else is a struggle. If Infinity Nikki is similar then I think anyone looking to play as F2P should keep their expectations low. People complain about Genshin but as someone who has played many Gacha games Genshin is actually pretty fair in comparison.

@ I thought that too but HSR is one of the most F2P friendly games I can think of so I didn’t understand it in that context. It sounded like HSR and Genshin were listed as the pay to win options and that just hasn’t been my experience at all vs games you ACTUALLY have to spend hundreds of dollars on each year like FFXIV. I haven’t played in two years because I haven’t been able to justify the sub cost when HSR lets me do everything for free lol

Honestly... I felt it was underwhelming. It feels like they just wanted to make "genshin for the girlies", there's no truly social element and the story seems stereotypical but plain and nonsense at the same time (again, like they wanted to make yet another jrpg "high stakes" story except it's just uninteresting). I really wanted to like this game, especially with that introduction and the tutorial section that got me hooked, but honestly it seems like I might just uninstall it soon... :'/
