Chanel is NOT worth it for me anymore. I had to become a client on the Orlando boutique because the SA told me I had to buy from that particular store to be able to refurbish a vintage bag with them. I bought from that store and became a client because I live in OH and there is no Chanel boutiques here. I traveled last week to finally be able to refurbish my bag. Traveled a day early to be able to go to the appointment and send the bag for a spa. And after waiting in line for around an hour. The SA said they changed their policy and now they DO NOT spa bags over 5 years old. WHAT?????? I bought articles from the boutique to be able to be a “client” for them to give me this Shet! What?!?! I was so mad I went to the Hermes store in front and “became a valuable client”!😅

They don't even do good refurbishing. We have seen the bad job they did with Jacob's bag after waiting months for it to come back from "France". Chanel is not at that level. Other luxury brands like ysl and Versace send their leather goods to local trusted leather people. A third party company. It is OK, they do an excellent job. Chanel wants to act like the have craft people 😂.

They can “harmonise” all they want I’m done with Chanel AND their Sales assistants. I’m still mad about my last spend of $1000 earlier this year at the beauty boutique on my birthday (which my SA knew about) and only receiving a gift of a tiny Chanel No 5 perfume. Not even the tiny bottle replica, just the cheap one. Really Chanel? After the thousands of dollars I’ve spent in that store - no more.

This is fascinating to me to see if normal buyers, not the filthy rich, are rebelling against these luxury fashion houses betraying their (once) loyal customers. Early this 2023 China lux shoppers been saying they rather shop within China than fly to Europe . Saving on travel costs & getting better personalized service in their local China outlet vs bad services overseas . This is also one of the reasons why Chanel might be hiking prices .

Taking into account the fluctuations with currency, economy, world events- harmonization doesnt mean crap at the end of the day nor justify the ridiculous prices. and the aforementioned above noone can control. I also say that with the current economic conditions, not many can afford it anymore. This also hammers home what you have always said, it is the classes that are not in the top 2% propping up the industry. Will anyone care about the advertising/marketing and wanting that new thing vs even affording to eat? Such a fabulous analysis and your insight based on your experience in the industry is absolutely invaluable- thank you!!

Chanel isn't worth the price at this point. Hell, they haven't been worth the price in well over a decade. There are other brands with higher quality and a lower price point. If Chanel and other high end brands keep doing these insane price increases, they're eventually going to price themselves out of business, as most of their potential buyers aren't going to buy what they're selling. The ultra wealthy can't buy everything, you know. As for myself, no matter how much a Chanel bag may tempt me (I've only seen one that could, then I remember the quality issues), I'll be sticking with other brands that offer high quality without the 5 digit price tag. There are many out there.

Excellent video Dacob! With the speed how things are going I'm wondering when enough is really enough? I feel like a lot has to happen for Chanel to drop the prices significantly (Or for any luxery brand for the matter.) It keeps getting harder to keep up and justify those prices even if the quality were good. I feel increasinly uncomfortable to wear anything that is obviously Chanel with those price increases. Thankfully there still are some understated items like the lovely 2.55 but still.

I would feel ok paying more, psychologically, if my purchase included the cost of travel to Paris… or London. Meaning, I’d rather make my purchases in Europe, knowing I’d have to ferry myself there on holiday. Visit the museums, have morning coffee in Trocadero like I did at 17, dinner with old friends… and a stop into Chanel for perfumes. That would be heaven. This may have a different interpretation, since the Chanel brand, due to the flood of new brands in the market, intends to disassociate itself and remain as THE Luxury brand, therefore increasing the price! It doesn't seem so unreasonable to me. But... nowadays there are, thank God, many brands that are making a name for themselves, with excellent designs, great quality and more affordable prices, they just aren't Chanel.

From my perspective, the Chanel brand, by creating this communication strategy and as a consequence increasing prices, is creating value; It draws the attention of customers and potential customers to the fact that are creating just for them! I think that's called exclusivity. It's what millionaires dream about! These days, unfortunately, loyalty is hard to come by, and the business world is no exception. Dacob! You must break down that 3rd Q report! I am so sick and tired of these designer brands.(I do not call them luxury anymore…the bags are good but they aint great and there are a few small private manufacturers who have better quality) So all we are doing at this point is buying the brand name. I DO NOT LIKE FEELING LIKE I AM BEING HUSTLED! That is what the brands are doing to us customers . We the customer/people have the power but too many people follow influencers and the hype with no regard to critical thinking purchasing with intention and not purchasing for the hype. If the customers do not stop acting like sheep and just sucking this crap up they will never stop. It is crazy….the wealth gap is growing and the every man/women/them are working pay check to pay check. Heck I have a few nickels to my name but there is no way I am forking over my coins to the greedy MF’ers. It makes me sick to my stomach that the owners of Chanel got a 5 billion dollar bonus. I’m off to Japan to pre love luxury shop tomorrow on the hunt for a vintage 2.55 amongst other additions but dang…that bonus they got has put a bad taste in my mouth.

Chanel has like 100 price increases in one calendar year I’m shocked anyone still cares about their not even 24k gold basic flaps that every Midwestern girl with 30k on Instagram has. Bleh.
