As a researcher in this area, the hype in this area is crazy. The only advantage is speed over classical computation, classical can do anything a quantum can (church-turing) and we are decades (if at all) away before we see a speedup that will be economically justifiable.

I think the privacy gains for quantum technology are vastly overblown. People already give out information so you don't need to steal it. As for the quantum internet that will not be faster than normal internet for the foreseeable future. The more I hear about quantum computers the more I feel like we are playing with an similar situation to mechanical computers in the 1800s. We are no where near where we need to be with tech yet. I am hoping for that advancement like the transistor to come along to make it more feasible to see what it practically can do.

Think about this: Even if we get an super AI that can do all the computing/ programming, it will not know what to do with its computing power until someone tells him. Only humans truly know what humans want or need. Also, an AI doesn´t have curiosity and imagination, which is needed to think about something truly new. @engineer gaming To the observer, it is not yet determined what state it's in, and so for the observer all possible possibilities of what state it can be in all have a combined total of 100% chance of happening. You can boil quantum mechanics (at least the mathematical part of it) down to similar to just regular probability, but we don't know the exact % chances of each possibility, just that they can each be the case, and we don't know which it is until we see it.

That's revisionist history, there is a huge amount of early developments in the field of computer science, both theoretical and practical, (even when it was just a sub-branch of Mathematical Logic, e.g Turing Machines etc.), without mentioning Quantum Mechanics even once. Sometimes I just wonder why we couldn't use Morse code to communicate over large distances with quantum entanglement. something to note is that engieneers generally agree that a quantum interenet will be a cloud internet. We will not see a quantum personal computer anytime soon. Not only maintaining a quantum state of qbits is incredibly fragile, but you need to refrigerate it. only allowing large facilities like government buildings and big tech corporations as reliable ways to store them.

Yes. If there was somehow a way to get private quantum computers, that would be amazing, but I think that quantum computers are an overkill for communication when the internet works just fine. What I do think would sense is for large corporations to use the quantum computers for communicating with facilities at Mars (right now a single robot) because that planet is several light minutes away from us and very unreachable in terms of accurate communication

Some smaller comments: qubits are not "hole" particles. Qubits can be 2 different states of one atom, electron, ... but can also be a combination of multiple ones (logical qubits). They can not be copied for other reasons.

Observation doesn’t change outcome, that’s a misconception. It finalized outcome. The cat in the box is still alive or dead whether or not we observe it. If it’s dead and we leave the box closed, it’s still dead. However we don’t KNOW which it is so we assume it’s both till we observe. Superposition is more a way for us to grasp quantum mechanics rather than a feature of quantum mechanics itself

Me thinks the narrator meant to say the Pauli Exclusion Principle not the Pauli Exclusive Principle. Another error was discussing the possibility of teleportation using Quantum entanglement....besides referring excessively to the Terminator's "Skynet", the writer of this video may have been watching a little too much Star Trek. Entangled particles do NOT transport which is a common misconception. Entangled particles merely switch spin instantaneously (100,000 c) at extraordinary distances, but there is no movement of particles, so teleportation is not part of this technology. The latest theory is that the entangled particles may be connected by a gravitational wormhole.

Two questions: 1. Quantum cryptography requires to exchange information outside the quantum crypptography, and even more so, the information that you were trying to encrypt??? 2. Whats the usage of pauli blocking if we already have glass? It just lets light trough it, coating yourself with such "packed" particles would result in a transparent "barier", clothing.

Just my 2 cents here but actual post-quantum cryptography won't happen on quantum computers but on regular devices, simply because it will be economically unviable (perhaps even unfeasible) to fit day-to-day devices ranging from smartphones to smartcards with quantum circuitry that can compute meaningful operations. Every modern device right now has already the performance power ready for the post-quantum standard that will be determined by NIST. Even more so, AES-256 and 192 are already post-quantum secure (128 will be considered insecure). RSA will become obsolete (as prime-factorizing will be very easy on quantum computers), and post-quantum key agreement protocols are being developed with modern hardware in mind.

I don't see how quantum computers are faster than traditional ones. in general use, they are actually slower. only in optimization problems they are a bit faster and a lot more efficient.

Maybe they’re not faster in the traditional sense, but are faster in the same sense as a car going from 0-100 in 4 seconds and reaching 300 km/h compared to another car going from 0-100 in 3 seconds and reaching 250 km/h. Once the data is loaded, it doesn’t have to be un-loaded when going through a different area, but is rather stowed away in a sort of limbo until it is needed again.

Another use of quantum computing is the vastly superior way of using AI up-resolution graphics. You can render a game at lower resolutions(720p or 1080p) and then process it with quantum AI up to 8k resolution with no degradation in performance. Current upscaling technology uses a lot of cpu power but with a quantum computer you can do the same more efficiently.

Overall i am excited for the future able to create simulations and what not, in that we can even enter in VR like in ready player one. aside from literally be able to solve every problem including curing desease because we will be able to compute almost limitless possibilities to eradicate an invasive desease. One thing that's i see is bad for the future is ai Entertainment though. I'm addressing a problem that Ai art is doing right now in the entertainment industry. Ai art is hurting the entertainment industry because it is learning on artworks that were taken without artists consent. Everything that is basically in the internet. And people with 0 skill are monetizing it by abusing loop holes in policies in the application. Ai or in this case "mashine learning" software is not the same as a human thus not the same as a human taking reference. Because we humans even if we take reference will never be able to recreate someone else's artwork to 100% accuracy. Because we take and will have been influenced by past experiences and feelings. Ai Software can recreate to 100% because as of now they aren't true ai, not even close. They aren't sentient. Therefore they are creating artworks within it's given variables. They can not think for them self since they aren't even ai. If true Ai would create artworks/animation/music/etc. Then i would be totally okay with it, if that ai would be self aware and understand basic human ethics and have common sense. If they are not regulated by law, like they are in the music industry then I can see millions of artists losing their jobs to unethical ai used by unskilled greedy and lazy people. And I'm sorry for being so on the offense but we artists are getting pissed on even though billions of people are enjoying our crafts and works. If that gets taken over by these unethical ai Software( and i can see these being developed even further to animate and create shows and movies) it will absolutely rip this industry apart and we will be entering a skynet era of mental destruction. And it's NOT a good thing to let it be and develop "because it's the future and only natura"l. As we don't allow a virus to mutate beyond countermeasure, we can not allow something that will be a billion times smarter then all of us combined to take over what we consume. In the music industry when the company behind stable defusion introduced it's ai, they got shit on so much that now there are laws to prevent copyrighted music to be trained by the ai(including anything in the internet that has intelectual property). Thus making it learn only royalty free (basically stockimages like) music. The same company releases ai for art but does the complete opposite to us artists. It's ridiculous and borderline disrespectful to us and our rights. If countermeasures can be achieved in the art and film industry, that would a win for a better future too. Thanks for reading this far. I hope you do some digging in this yourself too, and I'm sorry for going off topic in this video comment. But i hope i could give you some inside about how we artists are being exploited on an industry wide level and people don't even realize.

Watching this video I may have misunderstood, however the first thought that came to me is that with information being able to potentially be sent faster than light through what is effectively a wormhole. It fixes one of the issues i and many people have had with a human empire spread across space spanning across light years, instead of messages taking months and potentially years for information and messages to be spread between the various human colonies that could be scattered across the universe or Galaxy they could be sent instantly making them much more viable

All they're talking about here is the benefits of massively increasing available processing power. If we suddenly snapped into existence a supercomputer the size of jupiter, that we could somehow access and it be well cooled to where it doesn't melt of course, then we'd have similar benefits to what's described. With normal supercomputing. Im sure Quantum computing will have it's hurdles to overcome, but overall, it will be a good thing.
