@@garygreen2146 Not officially, but the term ''Deutsche'' existed arround the times from the breakup of the Frankian Kingdome. In most nations the Germans are still called by the old Roman name: Germans. Or ''Germanians''. The first time however that Germans called themselves ''Deutsche'' instead of ''Germanen'' was after the reign of Ludwig der Deutsche. It wasn't common though at the start. Troughout the times of medieval ages Germans splitted they own identity. For the Germans there were no Germans, but Bavarians, Frankish, Saxonies etc. However, outside of HRE, the common term ''German'' was used. As for Slavic people, they used the term ''niemicki'' which back then ment as much as ''foreigner'' or ''Stranger''.

On paper this seemed possible, based on military strength. Before the Spanish/American war the US navy was small and the army was less than 100,000, mostly scattered around the great plains keeping the peace. I think the Germans assumed that they could seize some areas and secure them before the rest of the US army got mobilized. I heard that the German general staff was appalled at the idea, but the Kaiser wanted to implement it, until he became buddies with Teddy Roosevelt. Once the Kaiser cancelled the invasion the German general staff, with much quiet rejoicing, shelved the plans.

Other than China and India, our army is the third largest, with our civilians owning guns, as well. @@kaustabhk9212 I was comparing the power of the German Military to that of other militaries though. In 1914 the Germans easily had the best military in the world, in 1939 they still were lacking behind other powers and only made up for it because they had better ideas on how to conduct modern war. When the others eventually caught up with them things went down the drain rapidly while the Empire was still able to hold the line for almost an entire additional year and keep the war away from German soil until the very end.
@Mmvarto4 жыл бұрын
Kaustav YZF In relation to their own time periods, imperial Germany was stronger considering everyone else around relative to their time periods. Imperial Germany could probably defeat any other country during 1914 and everybody knew they could after they defeated France during German unification. Much of german high command during 1939 did not believe they could beat France anymore, much of the military was not mechanized like France and believed trench warfare would stop any progress, it’s a miracle Germany beat France during ww2 only winning because of French commands incompetence and old fashion thinking

Lol like the time Germany secretly sent a letter to Mexico to try to get them to help invade the US during WWI. That as an awkward one for sure...

There's loads of these types of plans knocking around in those days. America declared war on Spain and conquered some of it's territories remember as was mentioned in this video for example. The Americans had a plan to invade Canada... Those plans were quite abit earlier though, basically America was paranoid the British would invade again and didn't want them to have a place build up right on their border. Basically every country in the world had a plan to invade everybody else, it's what generals and shit do when there's no wars going on, they dream up potential wars

@@JustAnotherNamelessGuy Tell that to the masses of German soldiers torn apart by US Slamfire Winchester shotguns in WWI. It got so bad that the German high command actually bitched about it and tried to make using them a war crime. If Germany invaded it would be like any hellish occupation. Very little big battles but constant harassment and supply lines being attacked with hunting rifles etc. It would be similar to what happened in the Winter War where Finnish troops isolated and slaughtered Soviet invaders in the frozen woods.

@SchwerMetall1545 жыл бұрын
In Willie's defense, the US hadn't used two experimental nuclear warheads in retaliation of getting just one of their cities being bombarded by an enemy power. So, you know, no wonder he thought there was a possibility. Not so much the second amendment though, until 2008, the interpretation of which was over the military or 'a well-regulated militia' which was characterized earlier in the articles so not *that* many people owned guns even in the waning years of the American Wild West.

You’re wrong everyone owned guns in the 19th century! Way greater percentage of the population was armed than it is today
@eriknervik90035 жыл бұрын
SchwerMetall154 That’s not true. Most citizens outside of major cities owned arms. And court precedent from the 1840s explicitly recognizes a right to bear arms Your ideas come from the book “Arming America” which was discredited because the author fabricated his sources

I'm from Brazil, and it's crazy to see the importance of Cuba even before the cold war. Even germany knows 100 years before they could use influence over south america countries using cuba territory. USA removed spanish from cuba. URSS allied castro in cuba. And still even today, the political situation of Cuba trigger so many tensions between left wing and right wing here in Brazil and others South Americans countries.
