The metric system of measuring things uses Celsius for measuring temperature. Kelvin is used in the SI system to measure temperature. Fahrenheit is the unit used in the imperial system and it is, unsurprisingly, the most arbitrary of the 3.
@TheDenialist8 жыл бұрын
Actually they are all equally arbitrary. It's just that the points used make them seem more or less so.

Everyone knows imperial sucks. The only reason we use it still is that getting rid of it would be unimaginably expensive and difficult. Everything revolves around it. And so we are stuck with it.
@dannylamb45610 жыл бұрын
I began bashing my face in at the explanation of why Fahrenheit is so goddamn annoying to understand. I mean, why the hell have a unit so arbitrary when doing what Celsius did makes more sense? 32 degrees is the freezing point of water but having your zero be the temperature of a solution that isn't constant? I don't get it...
@Wilderwolfman10 жыл бұрын
The Imperial system may seem strange out of context (so does everything else) say you have a bushel of Wheat its 8gallons or 60 lbs but if you have a bushel of water its gonna be 66.76 lbs and still 8gallons. When transporting or selling a product you need to be precise so, that's why we have strange sounding measurements. Like the Chain which is 22 yards or 100 links the reason for this is because in the old days a surveyor would have a chain and a stick to measure great distances and they would keep the chains at 100links to keep a constant measurement across rocky or uneven surfaces and when your trying to survey something consistency is key.
@dogstar2349 жыл бұрын
Wilder Wolf Man or you could use metric. Everything is in tens. 100 millimetres to a metre, 1000 metres to a kilometre. 100 millilitres to a litre, 1000 litres to a kilometre. ect ect
@Wilderwolfman9 жыл бұрын
dogstar234 Metric has its place but its a multi-tool ; alright at alot but not great. Imperial measurements are specialized tools and not meant to be used for everything.Metric is easier for the Masses and uniformity.

The Metric system is used to define temperature in terms of water. However, Fahrenheit is used to better for humans on a scale from 0-100. 0 being really cold and 100 being really hot. And I am a people, not a water.

Lol at the people defending fahrenheit. There is no appreciable difference between any 2 degrees in celsius. I don't need any more subdivisions. No normal person does. 19ºC = 20ºC for all intents and purposes in regular life. If you say you can tell the difference, I'm sorry but you either have some hypersensitive condition or you're lying.
@tugafighter10 жыл бұрын
And on the other hand, if you really need the precision (for what will be, most probably, scientific activity) the metric system wins hands down every time. You can divide it in any power of ten you want and get as precise as needed.

True, true. Still, at least they're taught (mostly) side by side in schools. Hell, higher level science courses generally use SI units for everything anyway. I like to think that, in the distant future, miles will be the last remnants of the Imperial System, because we were too lazy to/didn't bother switching the road signs.
@nanounit12 жыл бұрын
The thing is that it kind of was. I wouldn't describe the people who made the imperial system as "hicks" but they were living long ago. I'm sure the names of the units came before the units themselves were fully defined, for example hand and foot used to be simply "the length of a hand" and "the length of a foot" respectively. I agree it is archaic, whose hand and foot you use is extremely important, but it was what they had at the time. Everything was just built on the past.

i offer instead, a crazier solution. We keep all of our commonly used names, and the physical measurement of a mile but instead of 12 inches to a foot we have 10 in to 1 ft, 10 ft to 1 yd and 10 yd to 1 mile and then create some other form of measurement lower than the inch and break up the system to where the new 'micro inch' is about the equivalent to an inch/centimeter and then move up from there. It's perfect, it's contrived and completely useless and pointless! Do i get a peace prize now?
