I literally watched a pastor cry because he was devastated that Halloween was an allowed and accepted holiday. He called it disgusting and evil and corrupted and dangerous for the children of god. He said it was Satan's holiday despite the fact that the roots of Halloween are originally Celtic, and once it was taken and adapted by Christians via the Pope, it was used to honor the passing of all Christian martyrs. It's astounding to me how these people manage to twist and convolute their own histories and beliefs so severely that they entirely disconnect from the original intention of Christianity

My faith is personal to me, and a lot of so-called Christians don't recognize me as one of them because my own beliefs tend to also incorporate pagan ideals and forward thinking notions. As a Christian do you agree with someone mocking healing? The Bible speaks of healing and faith in healing ❤️🩹
@toriwissinger10753 жыл бұрын
@@stephaniebrown4456 I'm not sure what you mean by that? Do I believe you can pray for somebody to be healed of a deadly disease? Sure, you can pray. And miracles are not outside the realm of possibilities. However, there are a lot of passages in the Bible that talk about helping ourselves. That being said, God has given us the wisdom and discernment of science and biology. There are doctors and hospitals readily available anytime we're sick or injured. It's incredibly foolish to be sick or hurt and say "Oh, I'll just pray and God will heal me" when he has literally put the tools right in front of us. There's a story about a man who's out on his boat. A huge storm comes, smashes the boat, and he's left floating on a piece of the wreckage. He prays, "God, please save me!" Hours later, another boat comes by and the crew says, "Hop on! We'll take you to land!" The guy says, "No, I have faith God is going to save me." A few hours later, a helicopter flies over, a ladder is lowered and a crew member says, "Climb up with me, I'll take you to safety!" The man says, "No, it's okay. I have faith God will save me." Days later, as the man is dying from dehydration he prays, "God, I had faith! Why haven't you saved me?!" And God replies, "I sent you a boat and a helicopter! What more did you want?!" So yes, if it brings you comfort, absolutely pray for healing. But also recognize the tools and resources that are right in front of you and use them wisely. As a Christian, I believe God created us to be incredibly intelligent beings, so of course I believe in science and all of the amazing things the medical world has accomplished. Up until two years ago, I had a thriving career in pharmacy. Most Christians believe in science and use prayer for comfort, but somehow it's always the weirdos iNabber talks about that always get the spotlight and give us a bad name 😅

There were so many threats of hell, infinite torture, violence, etc in my childhood, and it’s taken a lot of therapy to work through that. If the Christian god is real, he has a lot to answer for. You can’t say that your god is good/love/caring with the amount of suffering that he allows to occur every minute of every day. Leaving Christianity was one of the choices I made. I’ve been a practicing pagan for about 7 years now, and I feel so much more spiritually fulfilled.
@JasminMiettunen3 жыл бұрын
I'm not trying to convert you or anything, just explaining something from my perspective. Humans have free will. God can’t stop everything bad from happening and stop people from doing things, or we would just be lifeless puppets. Like a loving parent letting their kid make their own choices and learn from them even if the parents know their kid can get hurt. With that free will we also chose the good and the bad, which allows the devil to do things, like disease and natural disasters. Him stopping those things from happening would be taking away that choice humanity made. I can’t explain everything, like why do bad things like sickness and disaster happen when humans already do bad things, but this is just how I see it. Someone doing horrible things to you in the name of God is still their fault. You can’t blame God for things other people do to you. You can blame Him for not helping, though. Some could say He did help you survive or something, but I understand how you feel. While I didn’t go through things in the name of God, I still went through things and wonder why God didn’t help, or send someone to help. I just direct that bitterness towards the people who hurt me, not God. It’s understandable how you feel if those people put the blame on God.

Go to an atheists only subreddit if you just want to circlejerk about how God doesn’t exist in an atheist echo chamber. That said, if you weren’t being an ass about it, you bring up an interesting point. Free will doesn’t exclude the possibility of omnipotence, it doesn’t mean God can’t allow people to make their own decisions, but how that affects some divine plan? Good question. Is there a plan, other than to let us make our choices and choose if we want to believe or not, and how we want to live our afterlife? Does God already know what those free choices will result in, and he's just following along, the ”plan” being more like a prophecy? Do our individual choices have such a small impact on the humanity that our personal decisions don’t affect “the plan”? Does God even exist? Fuck if I know. Personally, I believe in the first. There is no plan. Adam and Eve chose the knowledge of good and evil, and God is letting every one of us choose if we want to believe and go to heaven, or not. They could’ve lived in paradise forever, but humanity wanted choice, life is just a chance to make that choice. So now we have a life to think about it. We're born in a place with good and evil, so we can choose where we want to go after death.

What I find interesting about the whole 'the bible says it's wrong to be gay' is that quite a few bible scholars now think that the bible was actually just talking about not 'laying' in someone else's bed (which like yeah, that'd be a dick move for sure) and not 'laying' with *boys*, as in being a nob? I think it's best to remember that the bible was translated by people who already had their own ideas of how culture should go, independent of the bible. when he started talking about how "god took control of me and started writing", it genuinely sounds like, coming from someone with experience, he was at a really low point mentally and ended up having a dissociative episode where his body just went into autopilot and he started typing about stuff he'd been thinking about. as someone who has had moments where i zone out and half-conciously type out a couple starting paragraphs for stories i'm never gonna write, i can see how he would say it felt like he wasn't in control. honestly i think he was just on the verge of mental break and his mind latched on to closest thing he could think of to help. it's really sad, although i could be wrong. another thing: on the water turning red thing, in other cases many scientists believe red in the water is due to high amounts of carbon dioxide in the water. which is actually very dangerous. it could also just be a mineral leak. there are plenty of scientific explanations for it and it's actually rather common.

Disclaimer: very long and this isn't a comment to force this person to convert into Christianity. I'm here giving an opinion on some Christian's perception of prayer Seriously, what some people don't understand is the concept of prayer is basically like this in my opinion: God is like a doctor and therapist at the same time, and you are consulting Him. You told Him all of the burden that is on your shoulders, whether if someone is sick or you aren't mentally okay. Yes, I know He doesn't respond literally, but the feeling of letting the thoughts in your mind out of your chest is relieving. But that doesn't mean it ends there, you also have to do your part to solve the problem. It may not be perfect, but that's how God will answer your prayer. He will guide you. I heard a saying, "Nasa Diyos ang awa, nasa tao ang gawa" which means that don't just pray and do nothing, but pray that God will guide you to do your best. So basically if your loved one is sick, still consult a doctor. Sure, you prayed but you need to do something about it to make it come to fruition.

I also find it funny how he claimed homosexual love isn't love it's lust but the other straight man in his podcast claimed men cannot have platonic relationships with women, essentially implying that they can only have and hold lustful relationships with women because of their "urges", that's not love that's a means to an end. So straight relationships would equal lust with that logic.

I understand that maybe as an atheist you feel the need to be against the idea of religion (i have been there myself) but i think that having a constant negative view on all aspects of religion all the time can make you a very bitter and unlikable person. Also, it's important to view things with nuance and avoid generalization

The whole thing about, "if I go to subway and tell a female worker to make me a sandwich, is that considered rude now?" Yes Nick. It' is. It's rude to ANY worker, not just a female worker. Who the fuck would talk to a worker like that ??

I *almost* feel bad for him and all his “totally platonic friends” I’d feel so bad if my husband didn’t see me as an actual person who he can confide in and comfort him etc. and I also couldn’t imagine being in a relationship with someone like them...like being nothing but a sex toy doesn’t seem very fulfilling 🤷🏼♀️

What's kinda sad and unfortunate about this situation is that one of the biggest signs of the onset of mental illnesses such as schizophrenia in early adulthood is marked by a sudden fascination or obsession with religion and the occult :( I hope he's okay emotionally

Yeah his little standup bit about hearing God and guiding him reminded me a LOT of my own personal experiences with Schizophrenia. Granted what I thought God wanted me to do was starve to 74lbs and not make hateful videos but Nik is showing some top notch delusional behavior there

@@wrexvincent I'm glad you overcame that. Not religious but I have severe panic disorder w/ agoraphobia. At my worse I was unemployed bc I thought I would be kidnapped, assaulted, or ABDUCTED BY ALIENS if I walked out of my front door. I got pretty skinny too from not being able to get groceries often. I know that kind of paranoia is stressful & it's hard to come out of. I'm glad you're away from that part of your life and doing better!! Damn that seems absolutely plausible. I thought it was like his background resurfacing as is the case for a lot of these born agains but he’s not even from a Christian background - he grew up with a Hindu background, from what I understand. The way he’s engaging with the material seems very… non-neurotypical as well. (Sorry I’m neurodivergent myself and that might sound stigmatizing but idk how else to put it.) And there’s a whole genre and audience of social media enabling it.

As someone who grew up christian, I FULLY BELIEVE that god blessed us with healthcare and mental health professionals because he wants us to take care of ourselves. He called them to help others and they listened. I have always believed if you want what you ask god for you have to be open to the many ways he sends you his answers.

Or, they did it on their own, because they wanted to and didn’t need anything calling them but I suppose that can be waved away with the claim that God DID call them whether they believe in god or not. I don’t think anyone called them, I think they’re smart, hardworking people all on their own, in the beauty of humanity.

I love how these particular groups of Christians paint God/Jesus, especially about "God/Jesus taking over my body to do this." If you told this to someone who isn't remotely familiar with Christian literature or what have you, they would probably be thinking they were being possessed😅 They're not really doing a great job advertising their religion
