You know what I like about powers in Fire Force? Consistency. Everyone gets one powerset and any new abilities they learn are logical extensions of that powerset. A lot of other anime just keep tacking on new, completely unrelated abilities to characters until they don't really have a signature style or recognizable gimmick, just a random grab bag of tricks.

Okubo's greatest strength (regarding power systems) is his ability to turn a hard magic like fire into a soft magic with so much nuance and depth.

I'd say he maintains a good amount of hardness on his magic by linking it to very specific personal quirks, rituals and concepts. He turns a basic concept (not really hard) into a diverse but well connected mesh of personalized interpretations of the basic concept, while also giving each character their somewhat stable rules (therefore making it hard for each, but soft for all). I would like for the systems themselves to be a bit harder, honestly, to see a bit more instances of the characters exploring, bending or breaking the basic, common concept.

Eh debatable. I didn't watch the video as yet and paused it cuz he was listing a bunch of characters with fire powers he liked and just fully showing his bias to fire powers so I thought it would just be a video worshiping and went in the comments to hear others opinions. But like 2/4 of the powers are fire kick, bullet, punch, bubble, flower, guns, sword, etc. Another 1/4 is powers like ice, gravity, time that was made connected to fire but could've been separate. And the last 1/4 are the interesting ones, black smoke, infrared vision and the one that predicts future fires. Those were pretty good. Is it the best power system. Nah. It's competing with power systems that have d4c, idle death gamble, parallel future, king crimson, nen chains and emperor time. But it's definitely an interesting one.

I said ALMOST. n if u know anything about science you'd kno that the properties and laws science begin to change as temperatures reach true absolute zero, the absence of any heat. Such as light becoming a liquid. Even the concept of time reacts differently. Shos ability allows him the rapidly cool the area around him reduce the heat of the of the expansion of the universe. If u need to understand the ability more, there are plenty of videos explaining this. But he is not stopping time, but in fact slowing time down, at least for him. He is changing his perception of time, so to anyone else it seems as if hes stopping time but in fact he is jus moving faster the th w other person's perceive sense of time.

Not really because it’s not standardized how much you gain for how much you lose, it’s up to the devil. Like Aki gets the future devil because the future devil is like “your futures fucked, I wanna see”, but in that same scene the two guys who go down there with him tell him about the last 2 people to make deals and they lost like a limb and an eye. You can also see how like the girl with the ghost devil gave her whole body, but didn’t really gain that much power compared to others characters in the show. By your logic she should’ve been one of the strongest because she gave up everything, but she was relatively weak.

​@@Bananaficiary It's interesting because while not being standardized, you're still completely invested in contracts and understand what they mean. You know Aki isn't getting the Future Devil for free BECAUSE you hear what other people had to give. So whatever it is he's meant to encounter has to be worse than losing a limb or half your life span. Himeno did gain more power, but that wasn't the point. She offered her entire body to get control over Ghost's entire body. This comes into play by showing that Ghost still had to follow a command even after Himeno was killed and Ghost fell to someone else. She paid for it, and that helped Aki survive when he encountered Ghost again. This, again, plays into Future Devil by showing Aki isn't getting a devil for free. Power systems don't need to be standardized. The audience just needs to understand what characters can and can't expect to get from it. So we know a devil just biting off your hand won't force it to follow your orders, and we know a devil isn't playing when they say they want your life span if you want them to grab a jar of cookies off the top shelf.

Although I agree with your overall conclusion and thesis statement you need to work on how you present the info. It doesn't make a convincing argument when you are arguing Fire Force's "power system" as one of the best when your basis is self referential and the examples are copies of the powers and abilities section of the wiki page. It's like claiming that a man is the best runner in the world by comparing his latest to his last running record. You should've just used the mere fact the Author was able split up "heat energy" or fire into the multi-faceted application of physics based phenomena into a cohesive and balanced power system. 2nd Gens use external "fire" and 3rd Gens use Internal "fire" and reapply through a specific application. Whether it's emphasis is on speed application, space time dealation through thermal expansion, plasma, kinetic absorption, kinetic vibration, velocity and vector control, basic pyrokinesis, electricity, gravity, magnetism, thermal byproduct such as soot, nuclear fusion or fission, metal thermocycling and hardening, infrared vision, weather heat systems a.k.a tornados, or fire based constructs and projectiles, it takes a simple element and reapplies it in a realistic manner based on real world physics, for the most part, and makes a great system.

Fun chemistry fact: not all combustion produces fire, and there's a lot of hot luminescent gas that isn't caused by combustion. In fantasy magic systems, plasma makes things weird by existing in-between "fire" and electricity. I think a cool twist would be that in order to burn things you'd have to suck heat/energy out of something else (that isn't an infinite Hell Dimension)

note for 3rd grader mindset people out there who think 4th gen is stupid: basically, Shira can accelerate so fast with his fire power, instead of interacting with existing molecules he can just move through them... best example is: light going through transparent object and solid objects with less volume such as fabric. Light HAS particles but they vibrate through atoms so they pass through objects. Similar to DC's The Flash, he can vibrate through atoms to he can walk through walls. Sho does not stop time but the thermal expansion of the universe. Everything in the universe has some sort of energy, even rain and snow, and basically he stops that energy from moving. Inca sees explosion before it happens because explosion needs large amounts of gas, fire has gas, add more gas to fire means explosion coz the fire will devour the gas in a short amount of time causing surrounding particles that isn't involved to the chemical reaction to move in high velocity cause they get pushed by the energy caused by the explosion. She sees the gas that will be consumed even before the chemical reaction occur. Her Start and Goal is as simple as collecting gas and igniting it with her 3rd gen ability. You can do this with a plastic bag and a lighter. Collect gas with a plastic bag and ignite it... it will explode!

I see this is a relatively new channel, you’re doing a great job so far! I love the editing, the commentary and the music in the background to avoid to many quiet points. Perhaps lowering the volume of the music and mellowing out your voice since it feels like you are fighting with the music for the spotlight. It may feel redundant to read out what you have put on screen like when presenting the names and abilities, but it helps lower the pauses that make it less congruent. I was hoping this would be more of an analysis rather than just listing off a bunch of the characters and their powers in the show. I also don't think this power system is all that unique. Yes it's limited to only fire but that's honestly where the uniqueness ends and even then he doesn't limit it to only fire once 4th gen gets into the mix. What it actually is, is a hard magic system with a few softer elements (again, the 4th gens as an example). He created and established hard rules for his system and chose energy as the basis for each power's design. Many anime have done the same thing where each character's powers are defined by their own rules and expanded upon. Full metal alchemist is a good example of this but they use the idea of equivalent exchange instead of fire as the creative limit. A few other well-known examples of similarly done systems are my hero academia, jojo's bizarre adventure, bleach, a certain scientific railgun, guilty crown, parasyte etc. I like the choice of fire as a creative limit because it's something the viewer can use their real-life understanding of to add weight to what's happening on screen. When a character controls the established laws of real-world physics as opposed to something like "ki", "chakra", "natural energy", "magic" etc. they will appear to be smarter and more intuitive to the audience because they can follow the connected dots. This is why hard magic systems can be a lot of fun to speculate about as we take what we know about them and come up with things the characters may not have thought of themselves. This also leads to a greater payoff when those characters make a breakthrough that we foresaw because our understanding of the system is validated. It does however have the opposite effect if what happens on screen doesn't match our own understanding of such limits. Having said that I do think that Ohkubo did a good job with this system and it was a very good choice for the kind of story he was looking to create. I do think that he failed his own system however with the 4th gens and that they were a step too far. They broke the only real limit he created for the system which to me caused those characters to be rather dull when compared to all previous gens. It went from "woah that's an interesting concept using fire to create ice like that!" to "oh someone who can use time magic, cool I guess..". The suspension of disbelief was no longer present and for me, that made a big difference. Having said that up until that point I think he did a damn good job with this limitation and did well to show how the exchange of energy in our real-world physics could be applied if it had a little logistical push from magic; very cool. I still have other systems in mind that I prefer more but this has already become quite lengthy so I'll keep those with me for now. tl;dr - Wish you'd put more detail into your opinion rather than just listing all the characters and their powers. The power system isn't all that unique it's just a hard system like any other just with fire as the chosen limitation and each character having their own established rules and limits. Many other systems do the same thing just not with fire. I like his choice of fire as the creative limit. It's far easier to understand than things like magic or chakra and makes for a better payoff when we speculate on future applications of the powers. Ohkubo did a good job though, cool stuff. Fucked it up when 4th gens came into the mix IMO. I liked how it reflected real-life physics if energy exchange was given a helping hand by magic. I still think there are better power systems out there.

Yeah I came to say most of this. The magic system is eh to me. A lot of this stuff doesn’t really follow fire specifically. Idk. If it’s more about energy, then make it about energy. But adding in the ability to absorb kinetic and heat energy and then output as flames or someone who can control electromagnetism implies a considerable misunderstanding of how these elements work. Especially the electromagnetic octopus tentacles? I think my issue is that the creator worships these powers due to their relation to fire but they’re not actually related to fire at all. A lot of these abilities have nothing to do with fire or heat energy inherently but the writer connected them for the system and people ran with it. Adding electromagnetism to a fire weilder does not make it creative or well written. The two things are not related. As a power its cool, as a FIRE power its bad. Additionally, yeah I was hoping he would explain why he thinks the power system is great adn how intricate or impressive it is but he just lists the powers off. Not a big fan of the video, hopefully they’ll take these thoughts and feedback and improve in future videos but yeah. Don’t really think this power system or video landed for me. not a big fan of either.

I'd personally say that Dragon Ball's world's Ki System is very hard with few soft things in between. While JoJo and Bleach that you recounted just now, I would personally place in the soft section of the Power System.

​@@sumitrana2420 It's a spectrum, most power systems are a combination of soft and hard elements. The part about bleach which is a hard is how each zanpakto has it's own set of rules that must be followed and the whole kido system. It's a mixture of soft and hard but similar to fire force in that each character has a unique ruleset they have to work with. Same with jojo, stands have unique skillsets and rules for the individual which can be utilized but never changed by the user. The main difference between soft and hard is that soft elements do not have clear rules but hard elements do have clear rules. Armed with that understanding one can easily see soft and hard elements in almost every power system that exists. It's very unlikely you'll find one that is pure soft or pure hard.

Fire is, if you think about it, bendable the same way as generic Energy powers are. Most moves in DBZ and Yu Yu Hakusho for example, are energy-based attacks that really could be replicated easily by Fire, and sometimes Water. That's why Fire Force works, its really that but Fire. Get all powers in Fire Force but change the context of "Fire" with just "Generic Energy-Chi power from your average anime". It still pretty much the same right?

Scientific explanation of how 4th gen power system works excluding the drawing girl cause hers is just whatever Shinra brother can heat up the area in his direct vaccinity causing the universe to briefly and quickly expand (a mini big bang) but that quick expansion of space essentially pulls out the flow of time making 1 second turn into an hour or in this case turning a micro second into plank time cause in relation to how much space hes traveling in his own universe everything else is essentially not moving at all Shinra goes so fast that he surpasses light speed throwing his body into a state where his particles become so small (sub atomic) that the normal laws of physics dont act the same such as his particles not being restrained to just moving 3 dimensionally. In this state his body can move in any direction through any plausible ammount of dimensions and time in which he lands exactly where he wants even before hes technically left the previous location in this state he most likely can see the past of the human race cause he is existing outside of our conceptualized understanding of time. Essentially watchin all of history like a movie and then deciding to teleport back whenever he wants

Fire force, Code Geass and Hunter X Hunter contain my 3 favourite power systems, Code Geass is very similar to Fire Force as most of the powers in that series are based on the Mind instead of Fire.

I never watched this anime and throu this video I was wondering why all the characters you mentioned were throwing hands always at the same poor dude with the pointy teeths, in the clips.
