Seeing Roy in action back in the day was something to behold. His style was so entertaining, and he dispensed of his opponents with ease with flash. To say Roy's father was a tad excessive would be an understatement. Roy is a really guy too. He could have gone the other way, which is something that can happen. The son can become the father, and be just as much of a tryant to their own kids.

8:05 while an understandable thought, the answer is probably yes. As a black kid growing up in poverty I experienced the same thing. I ended up competing on scholarship in division 1 athletics but I would have anyway without a similar childhood. It didn’t make me better..It just made me bitter. What Sr did introduce to Jr. though is boxing and it does indeed sound like his time on the farm influenced his boxing genuinely.

Roy hit Bryant Brannon with 3 left hooks in one second that had him wobbling all over the ring. I know, because I timed it on my VHS player while on slow motion. My favorite boxer of all time, hands down.

RJJ was a phenom. Before there was Floyd Mayweather, Jr. there was Roy Jones, Jr. And he dominated the P4P list for nearly a decade. Roy's style was premised on speed and agility. His type-2 fast twitch muscle fibers developed through playing other sport (ie. basketball) and training gave him an enormous edge over his opposition. The single biggest mistake RJJ made was rapidly reducing weight after dethroning John Ruiz for the WBA heavyweight championship. That weight reduction should have been natural and over a period of perhaps a year or so. Jones didn't have much fat on his body to allow a rapid weight loss, it was all muscle, the very thing that contributed to his explosiveness. It was evident in the 1st Tarver fight although he got the nod. Jones was just not the same fighter since.
@ifluxion2 ай бұрын
Agreed man. Roy Jones going heavyweight was not like James Toney going heavyweight. Roy Jones was always well conditioned and never had much fat on his body. So he could only go up, never back down. But he tried, and he paid the price.

The first Tarver fight was epic. It was the first time Roy had to fight on will instead of skill, and he pulled it off. If he had retired after that win, he might be considered the GOAT.

He trained like a champ!! And the result... he became a champ!! People are too soft today, letting women and wokies, who don't fight, have a say in how you should train to fight. Diamonds sharpen diamonds, you can try sharpen a blade with a pillow, lol but you know the result. Humans are amazing, from hard work, not by magic or waking up one morning and trying once... you try try try and push push push, muscles need to be stressed to grow ^^ let's grow and become amazing ❤ RJJ is amazing!!

@@tyronetalyor2645 facts. In his prime dude was actually unbeatable by anybody in his natural weight class and above up to heavyweight. That was his limit. Once he fought Carver coming back down had effected his body. His lighting speed was gone over night. But when he was at middle weight he was making Top guys look amateur. To the point they claimed he wasn't fighting anybody. He beat up everybody he could in his era. N made them look like they just started boxing.
