I think it's funny how people initially were sour on Funky Kong, only to be blindsided by Pauline showing up after him. I love that none of us were expecting more than two characters, yet somehow they gave us 4. Also hard to be all that upset about Peachette when Diddy Kong finally joined and two fan-favorites came with him. With them, I can now safely say that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's roster is finally better than Mario Kart Wii's (especially since the entirety of the MKW roster is now in MK8D :P ).

I was genuinely surprised to see Birdo and Diddy Kong announced as DLC characters for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe; I had assumed they were already part of the game. They deserved a spot in the original Mario Kart 8's base roster for the Wii U. It's remarkable that, despite their presence in both Mario Kart Double Dash!! and Mario Kart Wii, it took nearly a decade for their inclusion!
