Gardevoir was the first 3-stage evolution psychic type that didn't require a gimmick to evolve. It was balanced without being overpowered and had a focus on special attack which paired nicely with its psychic typing. You could catch a Ralts early on and because none of the starters had secondary psychic typing, the Ralts would provide type coverage and naturally become a core team member. Of course this pokemon was going to be good from a gameplay experience perspective. From a design perspective, Gardevoir is beautiful without becoming sexual and totally avoids the problems that later generations have with humanoid pokemon designs - namely that they look like dudes in a furry suit.

I feel thissss, I grew up with Emerald (as the first one that I played with half a brain, rather than mashing A thru all of silver), and I caught a rare Pokémon early in the game! I caught Ralts, and stuck with it for the entire game, so Gardevoir was one of my favorites. Then I played Pearl, and I love bunnies. I caught a Buneary early on, and loved having a Lopunny… Also loved Ankha, she was one of my starting villagers in New Leaf, and I loved the Egyptian Aesthetic. Funny how that’s all worked out…

My favourite villiger was ankha too. I don't mind fan art depicting some (emphasis on some) villigers like that so much. Previous to NH she acted very full of herself, so i always made it out that she would partake in *that* as representation of her more egotistical persona (though not many peices are correctly illustrative of that, but they do exist). The problem is that there is a culture that has normalised the prevalence of such conversation, and made it so people assume that's the reason I like the character. Gardevior is just objectively one of the best pokemon to have. It's a Medieval Knight (literally called Sir Knight in japanese) crossed with a guardian Lovecraftian horror that might be mistaken for an angel, then crossed again with a ballerina dancer. It's devoted to protecting you in a world so dangerous you can't leave your house without a pokemon escort, it has a wide variety of offensive, defensive, and support moves. It's habitat is an URBAN environment so it's literally evolved to live in cities and around civilized areas, you don't have to worry about it smashing walls apart. And to top it all off these things hit harder than arceus.

I think the worst part about about this stuff simply boils down to peer pressure. The internet is a place of freedom. I myself enjoy R34 as another part of the internet and I don't judge people for most of their likes and dislikes. I don't see Gardevoir, Tifa and co as something lewd but I enjoy their lewd drawings nonetheless. The only moment I see problem in the R34 culture is when it actively has a negative impact on someones life. Okay I actually related to Alpha on the fact that it's like Gardevoir had that classy dress look but as soon as I got Twitter which was over two years ago I regretted it, she was never my favorite that still goes between Aipom, and Dewott (And no I just like they're designs).
