My dad was a U.S. Army Ranger in WWII, often behind enemy lines. To be honest I think he had PTSD, but it wasn't called that back then. He didn't like to talk about the war, but when he saw this sketch when it first aired he almost fell out of his chair laughing. I like to think that he's up in heaven shaking Tim Conway's hand right now. RIP Dad and Tim.

I Believe the term was called "Shell Shock". Being born in 71, my family would watch this show every chance they had. The golden age of comedy, which also seems to be a lost art. Comedy today is anything but what once was.

@@NuisanceMan I don't think they were condoning or glorifying Nazi-ism at all, but rather likely ridiculing it by getting people to laugh at it. Times were way different back then and comedy didn't have to tiptoe around sensitive issues, like today. Just my opinion, of course. Yes, I lived through that period and watched those shows on TV. Compared to the raunchiness of comedy that followed, this show was indeed wholesome.

Lyle didn’t know the puppet was coming. The look of “Wtf?” on his face is genuine, him hitting back the puppet is improv, all of it. As soon as Conway saw them start to crack, he’d get that gleam in his eye like I’ve got them now. I give Lyle credit for lasting as long as he did, but as soon as Tim took out the “club”, he was a goner. I think they had to keep the camera on them because if they switched to Harvey, you’d have seen him cracking up for sure. Absolute comedic genius was Tim Conway- like Robin Williams, he could simply be funny at any second

I saw Tim Conway and Tom Poston in a play in Dallas. After the show, they came out to talk to the audience. In the middle of talking about how much he likes doing this play (which he wrote), Conway suddenly says, “Of course, if Carol calls, I’m out of here.” And Tom Poston follows with, “Yeah, if Bob (Newhart) calls me…” I think those lines got a bigger laugh than anything in the actual play.

I was saddened to hear this morning that Tim Conway had passed away. I immediately thought of this skit and went looking for it online. It's one of the few comedy routines I can remember seeing on TV during my childhood. It's as hysterical as I remember. Thanks, Tim. Looking forward to hearing someday how you made St. Peter crack up when you arrived. Rest in peace.

Yes! Tim Conway was wasted on the comedy show McHale’s Navy. That show was my first exposure to Conway, and he showed none of the comic genius he displayed on The Carol Burnett Show because he was restricted to having to stick to the script. When I finally saw what he was capable of on Burnett’s show, I was genuinely surprised and impressed. I had no idea how truly hilarious he could be. Burnett’s show had the Dream Team of comedy in Burnett, Korman, Conway and Vicki Lawrence. And Lyle Waggoner, before he left.

That was so funny. Hey you have a nice channel yourself. I subbed after looking it over. I did love the Carol Burnett show, I used to have to get all my schoolwork and if it was my night to wash the dishes, that too before I could watch TV. It was great motivation. I hit them books before supper and if it was my turn, I got the dishes done as fast as I could so I could get to watch. The two things that I loved, My dad put a TV in the kitchen. A year or so later, he bought a dishwasher. I still had to load it, and scrub the pans in the sink, but somehow, watching Barney Miller made that easier :)

When Harvey Korman left to star in his own show, there was a big hole left because of his absence. As good as Dick Van Dyke was, he couldn’t fill Korman’s shoes and it was painfully obvious. But Korman’s own show didn’t do well in the ratings. He belonged on The Carol Burnett Show with that comedy Dream Team, he needed them, they needed him.
