IPA may be dead for home brewers but as a professional brewer and brewery sales manager I can tell you the IPA (and it's variants) are not going anywhere anytime soon on a commercial scale. @@sk8nchill52 I'm just saying that because Claw hammer Supply is mostly a Homebrew shop and most of their content is geared towards home brewers. Has something changed with IPAs and hoppy styles in general. To me all of them tends to taste the same boring almost stale "generic hop". I rarely get the juicy pungent hop flavors anymore. Are hop crops changing somehow (climate? something else?). Or is my palate changing? I don't remember hoppy beers tasting like this (even the good ol' well known beers). Also I don't think I am getting numb of the hops because last couple of years I have been steering away from hoppy styles and I have been drinking more of those cleaner and balanced styles like German and Czech lagers and milder Porters etc.

To say I'm not an IPA fan is an understatement, of the many I've sampled I can count the number I didn't immediately dislike on my hands likely with room to double that number. Not saying breweries shouldn't make them, they just aren't for me, but I do see how breweries trying to stand out within the style (and others) have gone overboard and moreso seem to be trying to pull in a less discerning, less beer educated crowd. It's really similar to the proliferation of nasty, sweet "pastry" stouts and porters which are a generally loathsome take on styles I do like. While I am admittedly a bit of a traditionalist when it comes to beer styles I am not opposed to some crazy experimentation, in fact while I almost always dislike the addition of lactose to porters and stouts, I've actually found that the addition of lactose often tames a lot of what I dislike in an IPA. Unfortunately as many breweries are bought up by large conglomerates we will likely continue to see them attempting to find the sort of mass market appeal that is almost the opposite of what craft brewing does really well, which often works great in a local/regional market but not so much in a national mass distribution. Given that I have around 30 breweries within a reasonable drive I don't really bother much with nationally distributed beers other than some occasional purchases, and those tend to be imported or barrel finished beers.

So I used to brew at home a lot. Had all the cool stuff, kegs and all. I had a buddy who went pro and now works at deschutes brewery. Anyway, I recently got back into it after about 8 years not brewing. I’ve been making single gallon batches on the stove. I asked my buddy for a little bit of hops for my brew. He left 20 pounds of hops on my porch. Citra and mosaic he said. So I will be forced to attempt an ipa 😂 simply because I have way too many hops to ever use in my life. I vacuum sealed them all and put them in the freezer. If I knew anyone or how to go about it, I would give most away. Problem is that I don’t know any other brewers than the guy who gave me the hops. I don’t use social media either so I guess I’m stuck with more hops than I will ever need.

I'd love to see a detailed video about why to change from my 22 oz. bottling to your new keg system. What components do I need to purchase and why. What components are nice to have and why. What are the advantages and disadvantages of kegging vs bottling. I only brew during cooler weather when I can ferment in my basement - will keg fermenting change that? Do I need a kegerator or can the keg fermenter sit in the corner of my basement? Your keg playlist really doesn't do much to sell the product. Thanks much!
@JamesChurchill314 күн бұрын
Kegging for serving is so much easier than bottling, there's less to clean, less to store and less chance of introducing oxygen to your beer. If you're fermenting in a keg, the main benefit is being able to do pressure fermentation, but also being able to do closed transfers to your serving keg which reduces the chance for oxygen ingress to your beer. Personally I don't have much space for fermenting in so I can fit 3 kegs in where I'd only be able to have 2 bucket fermenters so that's another bonus. Fermenting kegs can sit at room temperature or you can wrap heat pads around them to ferment warmer, or there's actually the option of the Brew tools MiniUni cooling jacket if you need to bring your fermenter lower than ambient (and have a glycol chiller).

Unfortunately a bunch of "breweries" have been using it as a cheat code for too long to add another sku to their offerings. IPA has become a marketing gimmick to try and grab a bit more space on the shelf, and everyone is doing it. I'd be happy to see it be done and over and get more interesting Sours, Kolschs, Porters, and Stouts. C'mon breweries show us you got more skill than just hucking some new hop blend in the tank and drawing up a dippy label for it.

Obviously a clickbait title, but it's a conversation worth having. IPAs (particularly hazy) have taken over in such a huge way. The way sours did for a minute. Many breweries make mediocre beers and can hide it by dropping several hazies at once on their tap list. Some are amazing. Even the milkshakes. I make a mango coconut milkshake and it's delicious. But I fear it's put a lot of breweries in a spot where they aren't actually producing amazing beers, and they're neglecting styles that are more nuanced and approachable. I'd love to see some balance start to come back in the next year or two.

Sums it up at the end... "This is all just a shameless promotion..." Although, I concur, the "Four Loko-ization" of the IPA is stupid and for what, for whom? Ancecdotally, I've watched the women in my circle of friends start to swap reviews, on the hoof, regarding new sours that are popping up, seemingly everyday, at more of the high profile breweries around our area. The flavors have gotten pretty silly, but I've seen some interesting converts among my friends. So, if sales are the objective and of course they are, then I don't see this changing any time soon which also goes for IPA's. Most of my friends like to drink, a lot, so cost enters the picture earlier on than for those with too much money or can leave a pub having only had one pint all night. For my friends, 12 to 15 bucks on 4 cans of peanut butter and banana sour is only going to happen once or twice. The point is, the occasional novel sour is a treat and we'll go back to our more affordable blue collar IPA's. The reality is the next time we want a Peanut Butter and Banana sour, it'll be gone, it's always a one-off... What is the house sour now? Blood Orange and Bubblegum? Okay, just one...

I like Juice Force every once in a while, but Fruit Force was gross. I had another beer recently that reminded me of Fruit Force’s Hawaiian Punch flavor, but was somehow actually decent. I can’t remember what it was though.

@@ClawhammerSupply Alright brother. I am leaning towards buying a clawhammer system for black friday. Can you convince me it's the best all in one electric system!?

ive been on sours for a while, nothing would make me happier than sours overtaking ipas in the craft beer market

I actually can't drink sours that much, I don't mind the flavour but they give me horrendous heartburn.

dawg this beer has been out for over a year and the industry has responded by going back to the core style of the IPA or focusing on branching of hazy ipas into their own category as it deserves. the industry media moves fast, but the industry itself moves as fast as the consumer. adjunct IPAs have consistently faded away but of course you don't care since the point of this video is stirring the foam and selling your shit as you say at the end of the video. you will find yourself producing the same kind of beer you criticize here in the future.

Just because New Belgium is brewing shit it doesn't mean IPA's are done. Tell that to Trillium and Tree House

Its been dead for a decade lol. We've all been choking that shit down for years going "uh yeah this is great...." when secretly hating it

IPA is really just a marketing term at this point. It's something people associate with craft and therefore people are excited by it. If you'd call this a fruit punch ale it would sell worse.

Fruit Force is ass. No doubt. But Voodoo Ranger Imperial is still damn fine beer. IPA's are fine folks. Just because Fruit Force sucks balls doesn't mean there aren't other great IPAs being created.

Do you guys have a how to brew a Doppelbock video? Looking how to do decoction properly.

It's so weird seeing this video pop up on my feed. I have been thinking to myself for some time now that IPA's are dead....finished.....overdone. I don't even enjoy them anymore because it just seemed like it was a race for who could make their beer the most hazy and bitter. Throw in these weird milkshake/cereal/fruit punch/whatever concoctions and it just becomes barf-icide. Worst hangovers ever too.

Those voodoo ranger beers are gross. Tastes like they’re covering up bad beer with hops, and covering up bad hops with sugar
@Orxbane10 күн бұрын
Thank God! The worst beer ever created. When can I expect the wall of microbrew beers in my grocery store to not be almost exclusively IPAs?

thank you! someone had to put this in the universe

I agree, this has been a problem for the last year or so. The pale ale will rise! Fear not though, real ipa's will come back with the hype gone
