As a mini 6 user, there's something magical about the device. It's substantially bigger than my phone and still pocketable. It's a substantially different experience from a phone or gigantic tablet. I'm planning to update to a cellular mini 7, seems great to be able to carry this around.

I had the mini 6 and I liked it a lot but the lack of storage, ram and stuttering made it less usable for me. However the mini 7 fixed everything for me. I have never noticed the jelly scrolling, the 60hz LCD is fine, and it’s a perfect device for teaching, watching movies and taking notes.
@andrewcrossley24482 ай бұрын
I saw the jelly scrolling big time on the 6 in my Apple Store in portrait mode, so sent my 6 back unopened but kept the pencil 2 to use with my newer M1 11in iPad Pro. I called into the same shop yesterday to see if the JS was still there. The answer is definitely yes but markedly less obvious in portrait mode. In landscape mode it’s not there. It’s all to do with the internal orientation of the boards apparently to ensure pencils can charge. As most dynamic use cases for the mini (games, video etc) are in landscape mode, and the same for writing and typing, it’s only really prominent when scrolling through newsfeeds etc. For the reading apps like Kindle, in portrait mode the user can change to page refresh/turn rather than scrolling. Newspapers are another issue but again, turning to landscape works fine and the font is larger too. Overall the 7 is a decent improvement as the ram and SSD are both double for the same price. With iCloud 128gb is a reasonable size. For those with small iCloud accounts maybe the 256gb is the sweet spot. For me, the difference in price funded the majority of the pencil pro’s price with my education discounts. Why do I want (not need) a mini? As a lecturer it’s great for both prompt notes when walking the floor (one hand, light, unobtrusive) and for writing notes etc on the fly. As I’m getting on a bit, even an IPhone 15 pro max is too small for this and has no pencil function. The 2Tb pro 11 is on another level. I use that for reading papers, articles and marking things up and it works well for connecting to monitors and as a second screen to my MBP13.

I just ordered one. I’m pretty excited. I’m an artist and my iPad Pro m4 13” is unmatched and my favorite device, but I don’t like having to take it everywhere. I’m excited to have a little mini sketch book to bring around when I wanna do some doodling without having the big ass iPad everywhere. Update: I returned it. It was a fun, well built little device, but after going tandem OLED with the M4 pro I found myself missing that every time I grabbed this thing and always ended up just grabbing the pro. Even though the pro is huge in comparison it’s still my go to for just about everything.

In my case, with the exception of the Lenovo Y700 (which is not officially available in the US) the iPad mini is the best 8" tablet around. I had a 2018 Samsung Tab A 8" but it became slow as molasses even after a factory reset. Also Samsung stopped supporting it. My son has just ordered a 2024 Lenovo Y700. I'll check it out and either get one or a new Mini with 255gb. My 2023 Mini only has 64gb which was a dumb buying decision by me at the time. I also have a company 2021 iPad Pro 13" with magic keyboard. I would never want such a large device for my own needs. Maybe an 11" I actually prefer a tablet not to have a keyboard attached. The onscreen one is good enough for most typing. Finally, I love the Pixel Android experience over any iPhone. The 9 Pro is outstanding.

@elijahdelacruz32042 ай бұрын
An OLED display and high refresh rate is not logical business wise right now for Apple. Putting in just one of those features will significantly bump up the iPad Mini’s price point and would make it more expensive than the base 11 inch iPad Air because even the iPad Air does not have an OLED display nor a high refresh. Keep in mind the Mini is $499, the 11 inch Air is $599. If Apple did one of those upgrades right now it would kill the sales of one of those devices - most likely the Mini as people will see it’s more expensive than the larger and more powerful iPad Air. As for the CPU in the Mini, the A17 Pro and 8gb ram combo is plenty powerful enough for it already, as proven by other reviewers videos on how it breezes through triple A games like Resident Evil 7, and can easily handle Final Cut Pro. Putting in an M series chip in it would absolutely destroy the iPad Mini’s battery life, as its battery is only around 650mah bigger than the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s battery. That’s a small increase in battery size for a large display increase from 6.7 inches to 8.3 inches. Apple would have to massively underclock the M series chip if they were to put it in the iPad Mini, so at that point using the iPhone processors just makes more sense.
@sayori19892 ай бұрын
I like the mini because it’s portable and fits inside small bags/large pockets. However fact that the new one doesn’t come with an M chip means there isn’t really any incentive to upgrade from my current one - very disappointing.

🍐I love this form factor and baffled because why Samsung is not contesting this device at all, expecially when the Tab series dropped the regular size. If they thought the regular size was too unpopular to even bother manufacturing, they could've tried a mini form factor in the Tab S series. a 8.3" Tab S10 Mini with 120Hz screen and smaller bezels could've been a save face for Samsung for a very iterative Tab S line refresh and simultaneously push Apple to look bad with this Mini 7, so a Mini 8 that's not stunted by Apple's habit of cutting corners and saving features for the next generation could've arrived sooner than later. I know the average Joes want bigger screens but portability should be the next trend in the industry. What a shame...

The majority of tech influencers only know how to complain about iPad mini not having OLED display and 60 hz refresh rate. They forgot that these will bump up the price of mini. For average user like me, mini is perfect in every sense and the price point. The divide between influencer and average consumer shows that influencers are out of touch
@jonvaliagas2 ай бұрын
Hey, OLED really is not that expensive. The reasoning the Mini doesn’t get it though is because of production scale, and cost per unit for the quantity they’d order. I’m talking a difference of dollars though, with the iPhone - because of how many units are sold, the price per (x) display is much lower

I’ve been researching the new mini. To give my iPhone 13 mini a break and also my eyes. Jelly scrolling why are we even talking about it and why is everybody bringing it up. And yes Apple’s gonna keep ignoring you because they have the data. Please put the word out I wanna see somebody videoed their selves scrolling and reading every single word and that would explain why Apple’s not fixing the problem. Like you said when you’re reading a book or scrolling through some things you’re mostly looking at a picture or a big headline. But when you get to the smaller text you stop you read you scroll you read you scroll you read please show me somebody that the way you guys are scrolling you can actually read every single line in detail every word. I don’t think anyone can speed read that fast to be worried about some jelly scrolling but yet you’re all talking about it but I don’t see you scrolling and reading so why do you care why does anyone bring it up and that’s why Apple doesn’t really care about fixing it. Maybe if you video yourself scrolling causing the Jelly Roll and you’re reading every word but you’re messing up because of the Jelly Roll I think Apple would maybe fix it then

My Samsung Tab S9 is much more useful than most ipads, but I have the Mini 7 because of the form factor. Poor display and jelly scrolling drag it down. Battery life is better than the Mini 6 but that's not saying much. I find wifi coverage worse than my Samsung Z Flip 6. But there is no competition in the Android space.

It's just weird like I think if samsung sold a mini tab s9 it would sell like hotcakes because 120hz, micro sd, oled is what the ipad is missing (unless pro) and m chips aren't really necessary for tablets. but instead samsung shoots itself in the foot and doesn't even make a s10 size lol Like a mini can be used for oled gaming like a switch and is more useful than a switch because of writing capabilities and even what pilots and health professionals use because it's easy to carry

Apple clearly doesn't care about the iPad Mini that much, as sales isn't high enough for them to upgrade it properly. Mini 7 got a decent spec bump so it can join in on Apple's AI hype train, but that's about it. It's sad that after 3 years of no refresh or redesign, this new Mini still has jelly scrolling problems and is still using the same dated 60Hz LCD screen with thick bezels. My $200 Lenovo Tab Pro 2nd Gen has a beautiful 120Hz OLED screen that's just a bit worse than my M4 iPad Pro's OLED screen. Only fanboys and certain businesses will be buying this iPad Mini 7.
@Toyeboy892 ай бұрын
Oh yeah your Lenovo tablet that doesn’t get anymore updates and has about 1/3rd of the performance of the A17 pro? Apple updated what matters to more people: the performance. The screen is perfectly fine I have an iPad Pro 11 m1 with 120hz and now a 60hz iPad mini 7. Apple’s 60hz displays are smooth and it doesn’t matter to me at all. A 120hz OLED would kill battery life on the mini and they don’t want to increase battery size to add weight because that’s what makes it so nice to hold.

Never have I been so convinced that Apple are paying a large number of tech influencers on KZbin for their product reviews. I own the iPad mini 6 and I have to say it is one of the worst tablets I have ever bought. It is overpriced for what it offers, the screen is pretty poor, the speakers are quiet, and iPadOS simply is not optimized for the wider than normal screen ratio. I think it is the only widescreen type device that Apple offers in its tablet range. But iPadOS does not work well with it that is for sure! The number of reviews on KZbin stating to the world that iPad mini 7 is a must buy device for everybody proves to me that there is no integrity on this platform. My partner has bought it and I honestly can tell very little difference between the new one and the one that I have. The jelly scrolling has not been fixed even though it doesn’t really matter to me and the icons on the screen are still too small and there are large gaps still remaining. I really can’t tell if the new chip is faster or if the extra RAM makes a difference because at the end of the day, iPadOS is so restrictive anyway. And there is no Apple intelligence!! My partner thought that there was a fault with her iPad because she couldn’t access the AI functions. Apple is running a massive charade here. Why are they selling this thing based on Apple Intelligence when it doesn’t even exist currently? People will do well to note that this iPad offers no flexibility or value. And you cannot even connect the iPad mini 7 up to an external display to use stage manager despite the extra RAM and the new chip. Apple is a scam 😂
