Excellent discussion and very relevant in our times. One of the challenges, as mentioned, is that many Muslims feel as if they can not contribute because their actions aren't "Islamic" enough or specifically relevant to revealed knowledge or information. However, if we're to consider the engineer who builds vehicles and develops innovation for society, the doctor who treats people and advises patients, the teacher who may be teaching literature or science to enable a better group of youth for the future, these are all clearly actions with blessings and can/should be viewed as Islamic. One key issue in this discussion is the substantial lack of countering thoughts and opinions to this issue of secularism. Dr. Jackson and others are certainly addressing it, but much of the Muslim world has given up as they view the line as being drawn in the sand. But in any event, such issues are part of generational development and it may take another one hundred years to turn the tide back towards a more balanced approach. The key is maintaining a steady approach and praying that future generations improve on the current ideals.

Secularism is its own entity and Islam is something else all together. If you mean the permissible things outside the origins of the Prophet and the Sahaba's cultural norms, this isالاحكام العادية و العقلية Custom and Intellectual Rulings as they pertain to the Sharia. While Secularism is a departure from Sharia having any status in decision making or input for determinations in affairs. Secularism is a product of the Apostasy movement of the Enlightenment period.

Whilst what you say is true, there is no secularism in Islam. However, the reality is that many Muslims have not even made aware of this. Maybe you should have more patience and try learning something new?
