I for one would have mentioned the Nuremberg trial findings after the former reservist talked about being ordered to to burn down a house without military necessity for the act. That's a perfect example of a soldier being issued an illegal order and doing his duty by refusing to obey that order. This is not simply a case of a few conscientious Israeli soldiers, all should be refusing criminal orders such as this. That is one of the main lessons from Nuremberg, that there is no excuse to committing war crimes and crimes against humanity in time of war. But DW obviously doesn't dare pointing that out. The laws of war, human rights and other parts of international law apply to all and one cannot exempt one group from their obligations.

The IDF is the pinnacle of high tech, holding historic databases of each and every Palestinian born with face recognition technology, wall to wall CCTV, drones, limitless 2000lb bombs which leave 300ft craters, tanks, helicopters, AI tech, rocket launchers, etc. etc. This is not a war, it is an illegal annihilation of a civilian population. Under international law, Israel does not have the right to defend itself against a people that it itself occupies (as confirmed by the UN) where as Hamas does have under international law the right to resist using any military means available, but within the rules of international law and engagement.
