Joe Rogan wasn’t wrong in how Lentz conducted himself. Spiritual leaders are held to a higher standard.

I have to agree bud. The Bible actually says (in other words) that being a teacher of God, is not to be taken lightly. It is a serious thing.

@@luckyluciano1340 there are many ways the Bible talks about that. It’s a slippery slope which is why I personally haven’t rushed back into minstry after my fall 3 years ago. I know from personal experience that God will smash you if He loves you so you can stop heaping up hot coal. God smashed my life. What’s sad is I was changing the world as we know it and a girl came, I got obsessed, made her my god in a sense, and my desire for Godliness changed and it became more of a performance than my heart. It’s not to be messed with. Here is one scripture.. “My brethren, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment” James 3:1 and another “2:1-2 “But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction. And many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of truth will be blasphemed”

@@jamessmith6987 Well you repent. You are human too brother. I'm sure God has forgiven you. I may not be a spiritual leader, never have been, or never been a pastor. But I've made some whopping mistakes and lost my family and my marriage because of it. I regret it every single day of my life. Probably always will but I do believe God forgives me and can forgive those who truly repent and correct their ways and you clearly have. I agree with the pastor on that. But I do agree with the OP too. He was clearly behaving inappropriately but then again, so have I before. So who am I to judge? Maybe he truly can repent and correct his ways too? He definitely needs to do it out of the spotlight now though and remove himself from the lifestyle that has led to his downfall. Which I have tried to do and am doing myself. For me it's alcohol. Alcohol led to my downfall. It made me into something I'm not. So yeah I definitely can't judge anyone.

Loved that you shed light on the fact that this moral failure isn’t a result of the size church or fame he had but simply because he’s human & that many pastors have the same celebrity complex no matter the size of church .. loved the monologue.. thanks 👍🏼

The issue they face we also face. Temptation, pride, etc. Once our focus has shifted from pleasing God to pleasing ourselves, we are driven away by our own lust and desires. But PRIDE seems to always be the root cause. Talking from my failures...As believers we need to keep our eyes on JESUS.

I had a pastor for years that was in recovery from alcohol and drugs and had done crazy things in his early years....one of the best guys I have ever known and he was so much more relatable bc, of his honesty. He had walked through fire and came out the other side and walked the walk later in his life!

As Christians we are constantly exposed to temptations. The Bible warns us. I became a Christian in my early twenties. I was not from a Christian family. In the beginning I became very excited about everything. I went to Bibeschool and for a while I actually wanted to go into full time service. But I went to a Christian college to study media. It was in Stockhom (I am actually from a small villages) it was a mixed college. Christians and non Christians, and I ended up reacting in a revolting to my own strictness as a new Christian. I ended up in a outline of celebrities with competition and temptation. I did not deny my faith but I feel ashamed to look at myself during that time. However after some years I had moved abroad came back to my faith but had married a no Christian man. I worked as an air hostess, and again I ended up slowly like a boiling frog living more in the world. And it did happened quite a few times more. Me and my husband divorced and I thought I could live as a private Christian among non Christians. I always had my faith. I did not go so well. As a single mother in a custody battle over nations I finally fell hard. Ibecame exhausted and just through myself in to a relationship with a non Christian man I never should have been with. And because I had my faith, but made it distorted from my own desires I rushed us to marry, wich we did. And it was the biggest mistake I ever made. I am still suffering from the consequences even if the marriage was quite short and I am divorced again. I feel condemned by the Christians I used to have some connection to, and I judge myself since I did have a nagging feeling in me not to marry that man and still I did. It is to hard for me to go to a church or to contact a community. I have been referred to therapy through the health care, but I long much to get in touch with someone that can speak to me from a Spiritual perspective. And you will not found a therapist like that in the Swedish common health care. A leader has of course even a higher standard to live up to. I don't excuse his behaviour but it is true that our flesh is in a constant battle with our spirit. And if we are not careful and live close to God, with a community of people who believe the same the flesh will most likely win. And we don't really see that. We think higher of our spirituality than what it is. We truly often believe that our spirit is more in charge than it is. That our faith alone can prevent us from falling. Still we are always effected of the people in our surroundings. Well, what I want to say is that because we see a Christian who fall short or to behave wrongly, it doesn't necessary mean that his/her intentions was bad to start with. Maybe not even when it happened. It is obviously wrong, but it is so easy to end up in a kind of self fraud and even self betrayal (in lack of better words) A Christian that fall (and a Pastor to that, and a celebrity one as well) How judged will he not be? On an official stage from both Christians and non Christians. I guess what I want to say is we shouldn't be to hard. At least not assume that his intentions was wrong to start with. But I do understand that non Christians will point finger and see it all as hypocrisy. There is a Jewish saying, that God himself prays "What is God's prayer? 'O , that My mercy shall prevail over My justice" I think it is beautiful.

I believe we are called to call out blatant flaws in others. I wish others had the courage to call out some of my flaws in the past. We must remember how Paul called out Alexander the coppersmith by name and blatantly rejected his opposition to the message. Joe Rogan is simply telling it like it is here. Fake devotion is fake devotion. Any professing Christian who cannot see this should examine themselves. We are not given a monopoly on God, truth, and love. God is working toward the salvation of all. Of course, we accept all who sincerely repent. All repentance involves life transformation. God is inviting us to surrender totally, not focus excessively on getting people to buy specific theories of atonement ( the big one I don’t ) and/or denominational distinctive ( teachings and practices ). The center of authentic Christianity is discipleship to Jesus. What is his message?: “ This is the message we have heard of him and proclaim to you, God is light and in him is no darkness at all, none.” God bless!

There is way more to this CL story than this incident. Christians have to be discerning about pastors and preachers. So weather a celebrity or not, their lives and what they preach should stay on the biblical line. Thanks for the perspective, I do agree with what was said here by Mark.

It's funny... I found myself agreeing with a lot of what Joe said, but then I was kind of irked that he wouldnt give grace. Then I had to slap myself into reality and remind myself that I did not have a realistic expectation. Joe has no reason to give grace if he's not a believer, and he is clearly disgusted with the examples he is talking about in celebrity pastors. It's sad to see the view unbelievers have of pastors. It's also sad the pedestal some congregations and communities put a pastor on. It's a fine line to live when you're in pastoral ministry... And by the grace of God go I. Pastors need prayer and continual accountability. Really... We all do. Whew!!!

I don’t think it’s about “Christian” celebrity. It’s about celebrity in general! Also, I think the issue is putting pastors and leaders on a pedestal as though they are different from their followers. Yes, they should strive to better people and better leaders but no different from any other person. If we expose the backsliding of a leader, then we should also expose the backsliding of members of the congregation in the same manner. He who is without sin... The issue is elevating leaders beyond who they are, both in actuality and in our hearts. They are just people, the same as us. We are all in the same world together.

You have to remember that we allowed this man to represent us to the world. We stood back and fell for what he was saying. If you sell yourself to be better, you have a long way to fall when you’re found to be weak. He didn’t make a mistake, he’s a fraud.

The first thing a spiritual leader must have is humility, true. I agree with that. Mind you, I'm nobody special to society and I could use some more of it myself. I'd be the first to admit that... Coz pride can be my downfall too. Has been in so many of the best times of my life and I lost it all. All because of pride. So I can't really judge. That said, I'm not a spiritual leader and I agree that yes, they need to be held to a certain standard as spiritual and community mentors and be a good example of God's love and holiness. That said, at the end of the day they're only human too. Even the Pope.

He sin gave in temptation he became Judas suppose to be Moral Suppose draw people to repents drawing to know Jesus teaching them how spread word to others. So answer he isn't with Jesus if was he wouldn't do it first place. It was long before then turn from lord you can look at his teaching doesn't a line with word. Unless he repents turns away from sin comes to Jesus he will be forgive then result of letting sin take over you and this Judas because did same which led him to betray Jesus and End putting him on cross.

I just don’t get the feeling that Lentz was a celebrity pastor, but more of a celebrity, acting as a pastor. It doesn’t seem to me that preaching the truth of Jesus was his priority…. Just a way to becomes known as a “cool pastor“, and get into the celebrity circle. He loves hearing himself talk, getting all the attention, and definitely won’t preach truth if it’s going to offend people.

Leave people alone. Don't mission you don't have to assemble in groups to pray to what or who to believe in. We don't need a church, a pastor, a rabbi or Priest to tell us what to believe in. I just cannot believe in a supernatural human being who worked miracles. You have no proof of God and creation. I love people and I love science and proof of existing things in the universe but for some things like a God or Jesus (supernatural human being who said he worked miracles) is just not logical. You fear dying and you adopt a religion with false narratives.
@AdamSpade
@AdamSpade 3 жыл бұрын
Saying there is no God because there is no proof is like a video game character claiming there is no programmer because he hasn't seen any sign of him. It's unscientific and biased on the basis of ones own desires. Considering everything points to a universe that came from nothing, you might want to rethink why you have your stance. Jesus Christ had thousands of eye witnesses of Him performing miracles. It was not self proclaimed. The record is in multiple books included in the Bible, as well as many others outside of the Bible. Jesus is also in Roman records, so we know He existed. He is the most widely known person in the world today because of the impact He made. Now, how does "I just cannot believe in a supernatural human being who worked miracles" work when the person is God born flesh? Because that is exactly what Jesus claimed to be. The story is that God is alone in nature, He says He is Love and desires a family who loves Him. But He can't allow anything against Him to exist within His Kingdom. So He creates a way to have a family through a courtroom type solution where we are justified through a marriage to His Son, Jesus Christ. This explains why we appear to be in a sort of hologram simulation type environment where God does not interact with us directly. We are in a containment to keep us safe from that judgment of God, where we would be turned away. And whether that is a real lake of fire or metaphorically speaking, we don't want to go there, because it means we will be apart from God's family, and that, itself, would be hell.
