Ford should really cover the hybrid heat exchanger for 8 years because its a hybrid component; as it doesn't exist on non-hybrid vehicles. I just had to schedule my F150 for service because the valve was squeaking every time the engine would switch between ICE/electric.

This is a very informative video. I'll have to check my coolant lines and valve motor wiring for evidence of malfunctions. I drove my hybrid home last October and currently have 1k problem free miles.

I wonder if that was corrected for the 2023. Mine finally came. Been loving it. Already at 2100 kilometers in the 2 weeks I've had er. All my previous fors made it into their late 350,000s I'm hoping the maverick will hold up too.

Less than a year, and my check engine light came on. They replaced the exhaust system Took a few months to get it. The clanking break system seems to have been fixed with a software update. The engine fire recall was solved when the dealer drilled some holes in one of the plastic pieces. Still waiting for side curtain airbags recall.

My problem on my Escape hybrid is the wire/connector for the heat exchanger. It was hanging down and got damaged. Dealer says warranty wont cover fixing because I must have hit something. There are no repair parts available from Ford other than to replace the entire wiring harness which would cost a few thousand dollars. Now we cant put fuel in because the manual fuel door release got pulled off by mud in the wheel well area causing a fuel door opening error. Haven't called the dealer yet but I imagine having driven on our country roads is also not allowed by warranty.

Hopefully they fix that problem for the 2023 model. I have a 2023 Ford maverick Hybrid XLT with a luxury package. Thank goodness I got the extended warranty. Of course, the day I buy my truck the check engine light came on, but it did self corrected self and go off. Hopefully they fix this problem for the 2023 model.😢

I hope that you’re right that have updated it but I’m not so sure. I have an F150 powerboost and we as you know are having the same issues. In the beginning Ford was replacing the entire heat exchanger assembly but have since updated to only changing out those 2 plastic fittings. In fact I bought a set of those fittings for my truck. Just to have on hand. They are about $4 each. My truck is well under warranty but thought I should have them anyway just in case. And I know it might seem tempting if one was out of warranty to just bypass the exchanger but I’d probably advise against that as it’s part of the hybrid battery system and that might cause under certain conditions a “reduced power” message.

Went to get my 2017 F150 serviced and I asked the mechanic about the Ford Maverick and he flat out told me don't buy a hybrid because of the issues of the heat exchanger. This is why I looked online to find this video.

Thanks for the update. My Ford dealer told me that the exchanger is only for the cabin heating and not connected to the battery system. I have my Maverick scheduled to have it replaced after throwing a P2C22 code.. Ford is going to cut it out and drop in a new one with clamps instead of replacing the entire exhaust. I'm good with that since it would make replacement easier down the road if needed...

Your dealer is wrong on what the heat exchanger does. It is used to preheat the coolant going to the battery and has nothing to do with cabin heating. Cabin heat in cold weather is primarily taken care of by the cooled EGR system.

Its frustrating that Ford can not give an estimated timeline. Also when is the recall for passenger airbag supposed to be fixed. They claim they dont have those parts either.

You mention a NEW design. Will the newest 2023 have the new design already installed? Is that under the 8 year 100K miles hybrid warranty? My build date is July 10 so wondering.

The new ones going forward should be the updated design and they are covered under the powertrain warranty

If it's related to the heat exchanger on the exhaust pipe after the cat unfortunately the whole exhaust system has to be replaced

You just cannot replace just the plastic part or just the heat exchanger. You have to replace the whole exhaust system unfortunately.

All one single large exhaust unit. Ford ships these units and 3 damaged before finally arriving in proper.
