My dog passed away earlier this week. I finally decided to watch this show after watching the sleep episode multiple times over When this episode started I had no idea within 10 minutes I was going to be sobbing like a baby. Joe just hits in a way that hasn’t happened for me with a personality in a long, long time. I really needed to see this when I did, Really helped me come to terms with having to move on

My favorite part about this scene is that in another part of the episode, Joe says that he wants to lay the pumpkin to rest the same way he wants to be. So you can just imagine Joe’s body tumbling down the falls.

Just saw this on TV and it really has the same bizarrely profound emotional weight as when, in that Werner Herzog movie, that penguin started walking into the mountains by himself or when in Cast Away Wilson starts floating away We attach so much human emotions to things that don't feel it and make ourselves sad when suddenly we lose them, like when we were children and suddenly didn't have our favorite comfort toy or security blanket In a way being upset about these things tell us that we never lost the empathy we had when we were young and still have the capacity to care for others

Sometimes we have to let go of our creations. Things that we’ve put effort, and time and maybe even some part of ourselves into. Be it a relationship that has had its last chance, a long-time friendship now separated by the rocky miles of the Appalachian mountain range, or even a jack-o-lantern that once shown so brightly on Halloween night but hasn’t been looking so good as of late. All these things drift on down river when it’s their time, and sometimes all we can do is let them go on their way. Even if it means tomorrow you might wake up in a strange new bed in a strange new place. Somewhere beyond the great pond or even the smaller one outside your house. I don’t know maybe Canada or Wisconsin.

You also get that root beer colored water up here from snow melt stewing on top of leaves in the spring. It drains out from winter-flooded forests into streams then rivers and ultimately into the big lakes, which dilute it back to colorlessness. I wish it were root beer too.

This reminds me of my childhood when my mother would sneak pumpkins into the house so my brother and I could carve Jack-O-Lanterns when my father wasn't looking because we were raised in a religious house hold that would never celebrate any holidays. We would hide our Jack-O-Lanterns under our beds so my father wouldn't notice. My mother wanted me and my siblings to have a simple and normal childhood which I love my mother so much. Thank you for making me remember that :)
