We should also keep in mind that all the jackets regardless of manufacture is tailor fitted to the actors body type and comfort level while also gaining a certain look for the show. So, the jacket may or may not fit the way you see it worn on the show. But lets be real, those jackets are sweet but would I be able to look like Kevin Costner or Cole Hauser with just a stock jacket? Probably not. 😂😉 Great video though and great info. Not sure how it ended up in my recommended but this was great. Liked and subbed.

But let's be honest almost any brand that's got any kind of following gets bought out these days so they can integrate it into their production processes to gain efficiencies (basically reduce costs and increase prices)

Schaeffers makes some great products. I love that they are made here in the US as well. Picked up the loden quilted blacktail range wax jacket a couple years ago before they were discovered. Has worn in and is excellent quality and value. Where with many Filson products (and i love Filson) you pay a premium, schaeffers really has value and quality

I've owned a number of Filson garments and the funny thing is that a waxed cotton jacket is terrible if you can't hang it inside to dry off overnight. It's not a camping out in the PNW jacket. The one's I've owned have lasted for years and it's too bad they off shored the manufacturing. Used to go to the Flagship store and get scraps or buttons to improve the stuff.

WYOMING TRADERS HAS A VERY GOOD LINE OF COATS ,BIBS,VEST's and more the wool is Australian wool, I bought the chore coat which is made to wear while riding horses with snaps on both sides the wool bibs are very soft and warm , the company gears towards Cowboy wear with a nice Y emblem on it the prices are half of Filson"s and in my opinion is a better coat

You mean when it gets cool. I’ve got a closet full of Schaefer’s coats that are 20 or more years old that were my dad’s, who died 16 years ago. But he lived at 8700 ft in cattle country in Colorado. Unfortunately, they are too big for me. Thankfully, the house fits. 😂. I love it up here.

Unfortunately, they have followed a trend of continuing to offshore most of their production. Many product are now made overseas. The only products they currently stock that are US made are their jeans and tin cloth pants. They have not put out any USA made jackets in over a year and are struggling with material shortages for their jackets. Their cover cloth jackets used to be USA made and are now overseas too. Hoping that when the tin short cruiser comes back in stock it’s still USA.

I have a number of Filson articles of clothing and three of their bags and their traditional all leather brief case (field satchel). Unbelievably well made in Seattle from bridle leather. I am hoping that a number of these higher end/higher quality manufacturers will see that production overseas is more problematic and not as profitable as producing here in the USA after the last two years of delays and complications.

Rip's jacket isn't a prototype. I had one. It's a black short lined cruiser with a dry wax finish. I sold it not long after getting it because it was too tight in the shoulders. This must have been 2-3 years back.

John's jacket is a Northwoods Jacket by Filson. Rip's is a black short lined cruiser which was offered a few years ago. Both were limited run and no longer in active production. The black short lined cruiser should be back this year, but Filson has moved production overseas.

I talked with the Filson marketing department at a clinic they had in the fall. They were having a hard time getting the waxed tin cloth and were supposed to be getting more in November. The website now just says there are supply chain problems. Hoping to order it when it comes back in stock. I like it as it comes in both regular and tall sizes.

Used to love Filson, L.L. Bean, Duluth Trading, and others. But when they decided to switch to zippers, snaps, and untraditional pocket designs and styling they lost me. I've looked at Schaefer Outfitters they done alot of the same. So I've gone to Wyoming Traders & L.C. King and a couple others. L.C. King seems to be the last maker of open back Bib Overalls even Roundhouse doesn't seem to be making them anymore. I gave up Carhartt up when they went to overseas manufacturing and didn't adjust their prices down accordingly but raised them instead. Their name isn't important enough to justify the price. Carhartt has also discontinued most of their traditional workwear as well in the last few years.........

When I bought them under their Pointer brand name they were like $35 or 40 and that 100 increase was long before our recent problems with inflation so I'm gonna guess they've increased even more.

FYI, the black Filson jacket was a couple years old. I actually own 2 of the short lined cruisers in black and dark tan. Some stores will have a random black one for sale but pretty rare. Glad I picked one up 2 years ago when I found it. Filson often cycles in and out colors and models, but this past year was a huge miss for Filson in a wide array of examples. Good review!
