Shawn, this is JK from your old RH winter practice sessions. Have had some great ball striking rounds so was plannnig to post a comment, and another excellent video is the perfect spot. Strengthening my grip even more this year, and I'm hitting it further than ever. My playing partners are amazed at how far I hit my clubs with an "easy swing". For me, with the even stronger grip, my mind knows that I can hold the lag without fear of the club face being dynamically open. I can hold the lag, and "collect and release" the ball. Crushing my driver and irons, especially with draws. And the draws are gentle draws. You give all your students a great understanding of the key fundamentals, and watching your videos regularly just deepens my understanding.

I now realize that when I was a teen and in my twenties, I unknowingly swung with your method, but I failed to turn the club in my hands to avoid hitting it to the right. To compensate, I’d align to the left instead. Now at 54, I’ve lost the swing of my youth but finally understand what it was and look forward toward working to get it back!

Hey Shawn! Another gem of a video. Its funny, many of us grew up with perfect lag hitting wiffle balls in the back yard and then into youth baseball. This was my path. Then, when I began golfing in my 20s, with the ball sitting perfectly still on the ground in front of me... I neglected to use any of the kinetic skills from my youth to apply hitting that golf ball. This blows my mind. Enough history. This concept is one I'm working on with my coach and the results are absolutely mind numbing (good!). Everything you present is simple to apply and integrate. Keep e'm coming! 🤟🤩

Hey Joe! It is called the human kinetic chain, a self preserving reflex action that starts from the ground in the lead leg and works up through the core, through the arm club unit and through the club head. Please go to our premium site at www.wisdomingolfpremium.com and see our “kinetic chain series” and our “kinetic chain facilitation and ENGAGEMENT series” then see our “throwing series” and all the videos with the word “release” in them and finally the “goldilocks series” and “target confirmation series” When you lock into the target with the use of momentum and a solid task, (task 2.0 series) what comes out on the target side should be a free wheeling release in that direction; when this is confirmed that this was clearly your task and what you were staying with, amazing things happen and you get to observe patterns that will lead you to simple adjustments in the grip and set up that will sharpen your swing like crazy!

Oh my Gosh, I used to use that leadbetter drill, I believe his instruction stuff Ruined my swing. I knew when Lydia Ko had started using him, that her game would go, proof, it surely did. She is young enough and fighting to return to former form. It was not broke do not work to fix a NO. 1 winning. She never should have stopped seeing her original swing coach. Leadbetter he had one that I know of good deal Nick Faldo. Just my opinion for what it is worth. good video shawn.

@@golflessons Best book I ever did see from Leadbetter was when he was granted the original Photos that were the basis for the drawings for Hogan's 5 steps Book. I never got it the book. So I did not read all his analysis of the Photos or Hogan concepts. But the Photos were astounding in the Book. I was originally taught by a LPGA teaching pro. who had learned/worked at Golf Digest schools, and worked with Jim Flick, Bob Toski, Chuck Cook in the 80's. Their Whole premise/ or main ideal was that the Arms swing, and everything else will follow it. And that contrasted with the let the INSIDE make the outside, swing. Since now we have all the data/measuring devices it seems the better teachers are the ones who know it is a balance of Both. But in the case of Lydia KO she should have left well enough alone, she came in like a Tornado, and everyone still loves her, but some outside interference took her to mediocraty. What she did was her OLD SELF in the last round of the ANA/Dinah/Kraft in March, I think she if memory serves was coming from 9 shots back of the Leader who did win, Patty T. I believe Lydia came in 2nd, if Patty had not shot lights out the Whole tournament, KO would have Won. KO had a whole well balanced game coming in, she still probably possess's the best balance Short game. She does use that Aim point putting, which I still totally do not understand, something to do with reading the Green with your FEET. I used to use and would still do plumb bobbing, and actual reading what I see. I still have Dave Pelz's Putting Bible book. If it is not Broke don't mess with it, if broken then maybe look into it. KO knew how to play and score at Golf/course management. Of course the mental and travel part of Pro golf probably gets to alot of players, the other sad one is Yani Tseng, she hit the ball like a GUY, in her Hey day, her's is a mental issue most likely. And I never owned the Golfing Machine book, I have read or seen bits of it, it is way technical, some of it has most likely been substantuated/and debunked by the measuring devices today. Of course Canada is all excited I am sure of Brook Henderson, hopefully she stays the same. I live in the Golf capital of the world, Orlando Florida, area. Still hard to believe Golf Channel moved out of here, Arnie Palmer helped create that, from what I remember.

Timely video! I just came in from a very interesting session on the range. Since I switched to the stronger grip and it made my contact more consistent, I’ve started having fairly predictable distances for my irons, with wedges similarly spaced shorter. While there were still mis-hits, the ones with good contact ranged 95 to 135 for 9i to 5i. Today, though, the good contacts were at least 2 clubs longer. I was mystified until I noticed my hips were turning better on the longer shots. Once I noticed, I learned I can’t always create that, but apparently being conscious of it somehow positively reinforced whatever caused it, because it started happening more frequently. My only goal today was to get the squat on the lead leg to start the downswing. I don’t know if that somehow triggered the better hip turn or not. Anyway, I think I’ll try to reinforce this with the mat and whiffle balls. Then I need to get it to happen with hybrids and driver!! Thanks again for these videos!

@@golflessons Question for you. Approximately how much forward lean on the shaft at contact is reasonable? Your comment in yesterday’s video about swaying hips back causing the swing to shift back struck a chord. I reviewed a bunch of slo-mo videos and some of the fore-aft variation is probably arising that way. So thanks for that. However, in looking at lag, it appears I might be extending earlier than desired. Ergo, return to this one. However, your stop action isn’t at a resolution to tell what lag persists through contact. Normal video displayed using the scrubbing on the phone isn’t either, but the slo-mo using scrubbing does a good enough job to see my shaft at contact. I have not tried to analyze these videos on the computer; maybe there’s an app for that? Anyway, what kinds of angles are desired would be a valuable input for me.

The feel is that we deploy our hands in front of the ball (for irons and woods, slightly behind due to ball position for driver) and then allow the pocket knife / jackknife to deploy and slash through the ball in the direction of our intermediate point?

Shawn, great video, loved the explanation of the "throwing" or "axe" mechanics. But I have a question...every time I try this, by the time I move up to hitting an actual ball, I cannot get the face closed and I end up hitting way to the right and/or slicing. In essence, in 'relaxing' the wrists more to get that axe-whip motion, I don't bow the wrist anymore and open the club face. But then if I try it with bowing the wrist a little, then I get the wrist tension back and lose the 'whipping' motion. Any suggestions?

come on now; all you need to do is see the lag of my daughter who hits it 280 or past Mark Crossfield and Mu who carries it 340 after 3 short years playing golf (complete beginner in 2018) Mark actually said it was a mirage? Yikes!!!

Made it to about 3 minutes and the irons were still being tossed. Don't really want to do that with my clubs.

Just get used clubs from the second hand sports store or a flea market or garage sale; you are missing out big time here!😎

So, LAG is when your hands stop ( I don't mean stop literally) slightly in front of the ball - but If they stop behind the ball its called a FLIP and if you drag your hands with unabated speed past the ball its called a BUNT?

Sounds like you are a bit confused and new to the channel; this is advanced stuff from 15 years now on youtube. See “through the ball vs at the ball shawn clement” and all my “throwing the club shawn clement” videos and try for yourself. We are amazing at these tasks!

You talk about "lag" but don't define or show it and how it relates to the contact position. Also, way too much extraneous examples, i.e. bat, ax, jai jali, fishing pole.

Lag is club head behind hands through the hitting zone. He’s using other objects to demonstrate how lag is generated when we stay focused on the target not the ball. If ball is target you throw lag away behind the ball. If you go through to the target lag maintains and g forces release the club head through the ball
