My "friend" was 22, and he dumped my roommate for a 15yro girl. Apparently he had been in contact with her sense she was 12yrso. I dropped him, reported him to the police, the parents of the child, and to Department of Human Services. When nothing happened I reported the parents to child protective services for neglect.

Honestly, when I hear youtubers say “anyone I’ve offended” or “I’m sorry if I’ve offended you” it feels disingenuous. That feels way more genuine
@cicelyamelia3 жыл бұрын

@Jjealous3 жыл бұрын
No in my opinion its better to say “im sorry uf my actions have affected you in any way” or something similar, bc most of the times its not just offending but uts somethings that can affect someone’s wellbeing or life, not just “ooh i didnt like what u said” but “you said something that makes me relive trauma” or like “you did something that will scar me for the rest of my life and you hurt me” u know?
@connyaaaa55553 жыл бұрын
@@Jjealous well, if someone is making an apology, that’s because they’ve hurt/offended someone, probably a lot of people, it’s certainly that they’ve offended someone so the “if” shouldn’t be there. It’s not a question of if they offended someone, they did. They should own up to it
@kunilsen25193 жыл бұрын
I generally feel the opposite. "I'm sorry I offended you" feels to me more like "I'm sorry you are offended" and that feels like you are not sorry. More like, "too bad you feel like that" kinda sorry. I like it more when they say "if I’ve offended you” or “anyone I’ve offended” as it feels like (to me) that your actions were not meant to offend. So "if you were offended then that was not meant on purpose" kinda sorry. But this is just me, and I also think it depends greatly on the context and how and why they are apologizing. Both can sound awful or alright depending I think.

So true. Like everybody else in this comment thread I experienced this myself. From the age of 12 to 17 I had older men constantly aggressively hitting on me & speaking to me in a sexual way, or worse getting handsy with me. Like not just online where they could hide behind a screen but even in person they felt comfortable doing & saying these disgusting things. The age ranges of these men was from 19 (when I was around 15) all the way up to a couple of them literally being old enough to be my grandfather (when I was 12! then again several times when I was 14/15)! So disgusting & disturbing. We really need to try harder to inform teens about this & how to handle these types of situations cause unfortunately it happens far too often. We need to teach teens that it's ok to speak up about these things as well & not feel shame about it so that maybe we can get some legal consequences for these creeps so maybe it will at the very least happen less (Preferably not at all but you know how creeps are). Really wish this was not something that was normalized.

I mean, at the time, we had little reason to believe those allegations. Because those ones were false. I have never even liked him or his content but I also thought he deserved being defended against false allegations, even though I still thought he wasn’t a good person. Anyone deserves that. But like iNabber said, it doesn’t matter that those ones were fake now, because there are some very real things that are very serious.

There no reason for you to feel bad though? You were in the right to do that back then as there was not enough reason or evidence to be against him back then. Take it from someone who used to believe in him and side with him as well. Sometimes you just don't know, but don't feel bad. Well.. as long as you didn't aggressively attack others who were on the other side back then. Even if you are sure about something, never get too aggressive when defending your standpoint. He's not obsessed with acocuntability. He is just using the language of the culture that values accountability, being woke/socially progressive, and focused on social justice. Not to criticize that movement at all (I support it), but it's easy to commandeer the language of that social justice/#metoo movement and act like you care without actually changing. That's what he's doing.

I think all of this points to the wider problem of very young people being so easily exposed to sexualised content in general. It really does open the door to these kinds of issues, because it’s almost accepted as “normal” by younger people because they are so used to seeing people being objectified. This is in no way excusing the actions of people behaving this way, it’s completely gross and unacceptable, it’s just it’s making it easier for them to get away with it.
