That was good fun! As always, I love your enthusiasm Brian. 20 years in Japan is surely worth celebrating. A vinyl celebration - perfection! I’m sitting here having a glass of wine and racking my brain, thinking about how I might contribute. Lots of new music for me to seek out here; Sheena & the Rocket; YMO; Kina Shoukichi; just to name a few. Wabi Sabi! I love that. Way to rock out!!! I’m have no doubt Neil would approve 😊 An abridged response has already begun to percolate … Take care

Curtis! Also appreciate hearing from you! Thanks for taking the time and offering your attention for such a long video. If nothing else, hope it has got some gears turning for you that will eventually lead to deeper musical appreciation, which I know we are al chasing. If you put anything together (obviously no pressure at all), let me know and I'll try to figure out a way to spotlight them. I think maybe I can share them on my community tab, or maybe make a instagram story about them. Greetings from Tokyo!

I actually caught up with another guy visiting Japan the other who ALSO scored it, who I photographed for Tokyo Record Style, which will be a post coming up soon. I fully intended to reply to your namedrop in video but I you beat me to a comment before I could reply. I tried actually to promote your channel on a recent livestream I intended to be on but I only made it as far as the peanut comments. Fully plan to though. You got a great vibe and a great stage presence and I think you gotta a great road ahead on KZbin. I need the algo to feed me more of your content. Will catch it when I can! Hello and thank you, Bruno, so very much for contributing to the Japan Vinyl Tag! I'm so chuffed. I'm also happy to be connected to a Breton! I have only visited France once, and only to the south, but I have often dreamed of traveling all around, eating and drinking and enjoying the language and life, maybe like you wish to visit Japan. I did study French for a couple years MANY years ago, and I guess very little stuck because I can hardly remember even the most basic of expressions. At any rate, I will leave a comment on your Japan Vinyl Tag very soon. I have some catching up to to and hopefully I can manage to watch some videos this weekend! I will be in touch. Dom (@seekingathread) sent me here and I'm glad! Enjoyed this in its entirety! Had me thinking: I should launch my channel with that tag! Maybe one day. Congrats on your 20-yr anniversary! I've been lucky to visit Japan twice and can't deny the outstanding vinyl scene and the fact that I've met some of the nicest, kindest people ever there. My wife and I went to a tiny island called Tokashiki off the main island of Okinawa which definitely had that special vibe. Magical. Anyhow I digress... two entries I readily align with: (1) In A Silent Way is a perfect zen record; (2) Pixies also blew me away in my teens. I still remember the exact moment I first heard Surfer Rosa 🤍... on my Walkman of course.

The Mule Variations tour was truly, truly *amazing.* I caught one of the Chicago shows, but sadly I didn't see that smoke-ring thing! I did notice Tom aiming one of the light beams from his disco helmet right into the eyes of keyboard player Mike Melvoin during a keyboard solo, though - & that will surely be a treasured little tiny memory right up until my brain stops its sparking 🧠🫡❤️♾️

Wonderful! Chicago must have been amazing! And of course I love the SONG Chicago too! It was more of a dust ring than a smoke ring and we were fortunate to be sitting right up in front hence maybe being able to see it, or maybe it was just in my imagination. I just scoured the web looking for a photo of it and came up empty handed, but I think I've seen it before. I wonder if we'll get another Tom album or tour. I sure hope so! Thanks for the comment.

@Seeking a thread! That was indeed a marathon, haha! Thanks so much if you made it to the end. Seriously, that's a marathon of watching too! The idea of doing it was swirling around the back my head for a while but it came together rather quickly so I could get it out the door more or less in time to commemorate my 20 years here. If it wasn't so time-sensitive, and had I thought that anybody would actually consider also doing it, I would have been a little more thoughtful with the questions. There are a couple of overlapping questions and some that are a bit convoluted but, there are at least 7 or so good ones. By all means, feel free to join, and don't feel obliged to do the whole thing. Do a 1/2 or less! Or all if you're ambitious. I've been seeing people re-interpreting the questions, which I really like, so it one doesn't work, just spin it til it does. Any yes, GIANT Tom Waits fan here. We definitely share that in common. I'm not sure if we're ever gonna get any more new Tom, but I sure hope we do. Always relish the chance to share my passion and appreciation for him with other like-minded fans. Happy to chat more about him anytime. And, yes also to The Rainbow Goblins! Crazy cool and fun album! Best for now! Happy to be connected and to stay in touch!

@tokyorecordstyle
@tokyorecordstyle 4 ай бұрын
Hey Andy, thanks for the comment and the words of encouragement. For the record, I am aware of how bad and out of tune I'm singing and playing, but hey, it's sorta part of of what I'm talking about! Yeah, who knows if it will get any traction, it seems like there is a sudden a big interest in Japanese music all around me, coming from overseas and from the generation (or two ...or three) following mine. I think Japanese music, and really ANY music from Asia in general, was something people easily scoffed at as being lesser that or people were simply were confused by it 20, 30, 40 years ago. I admit I probably thought it was just novel at one point, but a lot of that music, particularly the jazz and fusion and boogie and AOR stuff sounds so contemporary and sophisticated now, which it always was - it's almost as if there world is on catching up to it now, and by young people in particular who tastes are hopefully broader than mine or my generations. So I was thinking a Japan Vinyl Tag might not appeal to the old stalwarts of the VC necessarily, but hopefully a couple, but it might particularly appeal to the next gen. Thanks again for the comment and encouraging words. I tool will be excited to see what, if anything, people come up with some of the, admittedly, rather hokey subjects. Fingers crossed it will be fun for a few!

Way to shred on guitar and harmonica! Couldn't agree more on Doolittle. We talked about its life-altering properties at Garageville, as I recall. I read that Kim Deal found the band based on a want ad looking for musicians interested in joining a group that wanted to be a cross between Husker Du and Peter Paul And Mary. (That description is somehow perfect and woefully inadequate at the same time..) Bryce, your encouragement is always such a validation to me. I always really appreciate it and take it to heart. HERE HERE about the Pixies! And that is such a cool little anecdote about Kim Deal and answering an ad about a band that is a cross between Husker Du and Peter Paul And Mary. You are so right that is woefully inadequate but also perfectly on the nose. I watched a Nivana documentary yesterday that I have probably seen 3 or 4 times before, on KZbin, and it was really more about THAT moment in time, and about what the band meant to everybody more than it was actually ABOUT that band, and though the Pixies were never mentioned in the doc, you can hear Frank Black so clearly in Kurt's scream, and his infatuation with the Beatles parallels, that Peter, Paul, and Mary comment. Man, THATS the music of my life, the stuff that has all the sugary melody juxtaposed on all the broken glass. Just LOVE IT! So looking forward to our next hang. Hi Brian! Have listened to J.A.CAESAR and Geinoh Yamashirogumi? They are my two favorite Japanese artists!

Hey Brian! I just posted my response to the Japan Vinyl Tag, finally! I've been wanting to respond to this since you announced it but it's taken me this long to get to it. Better late than never. I'm sure there's a better Japanese saying than that. I loved your vinyl tag video and I watched all of it when you first launched it and then watched it again in pieces over the last month while putting together my response. Congratulations on the 20 year anniversary of your calling Japan home. Japan is top on my list on places I hope to visit. Hopefully someday I can convince my wife to go. I hope you like my response and hope it's not too long for you. 楽しんでください、そして幸運を祈ります!(Enjoy and best wishes!) - Bill

BILL! BRILLIANT! Thanks for joining the fun! For whatever reason, this has become a creeper of a tag, meaning that it was slow to be picked up, slow to get going, but still chugging along. Super humbled to have another KZbinr involved! Thanks, Vinylverse! Appreciate you getting on board and for all the encouraging words and for watching my vid (I know it was only and painful for some) multiple times! You might have heard I am cateloguing all the entries and adding them to a database so as to be able to listen to them. Let me watch your video and I'll explain a little more. We'll be in touch more for sure. By all means, please come to Japan and look me up when you do! Happy and thankful to be connected. Best, Bill, from Tokyo - Brian

@@tokyorecordstyle it’s pretty awesome what you’re doing, Brian. What a challenge cataloging and listening to all of those albums. I’d say a little crazy but awesome! 😂

Yeah, I need to score one. So many of the represses we score here come from Europe, I assume thats the case for even the US. I'm not too picky about presses but for the Beastie, I kinda want good ol' country of origin records. I'm not like for any other band for whatever reason. By the way, I was thinking about it, I think the Beasties are one of the only bands in my discography that I have followed COMPLETELY from the beginning to now, and got every record along the way. I mentioned that Hello Nasty was the last record I got from the Beasties when it came out, but when I when to put it back, I saw that I also have 5 Burroughs, Mix Up, and Hot Sauce, so I guess I've pretty much collected it all as it came. That's a little sense of pride. I was gutted with MCA died because I totally took that band for granted. The have been part of the soundtrack of my whole life and they were just always there, that I never thought they wouldn't be. My son is really into hiphop and we saw several bands at Summer Sonic this weekend that all borrowed SOOOO MUCH from the Beasties, so I hope my son comes to those records at some point. Got a favorite? I think mine still has to be Pauls Boutique.

Rob! I watched it a couple of days ago and it was AWESOME! THANK YOU SO MUCH and can't wait to tear into all the tunes. As you might have heard, I'm logging all the entires and promoting the channels as best I can, and I got a little system going and just haven't made gotten to yours yet, though I have already watched it once. I'm gonna watch it again slowly, can pause and catalogue each entry, then comment, on your post, then go listen to them all, then make a communtiy post about it and a reel, and finally send you a thank you note as I've done with all so far. Just takes a little time. If you happened to type up a list, send it here: tokyo.record.style/. If not, no worries, I'll pull them it out, but if you have them it just goes ever-so slightly faster. Anyway, Thank you again, Rob, REALLY REALLY chuffed! Hang tight and I'm getting to it can can't wait!

@@tokyorecordstyle I just finished watching your video! Yeah, I don't mind long videos when it's filled with good stories and experiences... like yours! I never been to Japan, but there are over 2 million Japanese (and descendants) living in Brazil, and a big chunk here in São Paulo state where I'm from, so whenever I want to do a quick trip to Japan, so to speak, I go to "Liberdade" (Liberty) neighborhood where you can have a glance of their amazing culture without leaving the country :)

WOW!!! Firstly, thank you for that nice comment. And I did not know well about this Liberdade neighborhood that you speak of. I know that there are many Brazilians living in Japan, so many in some cases that apparently in some neighborhood of Chiba (or Tochigi maybe?), MOST of the residents are actually Brazilians! That's crazy! Actually, I am good acquaintances with the previous Brazilian Ambassador to Japan, André Corrêa do Lago and the Cultural attaché and worked with them on several projects, and have even visited the Brazilian Embassy (and watched a movie in their downstairs movie theatre!) Like you, who loves Japan culture but who has never been to Japan, I'm very interested in Brazilian culture, cuisine and music, and have many Brazilian records! Welcome to the channel, and I hope to stay connected!

@@tokyorecordstyle sure thing! Nice connections there man :) Looking forward to watch more of your videos. Ps: I'm still debating if I should respond to your vinyl tag or not. I didn't do any tags this year, but I'll sleep on that for now to see if I can come with a short 'clever' response lol My videos tend to be lengthy and my English doesn't help me either...

Cheers Gustavo! Thank you for the encouraging words. I honored and flattered you've even considered making a Japan Vinyl Tag. By all means, please be encouraged to make one in inspiration hits! And of course as I've said, feel free to just do half of it, or a quarter of it, or just pick 2-3 to answer and leave the rest! Don't worry about English! The music can speak for itself!
