Story I got was the vans were originally used on US Navy bases in Japan, eventually the vans were sold off into the local markets.

I understand from the American perspective "these are just vans" but compared to the Insipid- inane European (plastic, Diesel) Vans, It's depressing how deliberately uninteresting and neutered you can make something in the name of practicality and efficiency, and yet it still only be marginally more utilitarian in all its tedium American 70s-90s vans, I think are unarguably the best vans, at this point ever to be made. Electronically simple, therefore repairable long-lasting, and mechanically durable. Yet interesting and practically badass with its large capacity and displacement, While Great looking, Not just a plastic veneer of quality lol

I had a 78 Dodge van, 440 CID, bought NEW. Current is 98 B2500, 360, 46RE trans. FUN ALWAYS, since my first B-Van (360), bought new in '73. Mopar or NoVan! (M-Bs and Fiats can't get out of their own way!)

I know it's not a Dodge but I was considering doing a Dajiban setup on my Ford Econoline detailing van. Probably not a good idea with a 150 gallons of water and another 400lbs of tools, supplies and such

They use Dodge vans because they can buy them cheap from the American military. They use these vans as troop transports, etc and the Japanese Moro racers would buy them to haul their bikes and gear around in. That why DAJIBAN!

'for some reason' explained: B series Dodge vans. lower cg, excellent suspension geometry and unitized construction. & the roller cam magnum V8's are tough, (they often go 300k miles..maybe not in this environ :p) torque makin' mills and torque out of the corners is a + in race winning. in america.. this could catch on..if only 75% of the nation didn't have an unwarranted, seething hatred for all things Mopar. their loss.

Only problem is that most of them are probably soup cans thanks to the absurd Cash For Clunkers debacle. There was SO MUCH vintage tin sent to the crusher because of it. 😕

super practical, plus you can go and take a nap on lunch breaks. I keep thinking about it but any work with the motor would be a bitch. That goes for just about any van. Kinda wish i went after a 79 Dreamliner van, half van, half pickup. But didnt have the money as a pizza boy.

For some reasons Dodge van? I have driven many Van's working in fleet maintenance the Fords were absolute mules and could take the most abuse but the Dodges had the best handling steering turn in and also driving position. It was oblivious driving them back to back. Sorry no one likes to here anything positive about a Chrysler product. In the states the only time Ford and Chevy guys find common ground is when there pissing on poor old Dodge.

@kristoffermangila Жыл бұрын
They say these are former US Navy vans from Yokosuka and other US Navy installations in Japan that were sold surplus to the local market. A few were from US servicemen who owned such vans and sold them prior to transferring to the next duty station.

Don't want to know what is going on in the back of those vans.
@kristoffermangila Жыл бұрын
On these vans, as you've probably seen on the videos, its pretty bare, since the owners use them as motorcycle transporters. The space out back is occupied by the bike and the tools, leaving space for 3-4 people, driver included.
